St. Jude Backstage At Westwood One’s Radio Row For The ACM Awards

St. Jude patients Londyn and Addi got an experience they won’t soon forget this weekend while in Las Vegas for the ACM Awards. Artists in town for the awards show including Florida Georgia Line, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Lauren Alaina, Luke Bryan, and Reba McEntire stopped by to say hello and spend time with the St. Jude patients. Londyn taught ACM Entertainer of the year, Keith Urban and ACM Male vocalist of the year, Thomas Rhett how to play her favorite game of rock, paper, scissors. She also talked with the stars asking Jake Owen, “If you could have a superpower, what would it be?” Jake told Londyn that he’d want to make everyone feel really good and healthy all of the time. Londyn is 6 years old and fighting Neuroblastoma at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

ACM new Female Vocalist of the year, Ashley McBryde and 5 year old Addi sang a song together from the “The Little Mermaid” and Kix Brooks from Brooks & Dunn shared his cowboy hat with her during their visit.

The country music community has raised more than $800 million for St. Jude since the Country Cares for St. Jude kids program was founded 30 years ago.  Families at St. Jude never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

MULTI-PLATINUM, seven-time GRAMMY® Awards winners Lady Antebellum have signed with Big Machine Label Group’s BMLG Records. A reconnection of sorts for the trio whose success has taken them around the globe, the deal finds Lady A once again crossing paths with BMLG President/CEO Scott Borchetta and BMLGR President Jimmy Harnen.

“We have been truly blessed throughout our career to work with some of the brightest people in music,” said Lady A’s Hillary Scott. “We’ve watched BMLG become the powerhouse they are from the sidelines and couldn’t be more excited to become part of their family. We hope to honor all the people who have been part of our story over the last 10 years – can’t wait to work with some old friends again and are excited for where it takes us all together!”

“Lady Antebellum is the consummate vocal group,” Borchetta says. “Hillary, Charles and Dave have a special chemistry that only the greatest bands of all time have and what you see is what they sing – and it’s the sort of thing no label can create, only magnify. I am delighted that we get to assist them in writing the next chapter in their extraordinary career.”

With nine No. 1 Country hits, two AC chart-toppers, a No. 2 spot on the Hot 100, Lady A hits critical mass with the American public over and over again. Their musically forward, fresh and uplifting sound has sold over 18 million albums. Their songs reflect youth, romance and an ideal of how people hope to live. They have appeared on nearly every TV show imaginable including being the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.“Our extreme belief in Lady A, admiration of their amazing career and the greatness they have yet to achieve, as well as being their biggest fans,” begins Harnen, “makes this the thrill of a lifetime.”

“It is also the grand reuniting of a large musical family,” Harnen continues. “Scott Borchetta and I worked with Linda Davis, Hillary’s mom (as well as her father Lang Scott) when we were both at DreamWorks. Michelle Tigard Kammerer worked closely with Lady A when they signed to CAA, and Matthew Hargis and I helped break the band at radio on their debut album. The long associations, close ties and the group’s always incredible music is literally why we do this.”

With seven GRAMMY® Awards, including the 2011 overall Record and Song of the Year awards for “Need You Now,” six Country Music Association Awards, including back-to-back Single of the Year nods for “I Run To You” and “Need You Now,” seven Academy of Country Music Awards, including three Top Vocal Group and Album of the Year trophies, and four straight American Music Awards for Favorite Country Group, the undeniable quality of the trio’s music defines them.

With 2017’s Heart Break receiving both GRAMMY® and Country Music Association Award nominations, after well-received solo albums from Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott, Lady A is currently writing and recording new music that is poised to be the best music of their careers.

LET FREEDOM SING! 2018 Nashville’s 4th Of July Celebration: Our Wrap-Up

Photo credit: Nathaniel Clayton | @claytoncorners

Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th presented by Dr Pepper featured a stage located on Broadway in the heart of downtown Nashville amongst the historic honky tonks with GRAMMY-winning trio Lady Antebellum headlining, one of the largest fireworks shows in the country, and the Wyler’s Light® Family Fun Zone that started at noon located in the beautiful Music City Walk of Fame Park just a short walking distance from the main stage.

Wyler’s Light booth at the Family Fun Zone during the day.

