BMI and ASCAP gathered alongside industry executives, friends and family to celebrate Carrie Underwood’s No. 1 hit “Southbound” at BMI’s Nashville office tonight. Written by BMI songwriters Underwood and Josh Miller and ASCAP’s David Garcia, the track marks Underwood’s 27th No. 1 and her 14th as a co-writer. Though packed, the celebration felt intimate, with heartfelt congratulations from BMI’s Jody Williams, ASCAP’s Kele Currier and Universal’s Cindy Mabe, as well as the writers’ respective publishers from Cornman Music, Universal Music Publishing and Spirit Music Group. Underwood will host the CMA Awards for the 12th consecutive year this November, and has been nominated for three awards, including “Female Vocalist of the Year”, “Album of the Year”, and “Entertainer of the Year”.
