A Special Night At The Judds Farewell Concert Taping

CMT and Sandbox Productions in conjunction with country music legend Wynonna Judd will headline a history-making concert event with “The Judds: Love Is Alive – The Final Concert” on Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Murphy Center at Middle Tennessee State University.
The event recreates “The Judds 1991 Farewell Tour” for a special televised event airing in March 2023 on CMT.
Wynonna’s current tourmates Ashley McBryde, Brandi Carlile, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town and Martina McBride are also slated to perform.

I was one of the fortunate ones to be invited to attend The Judds Farewell Concert taping produced by CMT and Sandbox Entertainment.  The concert took place Thursday, November 3rd in Murphy Center at MTSU in Murfreesboro, located just 45 minutes outside of Nashville.

This was the original location of the farewell concert back in 1991, so it was a re-creation of that night made for CMT.  For me, it was extra special since I was a student at MTSU back then.  It was a night filled with nostalgia.

Wynonna Judd was joined by several special guests throughout the two hour concert on this beautiful fall night, including: Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde, Kelsea Ballerini,  Martina McBride, and Brandi Carlile.

Understandably, this was an emotional night for Wynonna after the tragic loss of her mother, Naomi Judd, only a few months ago before they were to set out on the final tour together.  Thankfully, she has all these incredibly-talented friends in the industry to help her sing the iconic duos’ many well-known hit songs.

The audience held up lit up phones, sang along, danced, and many tears were shed throughout the evening without any prompting like you normally get at tv tapings.  You could feel such incredible, uplifting energy throughout the building from the moment Wynonna and her band stepped on stage through to the very end.  It was truly a magical night.

My very favorite part of the concert took place at the very end when Wynonna was joined on stage by all her special guests and a choir joined into the audience to sing, “Love Can Build A Bridge”.  It gave me chillbumps as I fought back tears.  It was a very moving and powerful moment in a night full of special moments .

This special will be airing exclusively on CMT very soon.  I will be sure to spread the word when the special is to air.  You don’t want to miss it!

MTSU kicks off 50th anniversary milestone with Wynonna’s homecoming return for largest event at Murphy Center in over 30 years.

Tickets on-sale at 2:00PM CT here, with a portion of proceeds benefiting NAMI Tennessee.

NASHVILLE, TN – (October 26, 2022) – Today, CMT and Sandbox Productions announced country music legend Wynonna Judd will headline a history-making concert event with “THE JUDDS: LOVE IS ALIVE – THE FINAL CONCERT” on Thursday, November 3rd at the Murphy Center at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), recreating The Judds 1991 Farewell Tour for a special televised event airing in March 2023 on CMT. Wynonna’s current tourmates Ashley McBryde, Brandi Carlile, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town and Martina McBride are also slated to join, sharing the same bill for the first time ever; additional special guests to be announced. Tickets are on-sale today at 2:00PM CT here, with a portion of proceeds benefiting NAMI Tennessee.

The Judds homecoming to MTSU will mark the largest concert to take place at the iconic Murphy Center since Wynonna and her mother, Naomi Judd, had their final show together on The Judds Farewell Tour  over three decades ago. The made-for-television event also serves as the kick off to the venue’s year-long 50th anniversary celebration.

The news of “THE JUDDS: LOVE IS ALIVE – THE FINAL CONCERT” was revealed earlier today by Wynonna herself during an intimate press luncheon at Fox & Locke restaurant in Leipers Fork, Tennessee, alongside CMT and Sandbox Productions event producers and representatives from MTSU.

“Stepping onstage at the Murphy Center for the first time since Dec. 4th, 1991 will be so surreal for me. It was an emotional night over 30 years ago and will be an emotional night, for different reasons, now,” said Wynonna. “I can’t wait to lean into the nostalgia with the artists who have made this tour so special, and recreate one of the most iconic nights in Judd “Herstory!””

“It’s serendipitous magic on so many levels to be able to capture Wynonna’s return to the Murphy Center, almost exactly 31 years to the date. And it’s especially meaningful as an MTSU alum to produce such a landmark event, working hand in hand with the university’s faculty and staff to have their students actively participate in the production in its entirety,” said Margaret Comeaux, Executive Producer & SVP of Production, Music & Events, CMT. “We are also extremely excited to collaborate once again with our amazing partners at Sandbox to present a true Judds event spectacular that has been decades in the making, and continue to tell the next chapter in Wynonna’s story.”

“I remember when I was 15 years old, watching The Judds 1991 Farewell Concert on repeat when it first came out on Pay-Per-View. This is such an incredible, full circle moment to reproduce that same iconic special with Wy, and having her joined by all the powerhouse women she has brought with her on tour,” said Sandbox Productions’ Jason Owen, Executive Producer. “I’m so excited for everyone to watch – and for the incredible legacy of The Judds to live on forever.”