Nashville’s July 4th event is free and family-friendly, showcasing the music of the GRAMMY-winning Nashville Symphony synchronized to the pyrotechnics show at the conclusion of the day like the cherry on top of a perfect day celebrating our country and freedom.

Also on the lineup for the nighttime concert were newly inducted Grand Ole Opry member Chris Janson, whose hits include “Buy Me a Boat” and “Fix a Drink;” pop artist Lucie Silvas; and R&B producer, musician and artist Shannon Sanders.  New this year, live music started at noon on the the main stage located on Broadway & 5th Avenue in front of the Bridgestone Arena featuring performances by Andrew Combs, Jason Eskridge, Katie Schecter and Kid Politics.

Mayor Briley welcomed the crowd along with the mascots from the Titans and Predators making a special announcement that the Predators new title sponsor is Dr. Pepper.  I believe that would also mean the arena will be known as Dr. Pepper Arena now.

Shannon Sanders, a GRAMMY, Emmy and Dove award-winning producer who’s worked with artists like John Legend, India Arie, Jonny Lang, Robert Randolph and P!nk sang an incredible rendition of the National Anthem followed by a stellar performance of his original music.

As long as I have lived in Nashville, I can’t believe I have never attended our city’s 4th of July celebration in downtown Nashville.  To be honest, I always try to avoid heat and huge crowds whenever I can, opting to watch the fireworks from the comfort of my air-conditioned home on my comfy couch each year.  This year, I thought I would give it a try; after all, my favorite, Lady Antebellum, was headlining the day long concert.

Earlier in the day, we had an opportunity to talk with British pop artist Lucie Silvas, who is now a resident of Music City and married to Brothers Osborne’s John Osborne.

Lucie is an absolute doll with a powerhouse voice, and a great addition to our city.  Thoroughly-enjoyed having a chance to meet and speak with her prior to her performance.  Probably could have talked all day.  She was so excited and honored to be invited to perform this year on the main stage.  Although, she currently only holds a green card, she loves Nashville and our country hoping to become a citizen at some point and have dual citizenship from her home country, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Look for her new album due out August 24th entitled,  “E.G.O.” “It has been a while in the making” according to Silvas due to it’s been 3 years since her last album.  It was a real challenge this time around because of being an independent artist without a record label to finance the album she wanted to make, but due to her being asked last year to go on tour with Chris Stapleton, she was able to finish her new album.

She is a dynamic performer and equally-talented songwriter who has enjoyed great success for several years in Europe and now bringing her music to the U.S. immersing herself into our wonderful creative community here in Nashville.  “I move very quickly, and I try to be as present as possible” stated Silvas.  She moved at a time in her career that “it took her years later to really realize how big the move was” because she had worked for years in the U.K. doing all sorts of things within the music world and had 2 record deals, but when she moved here, it’s like she had to start all over again establishing herself to the American audience after achieving a certain level of success in the U.K. and Europe.

Lucie Silvas is certainly a welcome addition to the already large talent pool of creatives here and carving out her own niche within it each passing day.  Wishing her the best!

Country artist Chris Janson entertained the appreciative crowd with his high energy performance.  He definitely earns the nickname “the human hummingbird” as co-host Storme Warren from SiriusXM’s The Highway likes to call him.  I especially loved his performance of his newest single at country radio, “Drunk Girl”, a poignant song that he wrote with his sons in mind instructing them how to be a man and not a boy in how you treat a woman.  You don’t take advantage of a drunk girl if you are a man.  You “take a drunk girl home, let her sleep all alone”.  Thank you for writing this one, Chris.  It is an important message, especially in light of the #MeToo movement.  Chris has always impressed me, not only because of his music, but because he is one of the most humble men I have ever met.  He really appreciates every accolade he receives and is very deserving.  This newest song, in my opinion will be his biggest hit to date and really define him as an artist for many years to come.  He truly loves what he does and it shows in his live performance.  He literally lights up the stage with his light that shines from within.

Lady Antebellum closed out the show with an hour long performance.  I have to admit, they are one of my favorite groups and have been since they first start.  Together they create magic.  This was their first performance after several months off the road due to Hillary Scott having twins.  Now they are prepared to head back on the road and couldn’t be happier.  They sound just as great as ever and never cease to entertain with they incredible harmonies as they sing hit after hit from their large catalog of hits to chose from.  Aside from their incredible music, these 3 are also some of the most humble and kindest people around.  They are very special and I hope they will be around performing for many years to come.

