New Artist Spotlight | Colleen Orender Releases “Blame It On The Mistletoe”

With the holiday season now upon us, artists releasing Christmas music is also in full swing.  One of the stand-out original Christmas songs brought to our attention is “Blame it on the Mistletoe”, written and produced by Michael Davey, recorded by Colleen Orender.

Maintaining a classic feel and throw-back approach, “Blame it on the Mistletoe” has the potential to rank high with any of the traditional holiday hits.  Colleen’s vocal performance brilliantly delivers, giving the listener tasty hooks, warm tone and a timeless sound.

With this release being a prelude to Orender’s forthcoming studio recording “Don’t Give a Damn About Love”, set for a Nov. 30th drop date, we are told to “expect the unexpected”.   Collaborations on the project includes an A-list group of songwriting partners. 2018 Latin Grammy winner Nikki Williams (Laura Pausini, Demi Lovato, Lauren Alaina), Greg Becker (Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts) and Michael Davey (Martina McBride, Angie Aparo) all prove the diversity these recordings will present.

Focus on the 615 is very excited to follow Colleen Orender’s musical path, one that seems to be paving a way for the many multi-genre songwriters and artists Music City embraces.

Rock Bottom Brewery In Downtown Nashville Debuts An All-New Nashville Favorites Menu

I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend the VIP preview party debuting Rock Bottom Brewery’s all-new Nashville Favorites menu.

The party took place on their beautiful rooftop overlooking lower Broadway in downtown Nashville.  The outside was decked out with a modern-style firepit, white & red couches/chairs, heat lamps, and they unvailed a colorful, new mural on a prominent wall.  They featured a beautifully-decorated area inside with the bar that included flowers and boot-shaped floral arrangements scattered about, and out by the red carpet at the entry of the building.  There was a nice sampling of many of the new menu items and their full cocktail menu, plus a special acoustic performance by rising country artist, Chris Lane.

Unfortunately, the weather did not quite cooperate since it was such a cold, windy and overcast day.  Despite this, Chris Lane braved the cold outside along with most of the guests at the party for a 30-minute performance.  Even in the cold, he gave a great performance to an appreciative, attentive crowd huddled together near the heat lamps to try to keep warm.

Luckily, the rooftop is half enclosed, so the cold did not dampen the spirits of guests, and allowed the party to continue on for invited patrons to enjoy delicious southern-inspired food and creative cocktails.

My personal favorites were the ribs with a BBQ sauce infused with a Nashville favorite, Jack Daniels Whiskey, and a little spice to add just the right amount of heat to the tender, delicious ribs.  The shrimp & grits were also especially tasty and flavorful.  Always a favorite of mine and many others.  The pomegranate cosmopolitan was so pretty, I wasn’t sure I wanted to drink it.  However, it tasted just as good as it looked.  Sweet & fruity in a tall-stemmed, martini glass with just the right amount of alcohol; not too much and not too little.  It was a highly-flavorful concoction that I can’t wait to enjoy again next time I am in downtown Nashville.  What can I say about the two desserts I tasted? Banana pudding and bourbon pecan pie.  Both tasty and decadent.  Completely satisfied my sweet tooth!

Also on the new menu, there is delicious, new beer that has been brewed for the update, along with perfectly-fried, fresh hush puppies, bacon-wrapped green beans, chicken bites with waffles, and so much more.  You will want to try out their all-new menu yourself.

Rock Bottom Brewery is located on the corner of Broadway and 2nd Ave., offering great views of downtown Nashville and Riverfront Park.  Open seven days a week.

If looking for a fun place book your company’s holiday party this year or somewhere to enjoy NYE coming up that is slightly away from the crowds of the Nashville NYE celebration at Bicentennial Park, but still gives you a great view of the fireworks and among Nashville’s historical district where everyone seems to want to be, it’s a great option and I highly-recommend it.

