Following a lengthy struggle to regain his health, country music legend Mel Tillis passed away early this morning at the Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida. Tillis battled intestinal issues since early 2016 and never fully recovered. The suspected cause of death is respiratory failure. Tillis was 85.

The Country Music Hall of Famer leaves behind six children (Pam Tillis, Connie Tillis, Cindy Shorey, Sonny Tillis, Carrie April Tillis, and Hannah Puryear), six grandchildren, a great grandson, a sister (Linda Crosby) and brother (Richard Tillis), the mother of five of his children (Doris Tillis), his longtime partner (Kathy DeMonaco), and many lifelong friends and fans around the world.

The Tillis family asks for your prayers and will soon release more information regarding funeral services in Florida and Nashville.

Lonnie Melvin Tillis was born in Tampa, Florida on August 8, 1932. Throughout his 60+ year career, the Grand Ole Opry member recorded more than 60 albums, had 35 Top Ten singles, six #1 hits (“I Ain’t Never,” “Coca-Cola Cowboy,” “Southern Rains,” “Good Woman Blues,” “Heart Healer,” and “I Believe In You”), was named the Country Music Association’s coveted Entertainer of the Year, and was elected a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. He wrote over 1,000 songs, 600 of which have been recorded by major artists including Kenny Rogers (“Ruby, Don’t You Take Your Love To Town”), George Strait (“Thoughts Of A Fool”), and Ricky Skaggs (“Honey, Open That Door”). Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) named Tillis Songwriter of the Decade for two decades. In February of 2012 President Obama awarded Tillis the National Medal of Arts.

John Oates Announces New Album

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member John Oates has teamed with an amazing group of accomplished and rising stars in the Americana music world to bring his new album, Arkansas, to life. Scheduled for release on February 2, the project is his first for Thirty Tigers.  Arkansas is available for advance order through e-retailers and a Pledge Music campaign including autographed vinyl, limited edition exclusives, hats, shirts, and more.

The project originally began as a tribute to Oates’ idol, Mississippi John Hurt. During a series of Nashville recording sessions, it evolved organically to become a unique collection drawing from a wide range of Oates’ musical influences. Asked about the style and sound of Arkansas, John says, “It’s like Dixieland, dipped in bluegrass, and salted with Delta blues.”

The album was recorded at Addiction Studios in Nashville and produced by Oates and David Kalmusky who also engineered and mixed it. The sonic glue that cements the project is “The Good Road Band”. The impressive lineup consists of Sam Bush on mandolin, Russ Pahl on pedal steel, Guthrie Trapp on electric guitar, Steve Mackey on bass, Nathaniel Smith on cello, and Josh Day on drums and percussion.

With this incredible band, Oates shines a light on music from America’s past long before the birth of rock ‘n’ roll. Fresh interpretations include the Emmett Miller classic “Anytime” from 1924 as well as the Jimmie Rodgers tune, “Miss the Mississippi and You,” from 1932. Reimagined traditional Delta, country blues and ragtime selections salute legendary artists like Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Blake.

Two new original songs by Oates blend seamlessly with the traditional roots material, as well as John’s deep catalog of Hall and Oates hits. Taken together, Oates’ music becomes a retrospective of American popular song.

ABOUT JOHN OATES

John Oates is one half of the best-selling duo of all time, Hall & Oates, as well as an accomplished solo artist. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Oates embarked on a long-awaited solo career in 1999. He has recorded six solo albums and the 2015 DVD docu-concert Another Good Road. His seventh project, Arkansas, will be released by Thirty Tigers in February..

Influenced by R&B and folk music while growing up near Philadelphia, Oates was honored as a BMI Icon in 2008. In 2016, Hall & Oates received a star on the Hollywood of Fame. In addition to his solo shows, Oates continues to tour with Daryl Hall, playing sold-out concerts around the world. St. Martin’s Press released the hardcover of Oates’ memoir, Change of Seasons, in March 2017; the paperback will be released in 2018. Oates resides in Nashville.

“Tennessee Whiskey – The Dean Dillon Story” Movie Premiere

Photo by Jon-Paul Bruno Pictured left to right: Dean Dillon, George Strait, Robert Earl Keen, Cole Claassen (film director)

A host of industry insiders and country music stars including Brandy Clark, Chris Stapleton, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Lee Ann Womack, Mac Davis, Mo Pitney, Robert Earl Keen, Rory Feek and others, filled the Franklin Theatre Tuesday night for the premiere of “Tennessee Whiskey –  The Dean Dillon Story.”  The new film directed by Cole Claassen is about the life of prolific country music songwriter Dean Dillon.