According to Butch Spyridon, president and CEO, Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp: Event organizers and our security team estimate attendance at Let Freedom Sing! at 250,000 within a half-mile radius of the fireworks site. This would make the 2018 event the second-largest in the event’s history, behind the 284,000 in 2014.

WSMV’s Kelly Sutton co-hosted the day long event from Ascend Amphitheatre with our award-winning Nashville Symphony and spectacular fireworks show at the conclusion of the day.

Nashville’s 4th of July celebration gets bigger & better with each passing year.  The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. truly outdo themselves year after year making Nashville one of the, if not THE, top places in the country to celebrate our great nation on Independence Day.  All for free, and the whole event is spectacular.

Prepare to be hot and for a huge crowd.  Nashville is hot & humid in the summer (it was sunny & a sweltering 98 degrees that day).  As the day progressed the crowd size grew to over 250,000 people all within a 1/2 mile radius of the fireworks display over the Cumberland River, John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Street Bridge, and Ascend Amphitheatre.  But, it is well worth enduring the high temperature, huge crowd, and traffic to enjoy a wonderful day filled with music, family-friendly fun, and an amazing fireworks show.  I hope to do it all again next year!

Currently nominated for GRAMMY “Best Country Album” and “Best Country Duo/Group Performance,” Lady Antebellum recently released the title track from their No. One selling album HEART BREAK (Capitol Records Nashville). The new single from the multi-PLATINUM trio provides “a bedrock for the entire record” (Paste) as “Scott takes satisfaction in feminine independence” (NPR) with “a touch of darkness and a clever play on words” (Rolling Stone). HEART BREAK follows more than 18 million album units, nine No. 1 hits, ACM and CMA “Vocal Group of the Year” trophies three years in a row and countless other honors including seven GRAMMYs, Billboard Music Awards, People’s Choice Awards and Teen Choice Awards. For more information visit www.ladyantebellum.com.

Rucker first attained multi-Platinum status in the music industry as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of GRAMMY award-winning Hootie & the Blowfish. Since re-introducing himself to the world as a country artist, he has released five consecutive chart-topping albums and earned a whole new legion of fans. Rucker’s Platinum-certified debut country album Learn To Live and follow-up album Charleston, SC 1966 produced five No. 1 singles, “Come Back Song,” “This,” “Alright,” “It Won’t Be Like This For Long” and “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It.” In 2012, he achieved a lifelong dream when he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry, and won his third career GRAMMY award in 2014 for his 4x Platinum selling cover of Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Wagon Wheel,” off his True Believers album. Southern Style, his fourth studio country album, includes No. 1 single “Homegrown Honey,” co-written by Rucker, label mate Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum and Nathan Chapman. His latest album on Capitol Nashville, When Was The Last Time features Rucker’s eighth No. 1 on country radio, “If I Told You.” The album’s second single, “For The First Time,” is currently Top 25 and climbing the country charts.

Breakout country artist and People Magazine’s “One to Watch,” Nashville-based Russell Dickerson continues to overtake airwaves and arenas with his Top 5 GOLD single “Yours,” repeatedly called the “biggest love song of the year,” off his debut album by the same name. The “hypnotic” (CMT) crooner kicks off what promises to be his landmark year as Billboard’s No.1_Emerging_Artist, a Spotify RISE artist and CMT’s 18 for 2018. With a deep appreciation for and responsibility to his loyal fan following, Dickerson understands the importance of real connectivity, spending as much time as he can on the road in front of the people who made him the #1 country pre-order for weeks (2017 saw tour billings that included Thomas Rhett’s “Home Team” Tour and Florida Georgia Line’s “Smooth” tour, and finished with his first headlining tour). His EP premiered at No. 1 on Billboard’s Heat Seeker Chart and No. 2 on iTunes Country chart, with “Yours” clocking over 100 million streams to date. The singer and songwriter is the launch artist on Triple Tigers Records, a joint venture with Sony Music. Dickerson’s “Blue Tacoma” was also recently featured in the tenth installment of the “X-Men” film franchise, “Logan”. @russelled | www.russelldickerson.com