New Restaurant, The Green Pheasant, Opens In Downtown Nashville

Partners Patrick Burke and co-chefs Jess Benefield and Trey Burnette of Seed Hospitality Group (Two Ten Jack Nashville and Chattanooga) are pleased to announce the opening of The Green Pheasant, located in the SoBro district of downtown Nashville at 215 1st Avenue South, across the street from Ascend Amphitheater; www.thegreenpheasant.com. The Green Pheasant, named after Japan’s national bird, which symbolizes power, strength and abundance, explores the interrelationships between Tennessee and Japan’s cultural traditions and cuisine.

At The Green Pheasant, chefs Benefield and Burnette maintain the same approachability as with Two Ten Jack’s neighborhood izakaya-style pub food, but with a greater focus on more refined dishes and techniques, while combining local and Southern flavors with traditional Asian ingredients sourced from Japan, including fresh seaweeds, artisanal soys, and decades old miso.

“Our goal is to honor Japanese culinary traditions while also celebrating regional foodways and ingredients,” says Benefield. “The Green Pheasant’s menu reflects our interpretation of seasonal Japanese cuisine, utilizing fish and ingredients sourced directly from Japan as well as continuing to source meats and produce from our local farmers, including The Nashville Food & Growing Together Projects, No. 9 Farms, and Marmilu Farms, to name a few.”

Menu highlights include: Okonomiyaki, a Japanese pancake made with potato, smoked ham, bacon and scallops; A5 Miyazaki, grilled rib-eye cap from Japan that is available by the ounce; American Mishima Reserve Wagyu, from Mishima Ranch, available in six-ounce steaks; and Whole TN Trout, wok-fried in ginger oil, sansho, and served with steamed buns and tobanjan slaw. The Green Pheasant also offers an inventive selection of noodles, including Mazemen, with spicy crab, garlic butter and chile threads; and Curry Udon, with Japanese curry and whipped baked potato.

Rounding out The Green Pheasant’s team is Kristin Beringson as chef de cuisine; Michael Seale as general manager; andTwo Ten Jack alum, Kynsey Hunter, beverage director and certified kikisake-shi (sake sommelier). Under Hunter’s direction, the bar program highlights sake’s diversity, breadth and depth, featuring cocktails on tap, including Ichi-san, Ni-san, and San-san; Chu Highs, or shochu highballs that are popular in Japan; and an extensive list of sake and shochu. A curated list of wine and beers, both local and imported, is also available.

The 184-seat restaurant combines the work of several local artisans and craftsmen, partnerships that were a priority for Seed Hospitality to fully convey the fun, convivial vibe of downtown Nashville. Artisans and craftsman include: Powell Design Studio, architecture, interior design and construction; furniture by Matt Alexander with Holler Design and Chris Barber with Barber Woodworking; sculptural installation and art and patterns by New Hat; architectural metalwork by Ferrin IronWorks; architectural concrete by Set in Stone; upholstery by King’s Interiors; interior landscaping by FLWR Shop; carpentry by Wudwerx; and lighting by Adam Gatchel with Southern Lights Electric.

“It was important to us that we work with local makers and artisans on The Green Pheasant to help reflect our concept as we continue to explore the interrelationship between Tennessee and Japan’s culture and cuisine,” says Burke. “The design elements compliment The Green Pheasant’s mission, while reclaiming this unique corner of downtown with a locally owned, chef-driven restaurant. We think that is important right now in Nashville.”

The unique art installation, created by New Hat, features a composition of origami inspired by The Green Pheasant’s namesake bird, with elements of rubbed charcoal, suspended by a delicate framework of brass poles above the bar. Aligning with The Green Pheasant’s roots in Japanese cuisine and the cultural crossovers that define international style, the compositions convey sensations of movement, transformation and individuality. These qualities speak to a mission The Green Pheasant and New Hat share: to make work that transcends the sum of its parts, exists to be shared with others, and inspires reflection and joy.

The Green Pheasant is located at 215 1st Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37201 (located in the 222 2nd Avenue South building) in downtown Nashville, directly across from the main entrance to Ascend Amphitheater. Self-parking and valet is available in the 222 building garage. The Green Pheasant is open Monday-Thursday, 5pm-10pm and Friday-Saturday 5pm-11pm. Sunday supper and lunch service will follow this fall. Reservations can be made at www.thegreenpheasant.com or by calling 615.205.5400.

