Nashville Ballet Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary Of “The Nutcracker”, And It’s Magical!

The 1.2 million dollar production launched 10 years ago in Nashville by the Nashville Ballet is celebrating its 10th anniversary of their interpretation of the beloved Christmas classic.

Nashville Ballet spared no expense as period costume designs of the late 1800’s/early 1900’s were beautiful.  Elaborate set designs set this production apart, as it moves from scene to scene with ease and elegance abounds.

I would put our highly-skilled ballet troupe up against any world class ballet troupe in the world.  They are confident and talented, certainly capable of holding their own with the best out there.

Adding to this spectacular, whimsical production is our own award-winning Nashville Symphony, who proves once again just why they win awards.

Stellar.  This whole production is stellar from top to bottom.  The audience is treated to nearly 2 hours inside the vivid imagination of a young girl’s mind, Clara, guided by a magician who offered her a gift of a nutcracker as he leaves the party after entertaining the children for the evening.  As she drifts to sleep after the holiday party with her family on Christmas Eve, visions of nutcrackers come to life, sugar plum fairies dance, mice in uniforms scurry, the Rat King runs amuck, the Fat Lady sings, the Chinese dragon dances, and so much more.

I don’t want to give too much away, but one of the special elements added in celebration of the 10th anniversary, is they even make it snow inside the entire theatre at one point along with the stage.

Tony And Emmy Award-Winning Entertainer Alan Cumming Brings Acclaimed Cabaret Show To Nashville On May 31

Alan Cumming, the Tony, Olivier and Emmy Award-winning actor, singer, writer, producer and director brings his highly-acclaimed cabaret show, Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs, to the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s James K. Polk Theater on May 31.

Tickets go on sale on Friday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. at TPAC.org, by phone at 615-782-4040, and at the TPAC Box Office, 505 Deaderick St., in downtown Nashville.

Cumming is described by Time magazine as one of the most fun people in show business, by the New York Times as a ‘bawdy, countercultural sprite’ and by the Guardian as ‘European, weird and sexually ambiguous’.

Appearing most recently on Broadway in the 2014 Roundabout Theater Company revival of Cabaret, Cumming premiered his celebrated new show, Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs, in 2015 at New York’s legendary Cafe Carlyle. He has since toured the show throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia and the U.K. In February 2016, he returned with the show to New York for a sold out, solo debut at Carnegie Hall and released a live album of the same name.

Cumming has won more than 30 awards for his humanitarianism and social activism, received both the Great Scot and Icon of Scotland awards from his homeland and was made an OBE (Officer of the British Empire) for his contributions to the arts and LBGT equality by the Queen, whose portrait was taken down when his was unveiled at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in 2014.

Cumming is many things to many people – renaissance man, style icon, social activist, bon viveur – but to himself he is a story-teller and provocateur for hire. He lives in New York CIty and Edinburgh with his husband, illustrator Grant Shaffer, and their dogs, Jerry and Lala.

Legendary Blues Artist Robert Cray Performs One-Night Only At TPAC On Feb. 27

Legendary guitarist-songwriter and Blues Hall of Fame inductee Robert Cray will perform at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s James K. Polk Theater on Feb. 27.

Growing up in the northwest, Cray listened to the gospel of the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, Bobby Bland’s soul, Jimi Hendrix’s rock guitar and the Beatles’ pop sounds. Cray brought these influences into play throughout his career, and has been bridging the lines between blues, soul and R&B for the past four decades.

The glow of a career in music began when Cray was a teen, and in 1974 it burst into flames as the Robert Cray Band came together in Eugene, Oregon. In time, Cray and his band have recorded 20 studio releases – 15 of which have been on the Billboard charts – and played bars, concert halls, festivals and arenas around the world.

The first black artist since Hendrix to rise to such levels of fame in rock music, Cray’s sensational career includes five Grammy Awards and many W.C. Handy blues awards. In 2013, Cray was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.

For his latest project, Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm, Cray traveled to Memphis with his friend, renowned Grammy Award-winning producer Steve Jordan, to make a classic soul album with Hi Rhythm, the band that helped create that sound.

[Video] A Closer Look @ Home Free | Interview & Show Review

Yesterday we sat down with country sensation Home Free just before their show at TPAC in Nashville on Dec. 13th to discuss their new album, favorite Christmas memories, favorite holiday dishes, and much more!

Get to know this incredible country vocal group who first gained national attention and won fans’  hearts as the winners of NBC’s “The Sing Off” in the video below.

The show itself was a great mix of country classics with a new twist, original tunes, and Christmas favorites.  Their delivery was absolutely mesmerizing with solid harmonies all throughout their performance.  It’s pretty incredible what they are capable of doing with just their voices alone.  In-between songs, they light-heartedly interacted with the crowd keeping the concert going at a great pace and effortless flow.

A highlight of the evening was the drum solo segment minus the actual drums featuring the beatboxer of the group, Adam Rupp, that was met with a standing ovation.
