Scott Borchetta’s THE LAUNCH Unveils Details For Season 2

Tickets to attend live studio audience tapings of THE LAUNCH now available
– Season 2 to feature limited commercial time with custom advertising opportunities
Days before production kicks off on the highly anticipated second season of its hit original series THE LAUNCH, CTV announced today the first wave of celebrity mentors on deck to guide this season’s round of hand-picked emerging artists vying for an opportunity to create a new hit single. Recording superstar Ryan Tedder, the creative force behind THE LAUNCH Season 1 certified platinum hit single “Ain’t Easy”, returns to the series in a dual role as celebrity mentor and producer, along with Grammy® Award-winning singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan and Max Kerman, the 4x JUNO-Award winning frontman for Hamilton rock band Arkells.

THE LAUNCH also announced today that Québec pop icon Marie-Mai (STAR ACADÉMIE, LA VOIX) joins the series’ as a permanent mentor on the weekly celebrity panel alongside music industry powerhouse Scott Borchetta. In addition, fan favourite entertainment reporter Liz Trinnear (ETALK) joins the show in a new hosting role. THE LAUNCH begins production on its second season Sept. 26 in Toronto. Audience tickets are now available; see details below.

“Marie-Mai is an amazing artist and performer, and her vast industry know-how will provide a powerful counterpoint to Scott’s expertise, bringing a new and engaging dynamic for both artists and viewers,” said Randy Lennox, President, Bell Media. “We also welcome the superb energy that Liz brings as a host as she guides the performers and the audience through the emotional journey of launching new artists and new songs each week.”

“I’m truly so excited to kick off Season 2 of THE LAUNCH! We have great artistic talent from all across Canada, a new permanent second-seat mentor with the amazingly talented Marie-Mai, and we’ve landed the host with the absolute most, Liz Trinnear,” said Scott Borchetta, Founder/President/CEO of the Big Machine Label Group and co-creator and Executive Producer of THE LAUNCH. “Ryan (Tedder) is coming back and is so fired up about producing another LAUNCH winner, Sarah McLachlan will be amazing to work with as will my new friend Max Kerman… LETS. ROCK. THE. LAUNCH. S2!”

THE LAUNCH heads into production for Season 2 on the heels of a breakthrough inaugural season that garnered an exclusive worldwide distribution deal with Sony Pictures Television (SPT). In addition, the series delivered a series of consecutive #1 hit songs amassing more than 21 million streams internationally to date, including certified platinum “Ain’t Easy” by Season 1 chosen artists Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine. The pop/hip-hop duo won the iHeartRadio MMVA for Best New Canadian Artist in August, and recently dropped their latest single “Better Off.”

As announced earlier this year, each super-sized episode of THE LAUNCH will now feature reduced commercial time, delivering even more music and extended insight into featured artists’ auditions, and the process of recording, performing, and launching a new hit song. Each hour-long episode provides custom advertising opportunities including 30-second “superpods.” Featuring one advertiser per break, the custom creative offers a more seamless and engaging viewer experience between the commercial content and the program.

Following its hit inaugural season, THE LAUNCH vetted thousands of emerging performers for Season 2 following a coast-to-coast-to-coast casting call this past May. More celebrity mentors, songwriters/producers, as well as the artists selected to perform on Season 2 of THE LAUNCH, will be announced soon.

In each stand-alone episode of THE LAUNCH, unsigned aspiring artists audition for the opportunity to learn, record, and perform their version of a new original song by a world famous songwriter/producer. The artists are mentored by a panel of internationally renowned music industry legends alongside Borchetta, who then decide which version of the song will be released across the country immediately following the broadcast of the episode each week. THE LAUNCH is set to premiere on CTV and VRAK in early 2019.

Marie-Mai is the undisputed Queen of pop in Québec. As a supremely talented singer-songwriter, Marie-Mai dominated the Québec live music scene for more than 15 years, with more than two million spectators flocking to her successful live shows. Her four platinum albums, 17 #1 hits, 10 Félix Awards (the highest honour in Québec music – including five for Female Artist of the Year), have solidified her status as a force in the music industry. As a successful songwriter in both French and English, Marie-Mai has won seven awards from SOCAN and was honored as Songwriter of the Year in 2014. Marie-Mai was a featured performer at the Closing Ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Building on her success, she took on a coaching role on the Québec version of THE VOICE (LA VOIX) and THE VOICE KIDS (LA VOIX KIDS). Marie-Mai is set to release her sixth French album on November 9, 2018. Her first single “Empire” shattered records on the Québec music charts and her most recent second single “Je décolle”, was released last week.

