Rock Bottom Brewery In Downtown Nashville Debuts An All-New Nashville Favorites Menu

I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend the VIP preview party debuting Rock Bottom Brewery’s all-new Nashville Favorites menu.

The party took place on their beautiful rooftop overlooking lower Broadway in downtown Nashville.  The outside was decked out with a modern-style firepit, white & red couches/chairs, heat lamps, and they unvailed a colorful, new mural on a prominent wall.  They featured a beautifully-decorated area inside with the bar that included flowers and boot-shaped floral arrangements scattered about, and out by the red carpet at the entry of the building.  There was a nice sampling of many of the new menu items and their full cocktail menu, plus a special acoustic performance by rising country artist, Chris Lane.

Unfortunately, the weather did not quite cooperate since it was such a cold, windy and overcast day.  Despite this, Chris Lane braved the cold outside along with most of the guests at the party for a 30-minute performance.  Even in the cold, he gave a great performance to an appreciative, attentive crowd huddled together near the heat lamps to try to keep warm.

Luckily, the rooftop is half enclosed, so the cold did not dampen the spirits of guests, and allowed the party to continue on for invited patrons to enjoy delicious southern-inspired food and creative cocktails.

My personal favorites were the ribs with a BBQ sauce infused with a Nashville favorite, Jack Daniels Whiskey, and a little spice to add just the right amount of heat to the tender, delicious ribs.  The shrimp & grits were also especially tasty and flavorful.  Always a favorite of mine and many others.  The pomegranate cosmopolitan was so pretty, I wasn’t sure I wanted to drink it.  However, it tasted just as good as it looked.  Sweet & fruity in a tall-stemmed, martini glass with just the right amount of alcohol; not too much and not too little.  It was a highly-flavorful concoction that I can’t wait to enjoy again next time I am in downtown Nashville.  What can I say about the two desserts I tasted? Banana pudding and bourbon pecan pie.  Both tasty and decadent.  Completely satisfied my sweet tooth!

Also on the new menu, there is delicious, new beer that has been brewed for the update, along with perfectly-fried, fresh hush puppies, bacon-wrapped green beans, chicken bites with waffles, and so much more.  You will want to try out their all-new menu yourself.

Rock Bottom Brewery is located on the corner of Broadway and 2nd Ave., offering great views of downtown Nashville and Riverfront Park.  Open seven days a week.

If looking for a fun place book your company’s holiday party this year or somewhere to enjoy NYE coming up that is slightly away from the crowds of the Nashville NYE celebration at Bicentennial Park, but still gives you a great view of the fireworks and among Nashville’s historical district where everyone seems to want to be, it’s a great option and I highly-recommend it.

Delta Rae Revival At The Basement: A Southern Gothic Immersive Experience

Signed to Big Machine Label Group, Delta Rae is currently hosting a weekly residency every Wednesday night beginning at 8pm through December at The Basement.

The Durham, North Carolina natives who formed as a band 9 years ago is comprised of siblings, Ian Hölljes, Eric Hölljes, and Brittany Hölljes, as well as Elizabeth Hopkins, Mike McKee, and Grant Emerson.

What I have always loved about Delta Rae from the first time I saw them perform is the energy and passion they always bring to the stage.  As great as they sound on their recorded music, they are a band that really needs to be seen in-person to fully appreciate their music.  On the stage is where they really shine and there is nobody else out there like them.  That is why the weekly residency called the Delta Rae Revival is the perfect opportunity to see them.

The Delta Rae Revival is a fun southern gothic theme set inside what they have created as the haunted chapel.  It fits their swampy, folky sound perfectly and is pure unadulterated fun.  You forget that you are in Nashville and are transported to an old, abandoned, haunted chapel in the deep south somewhere deep within the swamps of Louisiana.

You are first greeted by an old time southern preacher preaching from his pulpit.  Stained glass windows and old style lanterns decorate the dim, almost cave-like atmosphere of The Basement located off 8th Ave. South beneath Grimey’s Record Store.

Delta Rae is joined each week by special guests opening the night for them.  This show featured 18-year-old Payton Smith with his full band, whose stage presence and guitar skills command the room.  He comes across far more seasoned than his mere 18 years and is an artist to keep your eye on.  Following Smith’s high energy, full band performance, Adam Wakefield took to the stage with an acoustic set.  Probably should have been swapped in order of performance with Wakefield opening up the night since it is a tough for acoustic to follow a full band performance due to always more subdued regardless of who you are.  However, the extremely talented THE VOICE alum with his soulful vocals held his own.

