YouTube Originals Premiering “The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash” Documentary For Free Monday, November 11th at 11am Central

I am going to admit it, I am a sucker for a good documentary and just had the opportunity to watch an advance screening of the new YouTube Originals documentary “The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash”.

This well-done documentary builds around the FOLSOM PRISON album that was recorded live with Johnny Cash performing in front of prisoners housed at prison. Viewers are treated to first hand stories and interviews with family and celebrated collaborators throughout.

I especially enjoyed learning about his humble beginnings in a small town living on a farm in Arkansas. Johnny Cash resonates with me a lot because my dad loved to listen to his music and their upbringings were very similar. My dad also grew up in a small town in Arkansas called Star City on a farm pretty much at the same time Johnny Cash did in a large family of 12 children. He used to also tell me that he loved to listen to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio as a kid. So, I see both Johnny Cash and my dad when watching this, including when both left their small town roots and joined the Air Force. Lots of similarities! Sadly, both of them have been gone for several years now.

I think you will enjoy this very much as a country music fan, Johnny Cash fan, or just a fan of documentaries. You can watch it for free starting on Monday, November 11th at 11AM Central / 12PM Eastern on YouTube. It was created with the full cooperation of the Cash estate and it is filled with recently discovered archival materials giving you a real glance into who Johnny Cash was aside from being a country music legend. More so than you got even from the award-winning bio pic several years ago, “Walk The Line”. It is a deeper dive into his life from the people who knew him best.

The 90-minute documentary from Emmy Award-winning director Thom Zimny (Elvis Presley: The Searcher, Springsteen on Broadway) explores the artistic victories, the personal tragedies, the struggles with addiction, and the spiritual pursuits that colored Johnny Cash’s life. The documentary was nominated for a 2019 IDA Documentary Award.

In celebration of the YouTube Originals documentary, The Johnny Cash Trust and The Best Fest, in partnership with YouTube, are also bringing fans the first-ever “Cash Fest,” an unprecedented charity concert for MusiCares in Nashville at the War Memorial Auditorium on November 10th honoring the music of the legendary Johnny Cash. More information on “Cash Fest” and tickets can be found here.

Tune-In to “The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash” beginning Monday, November 11 at 11AM CT / 12PM ET and continuously run available for free on YouTube

“Icy” is her latest single and newest video off her 12-track summer release, CLARITY. It’s a song about Kim breaking the confines of a toxic relationship to become a stronger, independent version of herself whose vulnerabilities have frozen over.

“I wanted the visual to feel fresh and signify becoming a stronger version of myself,” says Kim on the video. “The video starts with me feeling trapped and watched in a glass box, but as it progresses, I escape and evolve into a bionic version of myself through the pain of heartbreak.”

Hendrick’s Gin Announces Hot Gin Punch Contest And Hosts Masterclass In Nashville

Kicking off the hot cocktail season, Hendrick’s Gin hosted a fun and tasty Hot Gin Punch Masterclass in Nashville at Moto in the Gulch with their Brand Ambassadors Seb Derbomez and Mattias Horseman.

The intimate masterclass for bar owners, bartenders, and journalists was taught by Wayne Curtis, author of the acclaimed book, “And A Bottle Of Rum: A History Of The New World In Ten Cocktails”, and columnist for the Daily Beast and Imbibe.

Hendrick’s Gin Brand Ambassadors Seb Derbomez and Mattias Horseman with author Wayne Curtis at Moto.

As Curtis taught, hot punch was a staple at gatherings during the Victorian time period invoking visions of a Charles Dickens’ England. Dickens even wrote about hot punch because it was so popular in his time. However, hot punch fell out of favor shortly after with people thinking of punch now being simply like Hawaiian Punch or the cold punch served at wedding receptions with sherbet and soda mixed in. People began to prefer individual drinks rather than sharing from a punchbowl.

Now, Hendrick’s Gin is bringing hot punch back with the launch of its Hot Gin Punch Contest happening now through mid-November.

To enter the contest, create an original hot gin punch recipe that will serve at least 11 people with Hendrick’s Gin as the main ingredient (of course), create a video on your social media account (the more entertaining, the better), and tag Hendrick’s Gin. Be sure to state that it is your entry for the Hot Gin Punch Contest and get your entry in by mid-November to qualify.

Finalists will be selected from the entries received and flown for a live demonstration of their hot gin punch creations in front of a panel of judges in Alaska. The winner selected from the finalists will then be awarded a trip with Hendrick’s Gin to Scotland. Sounds like a fun and tasty adventure, doesn’t it? Good luck!