“What is most compelling about the Judds’ music is that it captures the love between two women. The Murphy Center event will allow us all to celebrate that love. After all, it was love that built a bridge between the Judds and their audience,” added Beverly Keel, Dean of the College of Media and Entertainment, MTSU. “It is love that connects the family of country music females and strengthens them as they work to make their voices heard.”

As announced earlier this week, The Judds: The Final Tour will continue for a second run into 2023, following its initial 11 date area tour with Ashley McBryde, Brandi Carlile, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town, Martina McBride all set to return for select dates, with more special guests to be announced. For more information, visit TheJudds.com.

“THE JUDDS: LOVE IS ALIVE – THE FINAL CONCERT” is a co-production from CMT and Sandbox Productions; Margaret Comeaux (CMT), Jason Owen (Sandbox) and Patrizia DiMaria (Ladypants Productions) are Executive Producers. The Executives in Charge of Production are Jackie Barba and Heather D. Graffagnino. Leslie Fram is Executive in Charge of Talent. Shanna Strassberg and Donna Duncan are Talent Producers.

About The Judds:

Wynonna and Naomi Judd brought a fresh acoustic sound to country music, with unmistakable harmonies surrounding Wynonna’s powerful lead vocals and Naomi’s unshakable creative drive. The Judds are often celebrated for a rarely-interrupted stretch of 14 No. 1 hits when every single of theirs released by RCA landed in the Billboard Top 10; and a career that defined what it means to be individualists in the music business. The Judds dominated touring in the 80s with 20 Top 10 hits, have sold more than 20 million albums and blazed a trail for duos and women who have followed them. Together, The Judds have 16 Gold, Platinum, and multi-Platinum albums and longform videos, led by 2x Platinum albums Why Not Me and The Judds Greatest Hits. Their stripped-back style revived the popularity of acoustic sounds in country music and opened up the genre for more traditional approaches.

About The Murphy Center:

The Nov. 3 Judds concert will become the centerpiece of Middle Tennessee State University’s yearlong celebration of the 50th anniversary of its iconic Murphy Center, which opened on Dec. 11, 1972. The “Glass House” is home to MTSU men’s and women’s basketball as well as university and high school graduation ceremonies, concerts and state high school basketball championships. For more than two decades, it was the Nashville area’s premier entertainment venue, hosting The Judds’ nationally televised farewell concert in 1991, as well as five Elvis Presley performances and concerts by superstars such as Elton John, The Who, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, the Beach Boys, Johnny Cash and the Eagles. MTSU announced the completion of a $6 million renovation project for the facility earlier this month, which officials hope will better position the facility to attract future concerts.

About MTSU:

NBC News called MTSU a “Grammy-winner factory” in 2019 in the wake of alumni, students’ and staffers’ multiple nominations and wins from the industry’s top honor MTSU alumni, former or current students, and faculty from across the university have been a part of more than 134 Grammy Award nominations in the last two decades. The number of MTSU-connected Grammy winners since 2001 currently stands at 15 with a total of 37 Grammys, including nine repeat recipients, in categories from classical to pop to rock to country to gospel. MTSU’s Department of Recording Industry — and the College of Media and Entertainment that houses it — marked in 2022 the seventh year on Billboard‘s latest international list of top music business schools, once again earning acclaim for the program’s diversity, depth and longevity.

CMT to honor Mickey Guyton as “Breakout Artist of the Year” at 2021 CMT ARTISTS OF THE YEAR

NASHVILLE – September 23, 2021 – CMT today announced Mickey Guyton will receive the “Breakout Artist of the Year” award and will perform at the 2021 “CMT Artists of the Year” event, airing LIVE from Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Wednesday, October 13 at 9p/8c on CMT. This marks only the fourth time in event history this honor will be bestowed, with the GRAMMY-nominated Guyton joining the ranks of previous honorees Chris Stapleton (2015), Kelsea Ballerini (2016) and Ashley McBryde (2019).

“We are thrilled to honor the immensely talented Mickey Guyton as this year’s ‘Breakout Artist of the Year.’ After relentlessly chasing her dreams in country music for years, her perseverance, tenacity and spirit have culminated in this spectacular moment of recognition where she’s finally receiving the credit she deserves,” shared Leslie Fram, Senior Vice President, Music & Talent, CMT. “Congratulations Mickey! We look forward to celebrating with you, and all of our honorees on October 13th.”

Mickey Guyton made history as the first Black female solo artist to earn a GRAMMY nomination in a country category (Best Country Solo Performance) for “Black Like Me” which she performed as part of the awards ceremony. Mickey also co-hosted the 56th Academy of Country Music Awards on CBS along with Keith Urban in April. She is currently nominated for CMA New Artist of the Year and her debut album, Remember Her Name (out tomorrow, Sept. 24), features Guyton’s “unapologetic voice country music needs right now” (Paste) with songs including “What Are You Going To Tell Her?,”  hailed by Variety as “country music’s song of the year,” and “Black Like Me,” one of the Top 10 all-genre songs of 2020 by NPR, Billboard and Associated Press.

