Song Review: “Any Day Is A Good Day” By Amber Hayes

Amber Hayes“Any Day Is A Good Day” sung by Amber Hayes and written by Amber Hayes, Bill DiLuigi and JP Williams is a soft, traditional country ballad.  Hayes’ strong, controlled vocals combined with the thoughtful lyrics and the scaled-back production create a very pleasing song to the listener.  I especially enjoyed the infusion of the steel guitar throughout the song–sadly you don’t hear it quite enough for my taste in many country songs any more.  Continue Reading →

Fast Company Names Scott Borchetta One Of The “Most Creative People In Business”

Fast Company names Big Machine Label Group President/CEO Scott Borchetta one of the “100 Most Creative People In Business 2013”  in its June issue. The revolutionary entrepreneur is the only record label executive featured on the elite magazine’s annual list of global leaders from companies such as Apple, Google, Nike, American Express and Ford.

With an inquisitive nature, strong instincts and a skies-the-limit approach, it’s no wonder that Borchetta has turned his 2005 indie record company with a 15-year-old female artist (aka International Superstar Taylor Swift) into the successful brand and multi-tiered organization, housing three imprints (Big Machine Records, The Valory Music Co., Republic Nashville) and a publishing company (Big Machine Music), it is today.

Mayor Karl Dean Gives Sneak Peek Of Massive Music City Center

Music City Center

The massive hallway featuring the custom “sound wave” carpet

Perhaps you’ve noticed there has been some construction going on in downtown Nashville… That will all come to fruition next week as the extravagant Music City Center opens its doors. Upon touring this massive, yet beautifully artistic Nashville centerpiece, one can’t help but frequently gaze around in awe.

Mayor Karl Dean gave a sneak peek of the new convention center to the media on Wednesday, noticeably proud of the biggest municipal project in Tennessee history. From the 6,000-person Grand Ballroom modeled after the inside of a guitar to the $2 million art budget, the Music City Center is sure to impress and deliver grand results for the city.

A point emphasized on Mayor Dean’s tour was that this building has not been built with an “if you build it, they will come” frame of mind. To the contrary, this was a necessary step, because they’re already coming.

Sunny Sweeney Signs New Record Deal With Thirty Tigers

Sunny Sweeney

Country music singer/songwriter Sunny Sweeney has signed with Thirty Tigers and will begin working on her next album.

Earlier this year, the Longview, Texas native was nominated for the Academy of Country Music’s New Female Vocalist of the Year Award. Previously signed to both Big Machine Records and its sister label Republic Nashville, Sweeney released two critically acclaimed albums: Heartbreaker’s Hall of Fame and Concrete.  The latter album featured the Top Ten hit “From a Table Away,” which was the highest charting Billboard debut single from a female country artist in four years.

“I have long been a fan of Thirty Tigers and the amazing roster of talent they have worked with through the years, and am thrilled to become part of their family,” said Sweeney. “I can’t wait to share my new music with my fans!”

“Most of the time, it’s the managers or attorneys that initiate discussions about artist relationships. In this case, I reached out, hat in hand, expressing how much we’d love to work with Sunny,” said David Macias, President and Co-Founder, Thirty Tigers. “I’m such a fan of hers and I’m incredibly excited that she is joining the family. We’re looking forward to working with Sunny, as well as the incredibly talented team of people she’s surrounded herself with.”

The Austin Chronicle wrote, “Sunny Sweeney’s got the chops: a hard-bitten Texas twang that can cut with both coyness and attitude, unapologetic about the kind of country she was raised on.”

In its review of 2011 release Concrete, Country Weekly said, “Sunny Sweeney breaks into the boys’ club that country radio has largely become over the past several months with enough tough-chick twang to rival country’s current purveyor Miranda Lambert. This Texas-bred singer knows how to convey heartfelt and complex emotions with one clever turn of a phrase…But make no mistake, that girl-next-door innocence is short-lived. This singer can turn sassy when scorned… if Music City can handle one more tough-and-tender female country singer, Sunny can surely shine in that slot.”