Produced by Dann Huff (Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett, Brett Young), and anchored by lead single “Buy My Own Drinks,” which Music Row Magazine praises as a “runaway hit,” the project has been eagerly-anticipated by critics and fans alike.

With their debut EP effort, critics have been propelled to declare, “it’s a rarity an act impresses so fully with their first rodeo, but Wayne, Cooke and Mulholland have already proven they defy the norm. They’re here to conquer,” (B-Sides and Badlands), while others note the ascending trio “is about to blow up…” (Whiskey Riff). Listen to the EP here.
“Buy My Own Drinks” was co-written by Runaway June’s Naomi Cooke, Hannah Mulholland and Jennifer Wayne along with Hillary Lindsey and Josh Kear. In addition to the ACM nominated group’s latest single, the EP also contains their previous Top 40 hit ”Wild West” and a fan favorite from their live show, Dwight Yoakam’s “Fast As You.”
“This is a group of songs that really expresses us as a band,” said Cooke. “We have been working on this project for two years and so many life changes have happened to us as people, and now more than ever we have songs that tell the stories of those moments.”
“The EP is a really fun and diverse look into our sound as a band. It incorporates the fun of the live show, but also shows some soft moments that fans can relate to,” added Mulholland.
Jennifer Wayne also noted of production, “Dann Huff has changed our lives. He’s completely zoned in our sound. He’s so collaborative and he’s such a joy to work with.”

Dustin Lynch Invited To Become Newest Member Of The Grand Ole Opry

Realizing a lifelong dream, country star DUSTIN LYNCH has been invited to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Opry member Trace Adkins made the special surprise invitation Tuesday night (8/21) during Lynch’s performance, telling him, “Being a member of the Grand Ole Opry is at the top of my list of achievements in my career and always will be. We want people to be members of the Grand Ole Opry that will have a respect for this institution that it deserves, that it has earned for 92 years.” Adkins added, “We think that Dustin Lynch is going to carry on in that proud tradition, and we’re glad to have you.”

“I can’t even talk cause I’m gonna start crying,” a stunned Lynch told the crowd. “I’ve got my family here tonight and a lot of my team members – a lot of guys and girls that are responsible for getting me on this stage for the very first time, getting my music played at Country radio and all over the world now, and I wanna say we would not be here if it wasn’t for you. Thank you guys so much. A lot of things have happened over the past six years, but it started with that last song we just played. ‘Cowboys and Angels’ was the very first song I got to play on the Grand Ole Opry – March 2, 2012 – I’ll never forget that day. I wanna say Mom and Dad, thank you so much. I’m glad you came tonight. We have so much to celebrate. I’m gonna attempt to sing a song with a frog in my throat and tears in my eyes.”

Equally surprised were Lynch’s parents – who have attended every one of his Opry performances to date – who were on hand to share in the emotional moment, cheering on his career milestone from their seats in front of the stage.

A friend to the Opry over the years, Lynch has stepped into the six-foot circle on the Opry’s center stage numerous times as he’s released three Top 5 albums and five consecutive #1 singles, earning PLATINUM level certifications. He is set to be formally inducted as an Opry member on Sept. 18.

This indelible honor comes as the latest pinnacle moment for Lynch, who has proven himself as one of the genre’s brightest stars. One of the most-played artists of 2017, he topped the charts for four consecutive weeks with his PLATINUM-certified smash “Small Town Boy,” penned by Kyle Fishman, Ben Hayslip, and ACM Songwriter of the Year Award winner Rhett Akins. His new single “Good Girl” – which Lynch surprise-released at this year’s iHeartCountry Festival and performed at CMA Fest – is climbing the charts.

Lynch performed at the ACM Honors ceremony at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium this past week. He’s also set to hit the road with co-headliner Cole Swindell and special guest Lauren Alaina for the REASON TO DRINK…ANOTHER TOUR beginning Oct. 4 in Tuscaloosa, AL.
