“The Walking Dead” Actress Emily Kinney Performs At 3rd and Lindsley

Kicking off the 40 city “Same Mistakes” tour, Emily Kinney made Nashville her fourth stop at the weekly Lightning 100 Sunday night live broadcast at 3rd & Lindsley, supporting her latest studio recording, “Oh Jonathan”.

Kinney is no stranger to the entertainment world, having notable success as an actress in film and television, she is best known for her role as Beth Greene in the popular series, “The Walking Dead”.  She will also be appearing in the upcoming Netflix series, “Messiah”.

Aside from acting, Kinney has always been passionate about her songwriting and music career. Her latest album, “Oh Jonathan”, is a well-received collection of songs that signifies a pure and honest sound.  Her simple melodies, combined with innocently sweet vocals and an electro-pop undertone, allows the listener to relate to her youthful, yet mature sound.  Kinney was listed by Paste as the “Best of What’s Next” and Esquire declared her as a “double-threat musician you need to know”.

Joining Kinney on tour is Paul McDonald as opening support.  McDonald is best known for his stint on season 10 of American Idol”.  He has maintained an impressive presence independently since then, creating and recording music that has garnered positive criticism on local and national platforms.

McDonald’s 2018 release, “Modern Hearts”, was produced by Jordan Lehning (Caitlin Rose, Rodney Crowell, Andrew Combs), and features an impressive cast of studio musicians whose resumes include Cage The Elephant, James Bay, Shawn Mendes, Maren Morris, Nikki Lane, Kacey Musgraves, and Buddy Miller, among others. The album was tracked with ace musicians playing in real time with sympathetic band interplay at the vibey Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC (Band Of Horses, Avett Brothers).  Additional recording took place at Sound Emporium Studios (Jason Isbell, Alabama Shakes) in Nashville, TN

McDonald is also currently featured on the summer 2018 Lincoln Parish (Cage The Elephant) release,  “What I Need”.

Get To Know Sony’s William Wild, Performing In Nashville August 28th

William Wild, one of Sony’s newest artists and Knoxville-based musician, will be performing at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville on August 28th alongside SAWYER and Katie Herzig beginning at 8pm.

He gained an impressive following in the wake of his debut EP, which amassed over 12 million streams on Spotify alone.  The music itself is a really unique mix of folk-tinged songwriting and melodies with more modern, pop-leaning production and aesthetic.  His music has also landed a number of high-profile placements in film and TV, including 2017’s major motion picture & Sundance favorite Wind River (his track “Feather” featured as the end credits track) and the Kevin Costner-led series Yellowstone (“Morning”).

Get to know Wild in his own words from our interview with him below and don’t miss him at 3rd & Lindsley this week.  You’re in for a treat!

1) What made you decide to pursue a career in music?

“I think I’m asking myself this question for the first time these days. I never made the decision to pursue music, there really just came a time in the middle of college where it was the only thing I thought about and wanted to do…so I kept doing it!”

2) What and where was your first performance?

“Preservation Pub in Knoxville, TN. I may or may not have worn a fedora.”

3) Describe your music.

“I love the simplicity of folk songs and I spend most of my time trying to figure out how to write and present those ideas in a weird and fresh way.”

4) Musical influences?

“Neil Young was the first artist that actually got the wheels turning for me.  It’s such a specific vibe, yet so plain and upfront.”

5) What do you enjoy doing when not making music or performing in your free time?

“I like to cook and learn about food, exercise outside, and cuddle with my beautiful brown dog, Delta.”

William Wild’s newest single, “Who Do You Love”, is a catchy, uptempo tune reminiscent of classic rock hits of the 70’s.  You can listen to it below.  We think he’s an artist to watch!

LANco

Recently got to attend a show at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville with Warner Music’s Ryan Kinder and Sony’s LANco.

With a standing room only crowd, Ryan Kinder opened the show.  Enjoyed his performance and songs very much.  Great stage presence and very comfortable in front of a crowd.  Definitely hope to hear more of his music in the near future.

Be sure to check out his new single, “Close”, available now on iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon.

Ryan Kinder

From the very instant that headlining act LANco came onstage, they brought such an energy to the room, and the crowd seemed to feel it that singing along with them &  dancing.  Absolutely loved their stage presence and whole performance.   There was such energy and enthusiasm.   Great songs with a few covers thrown in was the perfect blend for the evening.

You can find LANco’s debut EP at iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon now featuring the single, “Greatest Love Story”.

Hope to catch both of these acts very soon again. Cool vibes and great music.  Highly-recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars.