Liz Trinnear is a well-known face to music and entertainment lovers in Canada, who built her career connecting with audiences and artists in a genuine and authentic manner while in the role as reporter for ETALK, Canada’s most-watched entertainment news program (2015-18), and previously on the front lines of MUCH programming for nine years. Hailing from London, Ontario, Trinnear was voted “most likely to be a MuchMusic VJ” in high school and in 2009, beat out 4,000 candidates to hand herself a job at the legendary music station. The former co-host of THE MUCH MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS (2012-14) has also interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Lady Gaga, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey, Harry Styles, and Justin Timberlake.

Scott Borchetta is Founder, President and CEO of Big Machine Label Group, the #1 independent record label in the world and home to superstars such as Taylor Swift, Florida Georgia Line, Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, and Thomas Rhett. Big Machine Vodka 400 At The Brickyard Taps Florida Georgia Line As Grand Marshals + Scott Borchetta To Wave The Green Flag

Global superstars Florida Georgia Line were already slated to have a huge presence as race namesake and festival headliners at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway next weekend. Now, they have also been tapped as the grand marshals of the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard Powered by Florida Georgia Line on Sunday, September 9.

The chart-topping and history-making duo, made up of Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, will headline the first annual FGL Fest concert on Saturday, September 8 at IMS, leading a revved-up lineup that also includes Cole Swindell, Nelly, Raelynn, Jillian Jacqueline, Mason Ramsey, Riley Green and Stephanie Quayle.

“Our growing relationship with Big Machine and Scott Borchetta has helped create an exciting new era for the NASCAR weekend at IMS this year with a new September date, exciting lineup of five days of on-track action and such a great collection of music superstars at FGL Fest,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “Scott, Tyler and Brian have been such strong supporters of this event, so it’s fitting they receive these prestigious roles on Race Day.”

Big Machine Label Group Founder, President and CEO Scott Borchetta will wave the green flag to start the 25th Running of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, which starts at 2:00P ET on the 2.5-mile IMS oval.

“We’re about to open a giant bottle of full-throttle entertainment from the first note of FGL Fest on Saturday all the way through to the checkered flag of the Big Machine Vodka 400 on Sunday!” expressed Borchetta. “Our partnership with IMS has grown bigger each year and FGL Fest is going to take it to the next level. On Saturday, in addition to our great concert line-up, we will have the Monster Motocross Stunt Riders and the Monster Girls, NASCAR Heat Video Game Championships, amazing food and drink, and surprise appearances from some of the best race drivers in the world… start your engines!”

Billboard’s first-ever “Trailblazer Award” recipients continue to build their ever-expanding empire of innovative artistry and entrepreneurial endeavors. Currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their fourth studio album (BMLG Records), FGL have given fans an early taste with No. 1 best-selling lead single “Simple,” as well as already-released tracks “Colorado,” “Talk You Out of It,” and “Sittin’ Pretty” all of which hit No. 1 on iTunes best-selling Country Songs Chart.

The kings of superstar collaborations have also shattered records with the certified 3X Platinum No. 1 single “Meant to Be” with Bebe Rexha (FGL’s 15th No. 1 single).  The single continues to lead the way atop the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for a history-making 39th week. With more than 4.2 billion streams, 31 million tracks and more than 4.3 million albums sold worldwide, the BMLG Records’ duo remains the first country act to achieve RIAA’s Diamond certification (10 million copies sold) for their breakout “Cruise,” which is the best-selling digital country single of all time.

Since 2012, FGL has earned prestigious honors from the AMAs, ACM Awards, CMA Awards, Billboard Music Awards and CMT Music Awards, plus left their mark on several chart-crushing songs as writers. As announced earlier this week, the six-time CMA Vocal Duo of the Year nominees will vie for the acclaimed title, plus Single of the Year and Musical Event of the Year for “Meant to Be” at the 52nd Annual CMA Awards, airing live from Nashville on November 14 at 8/7c on ABC.

The bonafide visionaries have launched their Old Camp Peach Pecan Whiskey, as well as thriving businesses: FGL HOUSE, meet + greet, Tree Vibez Music and Tribe Kelley. They will further elevate their revolutionary status with a limited residency, FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS, inside Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino beginning December 1.

“The Launch” Season Premiere Produces No. 1 Hit Song

Wednesday night’s series premiere of Scott Borchetta’s new, innovative music show The Launch proved that a reality music competition series can do the unthinkable: pair an unsigned emerging artist with a superstar producer and an original song to “launch” a hit single in real time.

Logan Staats is the first chosen artist by The Launch’s superstar panel of mentors for the episode, which included Borchetta, Shania Twain and renowned music songwriter and producer busbee. Immediately after the show’s premiere, Logan found himself sitting on top of Canada’s all-genre iTunes sales chart with “The Lucky Ones,” surpassing superstars Justin Timberlake and Ed Sheeran.

