Before the First Note, “The Big Revival” Hits A Million

imageIt’s been a year in the making, and people are obviously ready for Kenny Chesney’s The Big Revival Tour. With his first tour in two years not kicking off until next week, the man The Los Angeles Times called “The People’s Superstar” has already surpassed the one million ticket mark.

“It’s a little surreal,” says the only Country Act inBillboard’s Top 10 Touring Acts of the Last 25 Years. “I know how hungry I am to get out there and see all the faces of the No Shoes Nation, but it feels good knowing they’re as ready to see us as we are to see them!”

With an almost instant sell-out for two nights at Foxboro’s Gillette Stadium and an instant sell-out at Minneapolis’ Target Field that prompted adding a second night, as well as the tour kick-off March 26th at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena moving so fast a second night was added, The Big Revival Tour rolls into this summer with a vengeance. Having spent a decade headlining stadiums in many of the nation’s unlikeliest cities, Chesney is also returning to some markets he’s not played in a few years

For The Big Revival, beyond the 22 stadiums on the schedule, Chesney has shifted his focus from the amphitheaters to playing more arenas in an attempt to get closer to the stadium experience for the fans who will be coming to the more intimate shows.

“Having spent the year I wasn’t on the road, making music and thinking about how I wanted to bring it to the fans, we really went looking for things that would ramp up both the concert experience and the way the songs hit… and when you’re pulling in a PA from Australia, a lighting system from Italy and video screens that rival Cowboys’ Stadium, you kinda hate to walk away from that sort of intensity…

“No one loves playing outside more than I do, but when we looked at the show, thought about what we were going to do in the stadiums, it just made sense to shift our focus to the arenas. It’s a little different for us, but it’s going to make for a better show for the fans! Just being in rehearsals, hearing the band – who’ve never sounded better – and these songs, the energy before we even get to the fans is incredible. Put a roof on it, add these screens… and get ready.”

The Big Revival, his 13th No. 1 BillboardCountry Album debut, already yielded his 25thand 26th No.1’s: the GRAMMY-nominated multiple week chart-topper “American Kids,” also nominated for the Academy of Country Music’s Song, Single and Video of the Year Awards, and  “’Til It’s Gone.” With “Wild Child,” his free-spirited woman celebrating duet with Grace Potter, rising at country radio, there’s plenty of landmark new music from his latest project.

The critics concur. Rolling Stone offered The Big Revival “continuously brings a sense of musical energy and emotional urgency,” while USA Today called it, “a coming-of-age tale full of life-changing memories” and The Associated Presswrote, “avoids the cliches flowing through contemporary country songs by injecting some real-life gravitas.”

“This music on this album takes the show to a whole other level,” Chesney says. “I can’t even tell you what it’s done for the momentum, because I can’t capture it. But it’s why I’m ready to get out there with the fans… it’s gonna be a summer you won’t forget.”
