About Garth Brooks

Since his first single, “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old),” debuted at country radio in 1989, Garth Brooks has taken 25 singles to the #1 position on country airplay charts and his albums have spent more weeks at #1 on sales charts than any other artist since the inception of SoundScan. Garth has received six RIAA Diamond Awards, each commemorating 10 million albums sold – and, he is the only solo artist in RIAA history to have accomplished this feat.
In 2001, Garth retired and moved back to Oklahoma to raise his children. In 2008 The President Elect, himself, requested that Garth headline President Obama’s Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial. A crowd of over 300,000 did the “wave” to Garth’s performance of “Shout” while the President sang along. That same year the Governor of California asked Garth to help the State. Garth performed 5 concerts in 2 days with the proceeds from 83,000 tickets sold donated to efforts to prevent fire catastrophes. Portions of the live concerts were shown as a TV special, “Garth Brooks: Live in L.A.” allowing viewers to donate as well.

In December 2010, Garth finished an astonishing 9 sold out concerts in 6 days to raise money for the flood relief efforts in Tennessee. ABC World News Tonight declared Garth The Person of the Week and the Mayor of Nashville announced that this was a record December for downtown Nashville merchants due to the over 145,000 who attended the concerts.

In January, 2012 he was named the best selling artist of the last two decades by Billboard, Nielsen and SoundScan, with a whopping 68.5 million sales. Brooks also sold out his recent appearance at the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede. The sell out 15,000+ seats happened in less than a minute. Garth was recently inducted into the International Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York as well as the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. In October he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Performing for his induction were his heroes George Strait, James Taylor and Bob Seger. On November 29th, 2013, Garth took the night with almost nine million viewers watching his CBS special “Live From Las Vegas.” That very day Garth released his new boxed set, Blame It All On My Roots, which debuted for the 13th time in Garth’s career at #1 on the country charts. The boxed set also rose to the top of the Billboard 200 Chart making it the 9th time Garth has been able to achieve that feat.

Garth recently broke another record when he sold out 5 consecutive dates at Croke Park in Dublin, a feat no other artist had achieved. In fact, over 400,000 tickets were sold. Just after this feat, Garth’s performance of “Friends in Low Places” was the last thing heard on The Tonight Show as Jay Leno ended his 22 year reign as The Tonight Show host.

Album Review: Miranda Lambert | ‘Platinum’

Miranda Lambert
With this brand new 16-track album entitled ‘Platinum’, Miranda Lambert’s 5th album seems both contemplative and playful rather than singing the revenge anthems like “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “Kerosene” that she’s been known for.  This is a Miranda who is having fun with a little self-effacing humor about aging (“Gravity’s a Bitch”), talks about life from the female perspective (“Girls”), the demands of beauty (“Bathroom Sink”), some really traditional and throwback country that I could imagine being played in the honky tonks on Broadway in the 60s (“All That’s Left” featuring the Time Jumpers), rip-roaring, rocking songs (“Somethin’ Bad” with Carrie Underwood), and tender ballads (“Holding On To You”). Overall, Miranda seems to be in a very contemplative place in her life for this album and wanting to share a less serious side of herself taking chances throughout the entire album. Rascal Flatts to Launch New Album REWIND with Massive Media Appearances and Promotions

Country music supergroup Rascal Flatts will release their ninth studio album REWIND on Big Machine Records tomorrow (5/13) with several national TV and radio performances in addition to exclusive promotional events.

The album comes just as the lead single “Rewind” is nearing the top of the Country Radio charts.

As the best-selling Country group of the past decade, Flatts have debuted their last seven studio albums at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart, a rare feat only achieved by four other artists. They’ve sold more than 22.5 million albums, scored 14 No. 1 singles, sold over 28 million digital downloads and earned more than 40 industry accolades, including six consecutive wins as the Country Music Association’s Vocal Group of the Year.

Exploring new sonic territory, REWIND chronicles the joys and complexities of life. Spearheaded by bassist Jay DeMarcus, Flatts co-produced more than half of the album with acclaimed producers Howard Benson and Dann Huff contributing to several of the 13 standard and four deluxe tracks.

“Music has changed so much in the last few years and in order to stay relevant you have to change with it, but we also had to be true to ourselves,” says DeMarcus.  “REWIND is a combination of staying with what people know and love, the familiar Flatts, but also bridging the musical gap into today’s Country music and pushing the envelope a little bit. There is a delicate balance and I think we’ve done a pretty good job. There are songs on the record where people are going to say, ‘That’s vintage Flatts! That’s what I fell in love with’ and a whole new generation of country music listeners are going to go, ‘Wow! I didn’t expect this from them!’”

To promote the release of REWIND, Rascal Flatts will appear on the following:

Joshua Scott Jones Set to Release Debut Solo Album, The Healing, June 3, 2014

Joshua Scott Jones, best known as one half of the country duo Steel Magnolia, will release his debut solo album, The Healing, on Tuesday, June 3, 2014.  The 11-track project is a collection of songs, which candidly retells the singer’s personal struggles and emotional journey over the last couple of years.  Each track exposes the raw emotions he experienced since he started working on his solo material last year. “This has been a long time coming for me,” he said.  “I feel like it’s really a chance for my voice to be heard.”

Jones opened up about his struggles with addiction and how the recording of The Healing was instrumental in his recovery exclusively to PEOPLE Magazine.  Jones felt it was time to publicly tell his story for the first time, explaining, “I feel like at this point in my life I don’t want to be anything but candid. This record certainly reflects my headspace over the last few years and tells the story of what I’ve gone through, especially the title track of the record, ‘The Healing.’  Although I’ve been near the top before in my career, I’m looking forward to experiencing it all again; this time clean, clear and healthy.”