“Launching Logan and ‘The Lucky Ones’ reinforces the premise of this show: it all starts with a great song,” said Borchetta. “busbee delivered a song with amazing potential and pairing that great song with the right artist creates a perfect storm – Logan’s haunting, powerful voice and sheer talent bring this song to life so beautifully. I’m so proud of our first Launch artist and single – and it’s #1 on iTunes Overall Singles Chart!”

Viewer engagement for The Launch not only compelled consumers to purchase “The Lucky Ones” but also made #TheLaunch Twitter’s No. 1 trending topic in Canada for the night, proving that the Big Machine and Bell Media format has built-in multi-platform success.

The Launch’s innovative format has attracted numerous partners unlike any music show before it. iHeartRadio launched “The Lucky Ones” on all of its stations across Canada the moment the show ended. In addition to iTunes & iHeartRadio, digital music retailers and streaming services Apple Music, Spotify and Google Play immediately made “The Lucky Ones” available to buy and stream worldwide.

Borchetta continues, “In our on-demand world we honor the audience at the end of each episode by immediately delivering our Launch song. After my wonderful experience on American Idol, the need for a next-level music show hit me like a ton of bricks… and I think The Launch is that show.”

Next week the mentor panel will include Borchetta along with GRAMMY-winning singer/songwriter Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland and OneRepublic frontman and acclaimed producer/songwriter Ryan Tedder, airing Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 9:00P ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO, in super simulcast on CTV Two and Much, and in French on VRAK.

The Launch was put into development in January 2016. The series was co-developed by and is produced by Bell Media in association with Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Label Group, Paul Franklin of Eureka (MASTERCHEF, THE BIGGEST LOSER), in partnership with John Brunton and Lindsay Cox of Insight Productions (THE AMAZING RACE CANADA, CANADIAN IDOL, THE JUNO AWARDS).

The Launch is executive produced by Scott Borchetta, Randy Lennox and John Brunton; Paul Franklin and Lindsay Cox are Showrunners and Executive Producers; Executive Producers for Bell Media are Robin Johnston and Corrie Coe, who is also Senior Vice-President, Original Programming, Bell Media. Pat DiVittorio is Vice-President, CTV and Specialty Programming, Mike Cosentino is President, Content and Programming, Bell Media. Randy Lennox is President, Bell Media.

The Launch is truly a new and unique format documenting a behind-the-scenes and in-studio look at what it takes to bring a new, original song to life in each hour-long episode, and it’s all shot in 48 hours. Each week the artists audition for the opportunity to record and perform the new original song written by a world-famous songwriter/producer and mentored by a panel of internationally renowned music industry legends. Immediately following the auditions, the mentors choose two artists to enter the recording studio and record the original song and prepare to perform it in front of a live audience. The mentors then choose which artist and recording will immediately be released across the country following the broadcast of the episode each week.

Celebrating Big Machine Sponsored 2017 IndyCar Series Champion Josef Newgarden

We recently were invited to attend the celebration at the beautiful, new FGL House of Big Machine sponsored IndyCar driver, Josef Newgarden. Newgarden just became the 2017 Indycar Series Champion.

Josef Newgarden is originally from Hendersonville, TN.  As Big Machine president/CEO Scott Borchetta said with a chuckle during the interview that night, they’ve had some “luck” with people from Hendersonville since Big Machine artist and the biggest selling singer currently in the world for the last few years, Taylor Swift, also hails from the same small town near Nashville.  Yes, I’ll say they have had some “luck”.  Must be something in the water there!

It’s easy to see why Borchetta, who is a big fan of racing, wanted to get behind Newgarden.  Borchetta has the uncanny ability to spot raw talent and, obviously, has had great success with those he has gotten behind like: Swift, Florida Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert, Midland, and Carly Pearce; just to name a few.  Newgarden is charismatic, articulate, and handsome with the steadfast and competitive nature that it takes to be successful in the sport of IndyCar racing.

Newgarden graciously took a few minutes from celebrating the win with the Big Machine team, his family and friends to talk with us.  He discussed his background and how he got to be an IndyCar driver. According to Newgarden, as a kid he was always into sports, playing baseball and basketball, but he was soon drawn to the sport of racing as “he became fasicinated by race cars, specifically, IndyCars” and, finally, “at the age of 13, he convinced his parents to drive him to Indianapolis, which was the closest place that had competitive go kart racing.”  It gave him an opportunity to start figuring out what that world was all about, and he started with competitive go kart racing; finding it was something he was good at.

See the video below for more with his full response:

Josef Newgarden also talked of his greatest obstacle he has had to overcome in his career so far.  He stated that persevering through the “longevity” it takes to break into the sport of racing has been the biggest challenge. That “it’s a difficult sport to break in to.”  He kept with it, obviously,  making quite a name for himself throughout the last few years in the highly-competitive sport.