The evening, hosted by Claassen, BMI and Sony ATV, began with a VIP cocktail reception followed by a short welcome from the man of the hour, Dillon, and director Claassen, who introduced the film. The intricate documentary took viewers on a journey through the life of a songwriting genius, showing his quick witted sense of humor and big heart, but most of all his integrity, both creatively and personally.

Claassen met Dillon while skiing in Colorado and was captivated by his story and asked him if he would be willing to do a film project with him. Even though Dean had been approached many times in the past about a project like this, the songsmith says that something just felt right about the idea this time, and the rest is history.

BMI Icon songwriter Dillon has written more than 26 #1 songs, with the majority of those recorded by his longtime friend and “king of country,” the great George Strait.  Dillon has also written more than 53 Top 10 songs in his storied career thus far.

The new film is available on iTunes HERE.

Thomas Rhett Brings “Marry Me” To Country Radio

Photo courtesy of Valory Music Co.

Current American Music Awards nominee THOMAS RHETT’S newest single “Marry Me” ships to Country radio today, following a hot streak as “Craving You” and “Unforgettable” – the first two singles from his Billboard 200 chart-topper LIFE CHANGES (The Valory Music Co.) – soared to No. 1, each faster than the one before and with RIAA GOLD certification. Known for his “detailed style of songwriting” (Rolling Stone), Thomas Rhett often draws from personal experience when it comes to penning a new song, but for “Marry Me,” he flips the tables alongside hit co-writers Jesse Frasure, Ashley Gorley and Shane McAnally, presenting a non-autobiographical “heartbreaking twist” (Associated Press) to the track.

“‘Marry Me’ is one of my favorite tracks on the record,” said Thomas Rhett. “It’s my big ‘what if’ song. I wrote it from the perspective of if I had never told my wife how I felt about her all those years ago. I probably would have been sitting at her wedding watching her marry someone else. Heartbreaking thought and thankfully I DID tell her how I felt- but it makes for a great song concept that so many people can relate to.”

Thomas Rhett is set to perform LIVE from AT&T Stadium during the nationally televised halftime of the Dallas Cowboys game (3:30P CT/CBS) against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thanksgiving Day, kicking off The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign. Donations to the campaign help provide shelter and meals for the homeless and hungry as well as Christmas toys for millions of children, in addition to numerous other social service programs The Salvation Army provides year-round.

In September, Thomas Rhett released his third album LIFE CHANGES, the biggest, boldest-sounding record of his career, filled with a diverse batch of songs united by the “consistency of their craft” (Variety) as he stretches his sound to new limits. Highlighting his “detailed style of songwriting” (Rolling Stone), the new release debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, marking the first Country release to take the top spot in 2017. This week, he wrapped an electric run in the UK which included capacity venues in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Belfast, marking 31 total sell outs on his in-demand debut headlining HOME TEAM TOUR this year. Thomas Rhett recently announced he’ll roll the momentum in to next year on his LIFE CHANGES TOUR 2018, set to kick off in April. Nashville Ballet premiered The Nutcracker in 1989, but the production was reinvented as Nashville’s Nutcracker in 2008 with a unique concept incorporating Nashville’s vibrant past along with new choreography, sets, costumes and on-stage magic tricks. Now entering its 10th year, Nashville’s Nutcracker will debut additional elements to celebrate the milestone.

“I added a few surprises for this anniversary year as a special way of saying thank you to the community for making us a part of their holiday tradition,” Vasterling said. “For the first time, it’ll snow on the audience during the iconic snow scene. Another big addition is the debut of a new youth cast role, the Dancing Bear Cavalry, which allows us to welcome even more young dancers on stage with us.”

Along with 54 members of Nashville Ballet’s professional dance company and second company, Nashville’s Nutcracker will feature a youth cast of 296 young dancers from School of Nashville Ballet and the community—the largest youth cast in the organization’s history. The local dancers, along with 60 members of the GRAMMY® Award-winning Nashville Symphony performing Tchaikovsky’s celebrated score, will transport audiences into a holiday dreamland filled with clever nods to Music City’s sparkly past, including well-known landmarks and characters.