Hendrick’s Gin

Hand crafted in Scotland in miniscule batches, Hendrick’s Gin is a deliciously super premium gin, made with a distinct blend of eleven botanicals, as well as the signature infusions of cucumber and rose petals, producing a wonderfully refreshing gin with a delightfully unique aroma. Hendrick’s is the only gin that uses a marriage of spirits from both a Carter-Head and Copper Pot Still, a combination that produces a divinely smooth gin that has both the required character and balance of subtle flavors. High Fashion And A Night To Remember At 2019 Nashville Symphony Fashion Show

If you’re looking for a night filled with super-chic fashion and the metropolis’s most eccentric and elegent art supporters, look no further than the Nashville Symphony Fashion Show 2019.

This year was the 10th anniversary and boasted Carolina Herrera’s fall collection, Presented by Gus Mayer with a special appearance by Creative Director Wes Gordon. The show featured country entertainer Lauren Alaina with ticket proceeds supporting the Nashville Symphony’s artistic, educational, and community programming.

There was a the VIP party held upstairs with a step & repeat.  Downstairs on the side patios featured open bars and live music.

The crowd was dressed to the nines, I myself wore a black, velvet and sheer sparkle-studded Johnathan Kayne jumpsuit.

The CH collection was an an obvious omauge to 60s mod and a true testament to the multifaceted woman. The runway was directly in the middle of the glowing symphony hall and was constantly being splashed with bright falling orange or magenta chefon and electric blue died furs.

Sammi Moore stunned in a long black, button down, taffeta-dress complete with pockets. The newest Victoria Secret model, Sofie Rovenstine, displayed her signature smile, Carolina Horerra’s fun choice of brightly printed silks and bellowing sleeves. Sheridan walked in a fitted black suit with a surprise peekaboo cutout in back.

CH brought in embroidered leather, high necklines, and high hemlines, some doused in rhinestones and all paired perfectly with the hero of the night… the Manolo flat.  Big cheers Bobbi Jo Hemmen and the team at Gus Mayer for creating a vision on the runway that encapsulated what women desire… easy-beauty and comfortable-freedom.

Shoutout to Codigo 1530 for making the yummiest Tequila refreshments for the pregame and the killer after party.

George Dickel Boldly Enters The Bottled In Bond Category With Their 13-Year-Old Whisky

With its smooth yet bold flavor with subtle sweet notes carefully-aged in white oak barrels for 13 years, George Dickel enters into the coveted Bottled in Bond category with their latest limited release – George Dickel Bottled in Bond Tennessee Whisky.  Not only is it a high quality whisky, but a great buy for whisky lovers with a MSRP of only $35.99 for a 750ML bottle available for purchase today at Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. in Tullahoma and rolling out nationwide later this month.

What exactly IS Bottled in Bond? The Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 was enacted in order to help guarantee the spirit’s authenticity and level of quality.  For the discerning whisky drinker who craves more transparency and wishes to be guaranteed the highest quality, the Bottled in Bond spirits that are starting to make a resurgence should come as a delight.

To be labeled as Bottled in Bond, a spirit must be aged and bottled according to a special set of regulations from the U.S. Government that includes:

  • Be the product of one distillation season by one distillery (George Dickel Bottled in Bond has been distilled by Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. at Cascade Hollow Distillery, DSP-TN-2, during the fall season of 2005)
  • Be stored in oak containers a federally bonded warehouse under U.S. government supervision (George Dickel Bottled in Bond was stored at Cascade Hollow Distillery in Tullahoma, TN) for at least four years (13 years old)
  • Be bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV) and reduced in proof only by the addition of water to not less than 100 proof

At 100 proof (50% ABV), George Dickel’s Bottled in Bond offers a bold and balanced profile highlighted by tastes of light honey, tropical fruit, warm spices, and a touch of leather. This batch comes from barrels that were maturing since Fall 2005, and while the 13-year-old whisky makes its debut at Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. today, May 17th, and rolling out to shelves nationwide later this month.

Already George Dickel Bottled in Bond has won awards.  It took home Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and racked up a score of 95 (on a scale of 100), earning the designation of “Best Buy” from Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

This versatile, award-winning, limited edition whisky can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, in addition to being well-suited for a variety of cocktails.  General Manager Nicole Austin recommends enjoying it neat or on the rocks first to fully realize and experience the full flavor profile before mixing into some of your favorite cocktails.

George Dickel’s ongoing commitment to making unique, smooth, high quality whisky available at a great value continues with the release of George Dickel Bottled in Bond with Nicole Austin at the helm of operations as General Manager and Distiller.  It marks her first innovation since joining the company in 2018.  Austin, along with her dedicated staff, take great pride in maintaining the traditions and standards set by George Dickel himself and continue to look ahead creating different innovations to compete in today’s market appealing to whisky lovers across the U.S..

“We wanted George Dickel Bottled in Bond to be rooted in authenticity, quality and truth, reflective of the values we feel are most important when making Tennessee’s finest whisky,” said Austin. “The aged whisky stocks we have access to here at Cascade Hollow are absolutely beautiful, and it’s important to me that we create whisky that’s sure to be a great value for the quality you’re getting.”