The Healing kicks off with the catchy male anthem, “Honk (If You’re Tonky),” a fun introduction for the tracks that follow including the groove-infused “Tennessee Blue,” the candid throwback “Lover Let Me Show You My Heart,” and the carefree “Whiskey Anthem.”  On many of the tracks found on The Healing, Jones opens up and tells a story that begs to be heard.  One notable track, “Just How A Heart Breaks,” was written on the piano at Cumberland Heights in Nashville, Tennessee where Jones completed his 30-day stay in rehab.  The album closes with the title track that is powerful and raw with honest lyrics that cut straight through your heart (that spark in our eyes/ that God was revealing/ may the hurt that we’re feeling / lead to the healing.)

In anticipation of the release, fans can pre-order The Healing on iTunes and receive instant downloads of “Honk (If You’re Tonky),” “Tennessee House,” and “The Healing.”  Click HERE to pre-order or visit, http://bit.ly/JSJhealing

A free download of the title track, “The Healing,” is available by picking up the current issue of PEOPLE Country on newsstands now.

Country Legends BlackHawk Team With USA Today To Premiere “Brothers of the Southland”; 1st Studio Album In 12 Years Coming July 8

BlackhawkMulti-platinum-selling country group BLACKHAWK has teamed with USA Today for the premiere of their new single “Brothers Of The Southland,” the band’s anthemic tribute to some of Southern music’s most iconic figures, among them Duane Allman and Ronnie Van Zant.

The song can be heard here: http://usat.ly/1mV2VY5.

“Brothers Of The Southland” is also the title track of BlackHawk’s new album, which arrives July 8 via Loud & Proud Records. Co-produced by the band (guitarist/vocalist Henry Paul and keyboardist/vocalist Dave Robbins) and Dale Oliver (Casting Crowns, Steven Curtis Chapman), Brothers Of The Southland is BlackHawk’s first studio release in 12 years.

About the single, Henry Paul says he set out to “pay respects to a collection of people that were large in my life, like the Marshall Tucker Band and Ronnie Van Zant. I talk about Ronnie’s ‘angel’s voice and devil’s smile,’ contrasting the mischievous and highly principled parts of his personality. And while I didn’t know Duane Allman, we certainly grew up revering him and losing him and Barry Oakley from the Allman Brothers was tragic. The song pulls from my childhood, too, with Southern imagery like gospel tents.”

The song “really embodies Henry’s past with these other people,” says Dave Robbins. “We’re not just paying homage to a genre of music or a geographical topic. When Henry sings about the guys from Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers and the Marshall Tucker Band, he’s talking about people he worked with and grew up with.”

Players on the track include Lynyrd Skynyrd’s original guitarist Ed King (the co-writer of “Sweet Home Alabama”); Paul Riddle, the original drumer for the Marshall Tucker Band; and original Outlaws drummer Monte Yoho and current Outlaws guitarist Chris Anderson. Paul and Robbins penned the tune with Survivor’s Jim Peterik, who has some experience with anthems, having co-written “Eye of the Tiger,” one of the best-selling singles of all time.

The album also includes tribute to BlackHawk’s own early-‘90s roots in the form of three unearthed demos that Paul and Robbins recorded with the band’s late co-founder, Van Stephenson. “Heart With A View,” Wide Open Spaces,” and “Baby, The Rain Must Fall.” Robbins predicts that fans are “going to be ecstatic when they hear three little jewels featuring Van singing with us. It’s the three of us playing and singing live, with an acoustic guitar, mandolin and a piano and not a bunch of edits. We’re so excited to be able to include Van’s amazing voice on these songs. It makes the album that much more special.”

Paul, Robbins and Stephenson exploded onto the country music landscape in 1993 with their self-titled album and top 10 hit single “Goodbye Says It All.” Three more hit singles followed (“Every Once In A While,” “I Sure Can Smell The Rain” and “That’s Just About Right”), propelling the album to platinum status. They maintained that pace in the years that followed, scoring a dozen top ten hits, including two number ones, while selling more than seven million records. Tragedy struck in 1999 when Van was diagnosed with melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer. After a long and courageous fight, Van tragically lost his battle in 2001.

Making an artistic and commercial comeback wasn’t the only motivation for firing up the band again. “Van’s dying requests were ‘Keep BlackHawk going, because there’s a lot of great music left in the band… and do what you can do to try and help find a cure for cancer,” says Henry. To that end, he and Dave founded the Van Stephenson Memorial Fund, which raises funds for organizations like the Vanderbilt Women’s Cancer Research Center in Nashville.
.
Over the years, BlackHawk’s songs have touched people young and old and their unique musical character has been a catalyst in bringing non-country music fans to the genre. Though they haven’t recorded until now, BlackHawk has continued to tour and play to packed-house audiences across the country. “Our band was always different than many or most of the other groups in our sort of category,” says Henry. “We had a little bit more of a pop lyrical sensibility that brought a lot of people that weren’t necessarily country music fans into the fold of BlackHawk fans.”

That fresh attitude toward the making of their music is certainly appreciated by the twentysomething-year-old fans (affectionately dubbed “wingnuts”) who make up much of BlackHawk’s improbably youthful audience. But it doesn’t matter which demographic they fit into: BlackHawk fans aren’t sons, uncles, dads, or nephews of the Southland, but in the end, as the title says, brothers.