First named a CMT Next Women of Country in 2014, Guyton has a long-standing history with CMT. This past year, Guyton shined on the 2021 “CMT Music Awards” stage, pulling double duty with two unforgettable performances: “Cross Country” alongside rising star BRELAND and “Friendship Train” with the iconic Gladys Knight, plus also presented Linda Martell with this year’s CMT Equal Play Award. Last month, Guyton additionally delivered a captivating performance to celebrate the legacy of country music titan Charley Pride for “CMT GIANTS: Charley Pride.”

This year’s 2021 “CMT Artists of the Year” will return to its original format after adapting last year to honor some of the most vital and inspirational Americans on the frontlines of the pandemic. This year, Guyton will take the stage alongside previously announced 2021 honorees Chris Stapleton, Gabby Barrett, Kane Brown, Kelsea Ballerini and Luke Combs and feature never-before-seen performances and collaborations and congratulatory moments. Musical pairings, special guests and additional performers and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.

CMT And Ty Herndon Announce Return Of Concert For Love & Acceptance On June 30th

(NASHVILLE, TN – May 17, 2021) Country music artist and philanthropist Ty Herndon, in partnership with CMT, today announced Wednesday, June 30, as the date for the 2021 Concert for Love and Acceptance. Produced by Herndon’s charitable foundation, The Foundation for Love & Acceptance, the event will return as a star-studded online event, co-hosted by Herndon and CMT’s Cody Alan, who has hosted the event alongside Herndon since 2017. GLAAD, MusiCares, and Nashville’s Oasis Center are the beneficiaries of event proceeds.
The show will take place at 8:00 p.m. ET and will be live-streamed exclusively on CMT’s Facebook and YouTube channels, and at F4LA.org/concert.
The event will include appearances and performances by Brothers Osborne, Kristin Chenoweth, Terri Clark, Brooke Eden, Harper Grae, Chris Housman, LOCASH, Kathy Mattea, Rissi Palmer, Gretchen Peters, Tenille Townes, Walker County, and Chase Wright.
Additional talent will be announced in the coming weeks.
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with the dynamic team at CMT once again to bring the Concert for Love & Acceptance to a broad audience as musicians, actors, comedians, and more demonstrate their support for LGBTQ youth and artists in the country music community and beyond,” said Herndon. “This event comes from my heart, and I hope it continues to resonate with people all around the world as we spread a message of acceptance for all people and work toward a world where only love remains.”
For the fourth consecutive year, CMT returns as Presenting Partner of the event, with Cody Alan serving as co-host, a role he’s held for the past five years. A well-known and respected veteran personality, producer, and programmer in the broadcast industry, Alan is a past recipient of the ACM National On-Air Personality of the Year award, and host of CMT Hot 20 Countdown, CMT’s flagship music TV show, delivered to over 90 million homes weekly, as well as host and executive producer of CMT After MidNite and CMT Radio Live, heard on 220+ stations, with nearly 8 million monthly listeners.
“It’s a privilege to return as co-host of the annual Concert For Love & Acceptance, whose mission is as important today as when it launched six years ago. With dangerous and discriminatory legislation pending in our home state of Tennessee, the vocal support of the country music community is immeasurable in changing hearts and minds. I’m eager to again partner with Ty Herndon, CMT, GLAAD, and our new beneficiaries at MusiCares and Nashville’s Oasis Center to highlight the critical work to move LGBTQ+ rights forward,” said Alan.
GLAAD and Herndon created the first Concert for Love and Acceptance in 2015 shortly after Herndon became the first major male country artist to come out as gay. Event appearances and performances have included Vince Gill, Tanya Tucker, Reba McEntire, Brett Young, Jake Owen, Lee Brice, Tyler Rich, Michael Ray, Rita Wilson, Matt Bomer, Chris Daughtry, Terri Clark, Chris Carmack, Gavin DeGraw, Crystal Gayle, Billy Gilman, Cassadee Pope, Calum Scott, Mickey Guyton, Levi Hummon, Cam, Cale Dodds, Runaway June, Chely Wright, Billy Dean, Hunter Hayes, Brandon Stansell, Meghan Lindsey, Thompson Square, WWE Superstars, Meghan McCain, and more.
Herndon serves as executive producer of the 2021 Concert for Love & Acceptance, alongside returning executive producer Zeke Stokes, who has been in that role since the Concert began in 2015. Stokes is President of ZS STRATEGIES and a former Vice President of GLAAD.
Stokes announced Music City PrEP Clinic as the exclusive Presenting Partner of the 2021 Concert For Love and Acceptance. The organization serves to help Middle Tennesseans live an HIV-free life through PrEP medication, education, anti-stigma campaigns, and support.

“We’re pleased to welcome Music City PrEP Clinic as a first-time partner on this event and looking forward to shining a light on the critical work they do to keep the LGBTQ community healthy and supported in Nashville and beyond,” said Stokes.