Beginning at the 1897 Centennial Exposition in Nashville, Clara and her Uncle Drosselmeyer meet a colorful cast of characters from faraway lands. When Uncle Drosselmeyer gifts Clara with a wooden Nutcracker on Christmas Eve, the toy magically transforms to life as a handsome prince and leads her through a remarkable adventure. Clara visits everyone from the Snow Queen to the Sugar Plum Fairy, including the spellbinding characters she met at the Exposition. When Clara finally returns home, the audience is left to decide if it was all just a dream—or not.

Nashville’s Nutcracker is presented by 21c Museum Hotel Nashville, Google Fiber and RJ Young. Tickets start at $35 and can be purchased in person at the TPAC box office in downtown Nashville, by phone at (615) 782-4040 or at NashvilleBallet.com. A complete performance schedule and more information can be found at NashvilleBallet.com/Nashvilles-Nutcracker-2017.

Kelly Clarkson And Brett Eldredge Partner With Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® For Holiday Series

To celebrate the holiday season, exclusive music videos feature new hits and traditional holiday classics

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® kicked off the holiday season today with the release of its “Rocking and Stockings” content series with multiple Grammy Award-winning superstar Kelly Clarkson and platinum-selling singer-songwriter Brett Eldredge. The exclusive performances of new hits and traditional holiday classics premieres today on Cracker Barrel’s YouTube channel with Clarkson’s “Love So Soft,” followed by Eldredge’s “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” on Nov. 17. Fans can follow along as each new video launches weekly through Dec. 12.

“Rocking and Stockings” features four performances of new music from Clarkson’s recently released eighth studio album “Meaning of Life,” including her latest hit single, “Love So Soft,” as well as “Meaning of Life” and “Heat.” It also includes Clarkson’s new holiday track “Christmas Eve.” From his 2016 holiday album “Glow,” Eldredge performs traditional classics, including “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and “First Noel.”

“The holidays are always a special time for us,” said Cracker Barrel Senior Marketing Manager Julie Ulmer. “We created ‘Rocking and Stockings’ to bring together two of music’s most beloved artists for exclusive performances as a joyful way to kick off the season and to help inspire the love and togetherness we hope our guests feel when they dine with us.”

“Christmas is far and away my favorite holiday and recording the music for ‘Glow’ was a dream come true,” said Eldredge. “I’ve been inspired for this record from a very young age, and I dreamt of the day I could record all these classic songs that I’ve loved since I was a little kid. I think we found a little magic on this album and Christmas is all about magic!”

For fans wanting more, Cracker Barrel is offering Eldredge’s fourth studio album “Brett Eldredge” and holiday album “Glow,” as well as Clarkson’s “Meaning of Life” album and children’s books “River Rose and the Magical Lullaby” and “River Rose and the Magical Christmas,” at its locations nationwide and online at shop.crackerbarrel.com.

“Meaning of Life” is the album Kelly Clarkson was destined to make with Atlantic Records; it is a collection of soul-inspired pop that immediately belongs among the legendary label’s classic canon. In addition to her new album, Clarkson also succeeded her New York Times Top 10 bestselling-debut children’s book, “River Rose and the Magical Lullaby” this year with “River Rose and the Magical Christmas,” both available now from HarperCollins.

While Eldredge’s chart-topping album “Brett Eldredge” shows the singer’s diverse and ever-evolving sound, his dream of creating a holiday album became reality with the release of “Glow” last year, which gave the singer a chance to record all the classic songs he loved as a child.

By partnering with artists through its Spotlight Music Program, Cracker Barrel provides guests exclusive access to content they can’t find elsewhere like the “Rocking and Stockings” performance series. Known for its Warehouse Sessions, Cracker Barrel has partnered with artists including Alison Krauss, NEEDTOBREATHE and Reba McEntire for live and taped performances from its Décor Warehouse in Lebanon, Tennessee. In February, Cracker Barrel’s partnership with a cappella group Pentatonix and singer-songwriter legend Dolly Parton won the artists a Grammy Award for “Best Country Duo/Group Performance” for their unique remix of Parton’s 1970s hit “Jolene.” This was the first time the song had won the prestigious award since its release over 40 years ago.