Corn, rye, and malted barley grains are blended together and milled to create Bottled in Bond with a mash bill of 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley.  Followed by a mashing process for 3-4 hours adding enzymes throughout this process.  Afterwards, a fermentation process lasting 3-4 days with an 8th generation custom yeast for George Dickel’s use only.  It is then charcoal mellowed, like the rest of the George Dickel Tennessee Whisky products, which helps it get that smooth mouthfeel for which the brand is best known for.  George Dickel himself once said that winter is the best time to create his whisky for a smoother taste, so temperatures are kept during the process typically between 40-46 degrees to uphold the standards set so long ago by its original creator.  Finally, the whiskey is stored in large white oak barrels in warehouses on the property to age appropriately as they are carefully tended to ensuring the highest of standards are held throughout the entire process.

Back in 1870, George Dickel worked diligently to achieve his life-long dream for crafting the smoothest Tennessee Whisky he could right on the very same land tucked far back off the beaten path in Tullahoma, Tennessee that the Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. sits today.

Since then, operations have continued to expand as the demand for George Dickel Whisky continues to grow in popularity.  The vast acreage that Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. sits on today holds a visitor center and bottle shop along with the distillery plant that you see next to the cascading streams that run throughout the area.  Although built on the original land, it is not the original distillery that its creator operated in.  This newer facility was built in the late 1950’s.

That tradition set forth by the original creator and namesake, continues over a century later, as the staff guided by Nicole Austin at Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. painstakingly hold to the rich traditions in whisky-making set forth by George Dickel himself so many years ago.

Exclusive Audio Premiere: Clark Manson | “Goodyear’s

Clark Manson cleverly connects three generations through the tires on a truck passed down from father to son in his new song, “Goodyear’s”. Evolving from the good-time, party guy we met a few years ago to a tender-hearted, first-time father, his new self-penned single is set to release tomorrow, May 17.  We are excited to bring you an exclusive first listen!

Listen to “Goodyear’s” now here:

Audio Player

Sentiment and nostalgia earnestly roll out of “Goodyear’s” from the very first notes.

“I remember the day he passed it down to me / I was smiling like crazy, holding the keys / Four new tires he said is all it needs”

While the song begins with Manson reflecting on the past with his father, it soon finds the 28-year-old looking forward to the future with his son, who was born last year.

“They seen some long nights where your momma liked to pull off and park, we were dancing in the lights, kissin’ in the dark, got stuck one night down by the creek after a couple of beers, yeah those were some Goodyears”

“Goodyear’s” is undoubtedly Clark Manson’s most authentic, heartwarming song yet. Clearly, becoming a husband and father have been great for him.

No stranger to success, Manson has had three consecutive singles featured on Spotify’s “New Boots” playlist, placement on SiriusXM “The Highway,” an independent album on Billboard’s Top 5 Heatseaker Chart and an independent EP reaching Top 10 on iTunes County.

If you’re lucky enough to have a truck passed down from your dad, “Goodyear’s” is the kind of song that makes you want to hop in it, drive over to his house and give him the biggest hug of your life.

Hey Goodyear Tires, Clark Manson wrote and recorded the perfect song for your next commercial. You’re welcome.

Keep up with Clark Manson at clarkmanson.com, Facebook, Instagram & Twitter!

Country artist Chris Lane is one of the artists participating with Live Nation’s National Concert Week.  We had an opportunity to talk with him this week about his upcoming summer tour.

Just off touring with hot country duo Dan & Shay, up-and-coming artist Chris Lane is excited to be joining longtime country star Brad Paisley for his world headlining tour this summer.

Chris Lane’s star is steadily rising as his current single, “I Don’t Know About You”, off his 2nd studio album on Big Loud Records entitled, LAPS AROUND THE SUN, continues to climb the country charts along with its video surpassing 31 million views and counting.  On Spotify, Lane has over 1 billion career streams to date.

“I Don’t Know About You”, co-written by Ashley Gorley, Michael Hardy, Hunter Phelps, and Jameson Rodgers, was chosen based on the overwhelming fan reaction to the song during his live shows.  The song about a first meeting and getting to know someone that share chemistry with is really resonating with concert-goers. The chorus includes several questions that normally happen when 2 people meet for the first time and a romantic spark has ensued.

Regarding one of his favorite tour moments, Lane stated that “it is hearing the audience sing the words” of his current single back to him during his live performances.  It was this fan reaction each night that propelled him and his label to release it as a single, so essentially, it was the fans who helped chose the next single to radio due to such a strong response.

Lane also recalled some past tour humorous times like when he was out on tour with Rascal Flatts who liked to make up wild stories that he joined in on just to pass the time and for a few laughs.

I asked if he had an tour pranks played on him that many artists like to do to their tourmates.  As of yet, “no”, but “he heard that Brad Paisley likes to play a few pranks on tours”, so he is prepared to share some fun times and a few laughs with Paisley while out on the road with him this summer.