The show started at 8pm with the opening artists and by 930pm when Delta Rae took to the stage, the crowd was packed to capacity spilling far out into the lobby area where you only get a limited view of what is going on, so arrive early when the doors open at 730pm to snag a good spot to view the show and grab yourself a drink.  It’s worth it and such a treat!

You only have through December to see Delta Rae’s residency.  Don’t miss it! It really is a lot of fun filled with great performances.

“The Walking Dead” Actress Emily Kinney Performs At 3rd and Lindsley

Kicking off the 40 city “Same Mistakes” tour, Emily Kinney made Nashville her fourth stop at the weekly Lightning 100 Sunday night live broadcast at 3rd & Lindsley, supporting her latest studio recording, “Oh Jonathan”.

Kinney is no stranger to the entertainment world, having notable success as an actress in film and television, she is best known for her role as Beth Greene in the popular series, “The Walking Dead”.  She will also be appearing in the upcoming Netflix series, “Messiah”.

Aside from acting, Kinney has always been passionate about her songwriting and music career. Her latest album, “Oh Jonathan”, is a well-received collection of songs that signifies a pure and honest sound.  Her simple melodies, combined with innocently sweet vocals and an electro-pop undertone, allows the listener to relate to her youthful, yet mature sound.  Kinney was listed by Paste as the “Best of What’s Next” and Esquire declared her as a “double-threat musician you need to know”.

Joining Kinney on tour is Paul McDonald as opening support.  McDonald is best known for his stint on season 10 of American Idol”.  He has maintained an impressive presence independently since then, creating and recording music that has garnered positive criticism on local and national platforms.

McDonald’s 2018 release, “Modern Hearts”, was produced by Jordan Lehning (Caitlin Rose, Rodney Crowell, Andrew Combs), and features an impressive cast of studio musicians whose resumes include Cage The Elephant, James Bay, Shawn Mendes, Maren Morris, Nikki Lane, Kacey Musgraves, and Buddy Miller, among others. The album was tracked with ace musicians playing in real time with sympathetic band interplay at the vibey Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC (Band Of Horses, Avett Brothers).  Additional recording took place at Sound Emporium Studios (Jason Isbell, Alabama Shakes) in Nashville, TN

McDonald is also currently featured on the summer 2018 Lincoln Parish (Cage The Elephant) release,  “What I Need”.

Hotel Thrillist Descends Upon Nashville To Showcase One Of Their Favorite Cities

On September 21st and 22nd, we had the pleasure to be invited to join www.thrillist.com for their 9th annual Hotel Thrillist as they descended upon Music City to take in the sights, music, and fine dining to be found in Nashville.  Thrillist is all about fun, good food, and adventure.  That’s exactly what they found in our city.

They took over the gorgeous Westin Hotel, which is perfectly situated in downtown Nashville within walking distance of Music City Center, Bridgestone Arena, Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium, and lower Broadway, home to the multiple honky tonks lining the street that draws tourists from all over the world.

The Westin Hotel in Nashville features spectacular views of downtown with a modern, luxurious rooftop pool and L27 Rooftop Lounge on the highest floor of this relatively-new hotel opened within the last 5 years.

Hotel Thrillist rolled out the red carpet, literally, to its guests and staff with the help of presenting sponsor Chase Sapphire and all of its major sponsors: George Dickel, Coca-Cola, Hotels.com, Acura, and Hardees.

The first day began with a fun trip to Cascade Hollow Distillery where they make George Dickel Whisky just outside of Nashville tucked away far into a picturesque countryside in Tullahoma, Tennessee.  It took just a little over an hour to get there on our chartered bus that included plenty of George Dickel Whisky and snacks to make the trip even more enjoyable as we took in the rural sights along the way.

We arrived at Cascade Hollow Distillery on a beautiful, balmy fall day where we were immediately greeted with live acoustic music by a local artist, George Dickel Whisky specialty drinks to satisfy our thirst, and cornhole set up to play at our leisure.

Next, we were treated to a tasty, southern-style meal served family style as we dined on long wooden picnic tables inside the Cascade Hollow General Store.  Sweet tea, pork tenderloin, fried chicken, macaroni & cheese, 7 layer salad, deviled eggs, biscuits, banana pudding, peach cobbler, and more was served to us that day.  Each prepared with care and absolutely delicious.  Pretty sure I gained 5 pounds from lunch alone!

Next, we enjoyed a fun hayride on a flat bed trailer with hay, of course, pulled behind a pickup truck all around the beautiful property to take in the scenery and show us where George Dickel Whiskey is made.

Next, we were back off to Nashville for The Nashville Feast hosted by celebrity Chef Maneet Chahaun at BMI on Music Row who organized 25 of Nashville’s best restaurants for guests to try speciality dishes from each as we were entertained with a full band performance by Warner Music’s Cale Dodds.  The food was plentiful and flavorful.  Impossible for us to pick a favorite.