Lady A’s “Heart Break” Beats At Country Radio Now

The empowering call of independence found in the title-track of of Lady Antebellum’s CMA “Album of the Year” nominated and No. One selling album HEART BREAK (Capitol Records Nashville), serves as the new single from the multi-PLATINUM trio. Produced by busbee and written by Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott, Jesse Frasure and Nicolle Galyon, “Heart Break” provides “a bedrock for the entire record” (Paste) as “Scott takes satisfaction in feminine independence” (NPR) with “a touch of darkness and a clever play on words,” (Rolling Stone).

“A while ago I had written down the lyrics ‘heart break summer’ with the idea of what its like to detox from relationships for awhile,” said Dave Haywood. “Once we all got in the room together, it really evolved into a these identifiable lyrics that I think anyone can relate too. “

“Navigating the newly single life with simultaneous confidence and loneliness” (Omaha World-Herald), “Heart Break” has been dubbed a key track off the album by fans and critics, as the Washington Post predicts “with a catchy hook and chorus, fans will be singing along to this in no time.” Its “themes of independence” (CMT) caught the attention of O! Magazine’s Gayle King who vouched, “the title-track is hands down my favorite. It’s not about a ruined romance, but rather putting your heart on pause.”

Lady Antebellum Brings The House Down In Nashville

In what was the last stop of the North American leg of the YOU LOOK GOOD world tour, Lady Antebellum brought the house down along with tourmates, Kelsea Ballerini and Brett Young.

Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena held a capacity crowd that was dancing and singing along with all 3 acts all night long.  As Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott put it: “It’s been two years since we took this stage” with Charles Kelley chiming in that they were prepared to “leave it all out on the stage”.  They did just that.  After taking a break to work on some special projects they wanted to do, Lady Antebellum is back and better than ever.

Brett Young opened the night with a great performance to an appreciative crowd.  Midway through, he was presented with a multi-platinum achievement plaque by record label president, Scott Borchetta, along with other members of his team for his debut album and singles.  This is only the start of what is sure to be a successful career from the handsome, tall tunesmith.

Next, Kelsea Ballerini took the stage in an energetic performance entertaining the crowd with hits from her debut album and sprinkling in a few new tunes from her upcoming release.  Vibrant as ever, we look forward to hearing more from the always adorable artist who took the country world by storm right out of the gates and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, thankfully.

Finally, Lady Antebellum closed out the show with singing hits from their first album all the way through their current release.  They were enthusiastic and better than ever sharing how happy they were to be doing what they love for so many years in a heartfelt moment as they slowed it down a bit singing a few songs acoustically giving the band a break.  One of my favorites from that segment was their rendition of Shania Twain’s classic hit,“Still The One”.

“Without getting too nostalgic, this is a dream come true for us to close out this tour in Nashville,” said Charles Kelley. “For over ten years we have walked this journey with everyone here tonight and we couldn’t feel more blessed. Thank you to everyone who helped us make this tour the most unforgettable journey yet.”

My favorite moment of the night is when they brought out the full horn section from Nashville School of Arts to join their 2 incredible horn players that usually tour with Justin Timberlake, but joined them while he is on a break from touring.  They finished off their single from the current album, “You Look Good”, in stellar fashion creating my favorite memory from the evening.  Also loved the opening with just the two added horn players energizing and hyping the crowd on stage alone for a couple of minutes serving as the intro of the always incredible Lady Antebellum to enter the arena’s huge stage.  They poured their hearts out all night long and had a spectacular conclusion with an encore of “Bartender” transitioning into their mega crossover hit, “Need You Now”, and leaving the stage to a standing ovation from a very appreciative crowd.

They succeeded in accomplishing what they sought out to do, leaving it all out on the stage in a stellar performance lasting nearly two hours on a beautiful, cool, crisp fall-like evening in downtown Nashville.

Thanks, Lady Antebellum, for adding so much to the country genre with your harmonious sounds and constantly bringing your fans something fresh and new with each release for over 10 years. From their humble start playing at 3rd & Lindsley to packing arenas around the world, we hope to continue hearing from them for many more years to come. They are a must-see concert whenever they come to town.