Mandy Barnett @ 3rd and Lindsley

Mandy BarnettAdmittedly, I’ve really never been a huge fan of traditional country music.   However, because of my love for contemporary country music, I’ve learned to appreciate the older, traditional country music.  I think if my dad was still alive, he’d probably be shocked to hear me say that since I begged him on many family roadtrips as a kid to “turn that twangy stuff off”! That’s why I surprise even myself that I have become a fan of Mandy Barnett.

Mandy Barnett is definitely an artist who is steeped in tradition and a country music purist.  She likes to perform the country classics and is best known for her performances in the starring role of musical legend, Patsy Cline, in ‘Always…Patsy Cline‘.

On Saturday, January 7th, I was able to attend her show at 3rd and Lindsley (one of my favorite local places around town to hear live music).  Luckily, I got there almost 2 hours before showtime because the place was already halfway full and parking scarce.  An hour prior to the performance and it was packed to capacity! Wow, she draws a crowd, but I had a feeling that might be the case and why I arrived just after the doors first opened.

Mandy was due to start performing at 730pm.  I figured since this was Nashville, that probably meant she would take the stage around 8pm.  It’s just not uncommon for shows to start late.  I don’t know if it’s to build anticipation or what, but to be honest, it’s kind of annoying when artists make you wait for their performance.  Just par for the course, though, it seems and you just get used to it.  However, I was pleasantly surprised when Mandy took the stage at exactly 730pm! No pretenses, no delay…it was NICE and very much appreciated!

From the moment that Mandy Barnett takes the stage, she commands it and captures the crowd’s attention.  There are no antics, no pretenses, no background singers (she doesn’t need them)…only what seems to be a pure and honest love for performing.  Her set is filled with classics from Patsy Cline to Roy Orbison.  Her vocals are flawless.  She has both control and power.  A true world-class vocalist that is a rare and exceptional talent.  Her delivery of each song leaves you lingering on each note, feeling the emotional depth, and wanting to hear more.Mandy Barnett

My favorite song of the night was “Crazy”–the Patsy Cline classic that Mandy performs flawlessly.  Truly, no one else out there is going to be able to come close to Mandy’s version of this song.  She’s honed her craft and delivery of this song for years on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium while standing in the very same circle that Patsy Cline herself sung so many years ago.

Mandy Barnett is a class act and a rare talent.  More people should know of her and experience her live.

Music City Unsigned: Family Christmas 2 Album Release Show and Christmas Party

Music City UnsignedMusic City Unsigned – the promotion team behind some of Nashville’s best emerging artists – released its second Christmas compilation album entitled Music City Unsigned Family Christmas 2 on Sunday, December 4, and they had a Christmas party to celebrate it! As part of Nashville Sunday Night, Lightning 100’s weekly live broadcast from 3rd and Lindsley, eight unsigned artists were on hand to bring in the holiday season with great live music.

The first half of the night had a writer’s round setup with Marie Hines, Robert Kelly, Emily DeLoach and Jeffrey James all on stage singing two or three acoustic songs each. Hines and Kelly each sang about Christmas memories where they come from with the songs Home and I’m Coming Home respectively. DeLoach gave a soft and sweet performance of If I Can’t Have You, and James serenaded the house with Ain’t No Christmas Blues. All of these songs are of course originals, and can be found on the album.

After a break (and the consumption of several free Christmas cookies), it was time for the full band portion of the show. Gracing the stage this half were Andrew Ripp, The Co, Humming House and The Vespers. Ripp sang his version of the classic Jingle Bells, while The Co slowed it down for a beautiful rendition of Silent Night. The band also performed Keep It Together, a huge crowd pleaser at BMI’s “Jingle Ball” last week.

Rising stars Humming House performed their original Winter Dress, which kicks off the Christmas album. They ended with their new single Cold Chicago, an upbeat, folky number the band has just released a video for. Check it out here! Closing out the night were two brothers and two sisters making up the quartet The Vespers. With a great acoustic bluegrass sound, the band performed “the only Christmas song we know:” Once In A Royal David’s City.

Although two acts – Carolina Story and Jessica Breanne & The Electric Hearts – could not attend the event, their versions of classic Christmas covers can also be found on the album: A more up-tempo acoustic version of Away In A Manger by Carolina Story, and O Holy Night by Jessica Breanne And The Electric Hearts. The album is on sale now at www.musiccityunsigned.com

Although seeing these artists live is a real treat, the CD is equally as enjoyable. If you are tired of the same old Christmas songs and the same old versions, this album is a great way to break free. Not only does it showcase amazing talent, but the proceeds also benefit singers and songwriters who represent Nashville’s best emerging artists. Music City Unsigned is a community of such artists. The organization exists because it has a passion for supporting, promoting and helping artists in any way possible. And so should you!