The event was originally set to take place on BMI’s rooftop, but due to threats of bad weather, the event was moved one level below in their large indoor garage that still allowed for open air to flow through and taking in beautiful night views of the city while enjoying some of the best culinary offerings found in Nashville.

The following day, we met Thrillist for an afternoon of great food, music and enjoying the rooftop view overlooking lower Broadway in downtown Nashville at one of the newest honky tonks owned by country superstar Jason Aldean that was just opened this past summer, Jason Aldean’s Kitchen & Rooftop Bar.

The multi-level restaurant, bar, and music venue was comfortable, modern, fun, and the food was delicious.  We especially enjoyed the shrimp & grits and the warm pretzel bites with side of cheese to dip into.

We wrapped up the weekend with Thrillist on Saturday night with a special invitation only party at country superstar John Rich of Big & Rich’s mansion, Mount Richmore, on top of a hill overlooking Nashville.  The multi-story home included a fun guitar-shaped pool and a two-story nightclub for his own personal entertaining that includes a full service bar with a stage complete with a rhinestone & mirror covered saddle hanging from the ceiling replacing the standard mirror ball you usually expect to see in the center of the room.  Party goers were greeted at the gate with a red carpet and entered the mansion via elevator from the ground floor.  John Rich even treated guests to a special performance from the stage within his mansion to the delight of attendees.

Thank you so much for including us in this fun weekend, Hotel Thrillist! We had an incredible time and hope to see you again.

Go to www.thrillist.com to keep up with the latest from them.  They are always featuring the best of the best around the country and more.

Cascade Hollow Distillery And George Dickel: The Perfect Day Trip From Nashville

Looking for a fun day trip from Nashville to explore a bit of the countryside and explore something a little different? Cascade Hollow Distillery in Tullahoma, where they make George Dickel Whisky, might be just what you are looking for.

Just a little over an hour drive from Nashville nestled among the hills of the Cumberland Plateau, beautiful wooded countryside with fresh water flowing in Cascade Springs nearby is the picturesque Cascade Hollow Distillery where they have long made George Dickel Whisky since it was built in 1870 from their non-computerized distillery.

There is a rustic general store for visitors to peruse and purchase George Dickel souvenirs, enjoy a whisky tasting session, and get set to tour the beautiful distillery via a fun hayride that will take you all around the property.

You will see just how they make their smooth Tennessee whisky.  The staff takes great pride in their traditional process and you will see that the process really has not changed since George Dickel himself first started making his famous whisky.  They painstakingly make sure the whisky-making tradition that was began in the 1800’s is upheld to the highest of quality standards and that means patience to let the flavors develop over time in wooden barrels in Cascade Hollow.  It is a long process, but something that the folks in Cascade Hollow take great pride in.

We had the pleasure of touring their beautiful, historic distillery recently enjoying a flavorful lunch where we passed food family style sitting on long wooden picnic tables as we thoroughly-enjoyed some mouthwatering southern comfort food prior to heading out on a fun hayride on a trailer being pulled behind a pickup truck as we took in the sights of the beautiful countryside and distillery where the famous whiskey is made. Afterwards, we enjoyed a whisky tasting session where our tour guide educated us about the whisky-making process and the flavors found in each distinct product.  We enjoyed a special large group tour with Hotel Thrillist when they came to town.  A regular tour does not include lunch.

Another thing to do at Cascade Hollow Distillery is to head out there when they host their fun Porch Sessions.

Porch Sessions is a special music series held at Cascade Hollow Distillery during the late spring, summer, and early fall months. You will have to watch our site or theirs for announcements when the next one takes place.

Usually happening on a Saturday, attendees can purchase a concert ticket off their website. You can bring your own chair, sit back taking in the surroundings, enjoy sipping on some George Dickel Whisky specialty drinks mixed by bartenders on-site, play some cornhole, local food trucks provide a good assortment of food for purchase to satisfy your hunger, and then enjoy some great live music by some of Nashville’s brightest up-and-coming artists.

The most recent one held in September featured British singer Lycie Silvas who just released her album, E.G.O., made her debut on the Opry stage, and a first-time performance on ABC’s Good Morning America last month.  Silvas’ soulful, powerful vocals were set to original music that she penned with other well-respected songwriters in Nashville that is a nod to classic rock of the 70’s with a fresh twist of a contemporary sound.  Concert-goers loved hearing and watching this rising star in the States who has already made quite a name for herself in the U.K. and amassed a large following across the pond.

