Old Dominion Play Bucket List Historic Ryman Auditorium Charity Show For “An Evening With Friends”

Tuesday night, acclaimed country band Old Dominion sold out and electrified the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville for their special headline show: “An Evening With Friends.” The gig raised a total of $40K for charity, with half of the proceeds benefitting the Opry Trust Fund  and the other half benefitting the Ryan Seacrest Foundation.

Our lives have changed in ways we could never have imagined – so we felt like this show at the Ryman was a great way to start giving back. During this unforgettable evening, the Platinum-selling quintet and reigning Academy of Country Music Vocal Group of the Year welcomed a bevy of special guests to the stage for collaborations, including Kenny Chesney, Kelsea Ballerini, Sam Hunt, and Michael Ray for show-stopping renditions of fan favorites. Kenny surprised the band on stage and had them play “Save It For A Rainy Day,” which was penned by Matthew Ramsey and Brad Tursi and hit #1 for 3 consecutive weeks. Kelsea joined the band to duet their #1 single “Written In The Sand” and her single “I Hate Love Songs,” which was co-written by band member Trevor Rosen . Michael Ray then performed his latest energetic single “The One That Got Away,” which was penned by Matthew and Trevor. Lastly, Sam Hunt performed 2 songs with the band that included the #1 single “Make You Miss Me, as well as “Ex To See,” both of which were co-written with Sam by Matthew Ramsey. Old Dominion also performed 19 additional songs during their 120 minute set covering all their #1 hit singles, fan favorites, and debuted two brand new song unreleased songs including the youthful, energetic “Make It Sweet and the sentimental and spiritual “Smooth Sailing.”

“An Evening With Friends” represents a milestone for the group who are steeped in songwriting and live to play. A place like Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium is hallowed ground. The band recently released their Spotify Singles — “Hotel Key” and a cover of Halsey’s “Bad At Love.” They also performed “Hotel Key” and “Written In The Sand” as part of the star-studded lineup for ABC’s “CMA Fest” television special. The group’s marathon tour cycle in support of its chart-topping second full-length album, Happy Endings, is well underway as they headline venues coast-to-coast. See the full itinerary below.

Kenny Chesney Hits Millionth Ticket At Gillette Stadium In Boston

With an opening video welcome from the New England Patriots organization that included Robert and Jonathan Kraft, head coach Bill Belichick, quarterback Tom Brady, tight end Rob Gronkowski, wide receiver Cordarelle Patterson, offensive linemen Marcus Cannon and David Andrews, plus Patriots Broadcast Analyst Scott Zolak and members of the Massachusetts State Police Mounted United, the greater Boston area was all in for Kenny Chesney’s 18th and 19th shows at Gillette Stadium. With two night attendance of 121,714 – as Chesney’s team worked to make more tickets available this morning – the 8-time Entertainer of the Year not only broke his own attendance record, but he surpassed the million ticket mark by over 90,000.

“This is so much bigger than all of us,” Chesney told Saturday night’s crowd. “It’s like destiny.”

Certainly the man Variety called “Country music’s only true long-term stadium act” and The Wall Street Journal deemed “The New England Patriots’ Other Star” hit the stage both nights intent on rocking the packed stadium with everything he had. By the time guitarist Kenny Greenberg swooped in to a vamp on Bachman Turner Overdrive’s “Taking Care of Business” in the show opening “Beer In Mexico,” the East Tennessee songwriter/superstar was covered in sweat from racing from one side of the 40 foot strut to the other. Throwing himself at the music, the audience cheered – often for 40, 60, 90 seconds between songs – and sang the songs back with a fervor that pushed the energy even higher.

“This entire summer has been a new threshold in terms of how No Shoes Nation has come at these songs, these shows, these moments,” reflected the man who just notched his 30th No. 1 Billboard Country single. “Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, something else would happen… And then we saw a whole new response, whether it was the cheers, the way the audiences sang or the looks on people’s faces. It was incredible.”

Invoking Robert Kraft’s philosophy that sports, music and traditions bring people together, the only country artist on Pollstar’s Mid-Year Top 10 Tours thanked the assembled audience for allowing him to become one of their traditions. Sharing the love of sports and music, Chesney closed both nights with “The Boys of Fall,” his ode to the honor code of high school football players everywhere.

He also played “(She Comes from) Boston” both nights. Saturday, he brought millionth ticket purchaser Karen Duggan on stage, explaining that she represented each and every one of them before performing the song about the island dwelling expat to the capacity crowd.

“The spirit of the people of Boston have been part of this journey since the first year we started playing stadiums. They love life, they work hard, they believe in music – and they understand how much I see their lives in my own life. I’d’ve never believed when I was young that I would play, let alone sell out the stadium where the Patriots play. But when I hear those voices as I hit that stage, I’m sure glad unthinkable dreams come true.”

Over a dozen years, Chesney rocked 1,090,326 people across 19 shows in Boston. Chesney also had another platinum summer. With just under 1.3 million total attendance, he racked up 1,298,088 tickets sold across 19 stadiums and 41 total shows on his Trip Around the Sun Tour.

Warner Music Group and Warner Music Nashville are honored to welcome eight-time ACM winner and CMA Entertainer of the Year Kenny Chesney to the Warner Music family. As part of WMN, the songwriter/superstar’s music will be released on the Blue Chair Records/Warner Bros. Records label.