Past Porch Sessions performances have included: Ashley McBryde, Chase Bryant, Paul Cauthen & The Texas Gentlemen, Pardi, Frankie Ballard, LOCASH, Maddie and Tae, and more.  It always makes for a fun day out and well worth the price of the ticket.

We can not wait to see what they do next.  Thank you for including us!

Chris Young Sells Out Hometown Arena Show

Chris Young and nearly 14,000 fans from his sold-out headlining show
at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on September 22, 2018

On Saturday, September 22nd, Chris Young along with tour mates, Kane Brown and Morgan Evans, brought their LOSING SLEEP tour to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to play a sold out show.

You could feel the energy in the air with this enthusiastic crowd as they sang along, danced, and lit up their phones in response to hit songs by all 3 of the artists, especially Chris Young who headlined the concert.

Starting out the evening was Australian artist Morgan Evans signed to Warner Music Nashville.  Evans was joined onstage by his “American band”, which consists of him, a guitar, and foot pedals to control pre-recorded loops.  The result is he sounds just like he is playing with a full band only it is just him.

Fans sang along with Evans to his recent first number one hit, “Kiss Somebody”, and roared with excitement as he welcomed Kelsea Ballerini to the stage to sing a duet with him.  The newly-weds both beamed at each other under the bright concert lights and blended their harmonies perfectly together.

Sony Nashville’s Kane Brown was the next to take the stage with his full band.  It was clear that many in the audience were there to see Brown as they cheered loudly and sang along to many of his songs.  Brown gave an energetic performance along with his high energy band.  He was urged back to the stage by fans at the conclusion of his set for an encore when he sang his 2 biggest hits to date, “What If’s” and “Heaven”.  The crowd went wild for both.

Finally, the energy in the arena built to a palpable level that you could literally feel as the stage crew prepared the huge stage for the headliner, Sony Music’s longtime artist Chris Young, to perform.  As concert goers eagerly-awaited Young to take to the stage, the arena’s video camera zoomed in randomly around the audience showing couples kissing and people dancing up & down the aisles.

The crowd reached a frenzied level as the lights went down to reveal a high tech video opener that concluded with the covers over the tops of all the musicial instruments being lifted from above the stage revealing Young and his band as he opened appropriately with “Losing Sleep”.

Young sang hit after hit from his large catalog to his hometown audience since he grew up just outside of Nashville in Murfreesboro and attended Belmont University.  He smiled and beamed the whole night as he seemingly enjoyed every minute of it up soaking it all in as the crowd cheered in delight every time he simply stepped towards his microphone before he could even utter a lyric.

For years, Chris Young has worked towards this moment making his way through the Nashville music scene as a teenager “paying his dues” playing small venues like the French Quarter in east Nashville, which now is The Crying Wolf, and El Chico’s Mexican restaurant on Murfreesboro Rd. several years before it closed down where he was asked to play cover songs performing for tips only.  He has come a long way since then and has worked tirelessly for years to get to this level in his career, which shows no signs of slowing down.

Performing in the largest venue in Nashville, next to Nissan Stadium, to a sold out crowd inside Bridgestone Arena for his own headlining tour must have felt like a dream come true for the humble artist that night.  A dream that he has worked especially hard for since he was a teenager as he honed his skills in performing and songwriting.  This was a well-deserved moment for a very deserving, hardworking artist.

Young was joined on stage by special guest, the talented Cassadee Pope, for their #1 hit, “Think Of Us”.   Later, he was joined by longtime label mate, Brad Paisley, to sing Paisley’s hit, “I’m Still A Guy”.  It was a playful moment to go along with a playful song as they had a little fun with a woman in the front row as they held on to her cellphone she eagerly handed to them.  Wondering to themselves as they took some selfies: “what a female in Nashville might have on her phone”.  They both playfully perused her phone scrolling through pictures and who she last called.  Then they decided to call back her last number dialed leaving a message on that person’s voicemail.  Finally handing the phone back to the excited audience member as they finished the song out.  Just guys being guys, only on a stage in front of nearly 14,000 adoring fans.

Young stated that he could play all night to this crowd as he performed until after 11pm for a 17 song set, posed for a fun photo of him and the sold out crowd, and smashing an acoustic guitar (stating that he had never done that before) on stage before ending the night a couple of songs later.

It was a night filled with great music and memories.  All the rain outside could not dampen anyone’s spirits that evening and Young, along with his tour mates, shined brightly like the sun that was missing from outside behind the clouds inside the arena.

It was a night of celebrations as the LOSING SLEEP tour played its 33rd sold out show and Chris Young played his first ever concert inside the Bridgestone Arena, something I am sure he only dreamed of doing several years ago as a college student in Nashville.