Since leaving East Tennessee with a handful of songs and a dream bigger than he understood, Kenny Chesney has developed into the man The Wall Street Journal deemed “The King of the Road” and the Los Angeles Times proclaimed “The People’s Superstar.” With over 30 million albums sold, 30 No. 1s, and countless sold-out stadium tours that sell in excess of a million tickets every time he takes to the road, the 2018 Country Album of the Year GRAMMY nominee is on the verge of yet another creative renaissance.

“It is a big deal to change labels,” said Chesney. “But when you hear Max, Espo, and Cris Lacy talk about music, about what it means and does, when you hear that passion, you can’t help but get fired up. To me, music is only complete when it gets to the fans and becomes part of their lives. The people at Warner understand my commitment to that idea, and they’re just as committed to those ideals as I am.”

“Kenny Chesney embodies the relentless pursuit of artistic freedom and expression,” said WMN Chairman & CEO John Esposito. “An unapologetic free spirit, he has built a career on perseverance, drive, innovation, and most especially, great songs. Everything he does is inspired. It is with deep respect and honor that we welcome Kenny to Warner Music Nashville. We couldn’t be more excited to work with him and his team.”

“Kenny’s not only a country music icon, but an American superstar, who’s still hungry to write, record, and perform amazing music that moves millions of people,” said Warner Music Group CEO, Recorded Music Max Lousada. “The fact that he has chosen Warner Music as his new label home is a huge testament to the culture created by Espo and his team, who have made our Nashville operation a magnet for both emerging talent and established artists. I join Espo in welcoming Kenny into the Warner family, and we’re all looking forward to amplifying his success and taking his music to fans across the globe.”

His commitment to his fans – known as the No Shoes Nation – has seen Chesney succeed as the only Country artist on Billboard’s Top 10 Touring Acts for the past 25 Years, as well as consistently playing NFL stadiums across the U.S. That commitment to giving his fans songs that hold their lives, and concerts where he consistently breaks records, reflects the passion that fuels the songwriter/superstar.

LIVE IN NO SHOES NATION Is Part of Stadium Trip Around The Sun

Having spent the better part of the year culling, mixing and mastering Live in No Shoes Nation, Kenny Chesney created what he believes to be the ultimate love letter to the people who’ve come out year after year, summer after summer. Believing that his songs, especially the hits, only truly find their ultimate form after being shared with the world, Live in No Shoes Nation serves to capture the passion, the intensity and the spirit of No Shoes Nation at large.

“The more I listened, the more I realized: they have no idea how good they sound – or how much they give these songs new shapes,” Chesney says. “The last thing I thought I’d be doing for my next record was a live album, but the way No Shoes Nation sounds, it seemed like – once I really started digging in – the only thing to do.”

Further heightening that connection between the live experience and the people who make the noise, Chesney wanted to find a way to close the circle. Anyone buying a ticket to this year’s Trip Around the Sun 2018 stadium shows can receive a physical copy of Live in No Shoes Nation as part of each ticket purchased.

“It just seems like the right thing to do,” Chesney offers. “For all the people who’ve been part of making these tours so successful every single summer, let’s make it as easy as possible to put the music in their hands. We’re all moving so fast, with too many places we have to be. This way, if you want to hear something like ‘One Step Up’ from the Stone Pony, or something that goes all the way back to 2007 with Dave Matthews and I having an end-of-tour moment singing ‘Space Cowboy’ and ‘Three Little Birds,’ or the night in Boston when we sang ‘Happy on the Hey Now’ for a friend from the islands, it’s all here!”

“And as much as downloading is so convenient, there is nothing like putting a CD in your car – and just driving and sinking into the music. Maybe I’m the only person who still does that, but I can’t tell you how many nights I’ve spent during the making of this record doing just that. It does sound different, so I figured: make it part of how we get into Trip Around the Sun.”

From the beach at Perdido Key, on the Florida/Alabama line to Green Bay, Wisconsin’s Lambeau Field…from Tampa, Kansas City, or Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre to Foxboro, Massachusetts, Live in No Shoes Nation measures the fun, the friends, the soul and the songs that have come to define coming-of-age in the flyover this century as they’ve been lived, sung and cheered to since the only Country Artist on Billboard’s Top 10 Touring Acts of the Last 25 Years found himself a true stadium headliner.

“This is about music, about getting pumped up for next summer’s stadium shows,” Chesney says of the CD that fans can receive with every ticket. “Music is meant to be lived and loved and turned up. I wanna think we got that right here, and that everyone coming to the shows thinks they sound as good on these tracks as I do.”

About Brandon Lay:

EMI Records Nashville’s Brandon Lay grew up in Jackson, Tenn. – in between the blues, soul and rock-and-roll of Memphis and the country music capital of the world in Nashville. Influences from both legendary music cities can be found throughout Brandon’s work including his recently released debut single, “Speakers, Bleachers and Preachers.” Co-written by Brandon with Luke Laird and Shane McAnally, “Speakers, Bleachers and Preachers” is autobiographical and walks listeners through the three biggest influences in his life – music, sports and faith.  The tune sparked an immediate reaction with listeners and quickly impacted the Spotify U.S. Viral chart cresting as high as No. 7.

Brandon, who moved to Nashville in 2010, signed a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell in 2013 and has been building a devoted following ever since. Brandon co-produced and co-wrote every song on his debut album expected out in 2018.

After writing, recording and releasing “Noise” in a matter of 11 days – and delaying the follow-up to his acclaimed The Big Revival until October 28 to accommodate “Setting the World On Fire,” featuring pop superstar P!NK – the 8-time Entertainer of the Year went on Good Morning America and surprised hosts Ginger Zee and Jesse Palmer with a brand new title for his forthcoming album: Cosmic Hallelujah.
