Looking for a fun day trip from Nashville to explore a bit of the countryside and explore something a little different? Cascade Hollow Distillery in Tullahoma, where they make George Dickel Whisky, might be just what you are looking for.
Just a little over an hour drive from Nashville nestled among the hills of the Cumberland Plateau, beautiful wooded countryside with fresh water flowing in Cascade Springs nearby is the picturesque Cascade Hollow Distillery where they have long made George Dickel Whisky since it was built in 1870 from their non-computerized distillery.
There is a rustic general store for visitors to peruse and purchase George Dickel souvenirs, enjoy a whisky tasting session, and get set to tour the beautiful distillery via a fun hayride that will take you all around the property.
You will see just how they make their smooth Tennessee whisky. The staff takes great pride in their traditional process and you will see that the process really has not changed since George Dickel himself first started making his famous whisky. They painstakingly make sure the whisky-making tradition that was began in the 1800’s is upheld to the highest of quality standards and that means patience to let the flavors develop over time in wooden barrels in Cascade Hollow. It is a long process, but something that the folks in Cascade Hollow take great pride in.
We had the pleasure of touring their beautiful, historic distillery recently enjoying a flavorful lunch where we passed food family style sitting on long wooden picnic tables as we thoroughly-enjoyed some mouthwatering southern comfort food prior to heading out on a fun hayride on a trailer being pulled behind a pickup truck as we took in the sights of the beautiful countryside and distillery where the famous whiskey is made. Afterwards, we enjoyed a whisky tasting session where our tour guide educated us about the whisky-making process and the flavors found in each distinct product. We enjoyed a special large group tour with Hotel Thrillist when they came to town. A regular tour does not include lunch.
Another thing to do at Cascade Hollow Distillery is to head out there when they host their fun Porch Sessions.
Porch Sessions is a special music series held at Cascade Hollow Distillery during the late spring, summer, and early fall months. You will have to watch our site or theirs for announcements when the next one takes place.
Usually happening on a Saturday, attendees can purchase a concert ticket off their website. You can bring your own chair, sit back taking in the surroundings, enjoy sipping on some George Dickel Whisky specialty drinks mixed by bartenders on-site, play some cornhole, local food trucks provide a good assortment of food for purchase to satisfy your hunger, and then enjoy some great live music by some of Nashville’s brightest up-and-coming artists.

The most recent one held in September featured British singer Lycie Silvas who just released her album, E.G.O., made her debut on the Opry stage, and a first-time performance on ABC’s Good Morning America last month. Silvas’ soulful, powerful vocals were set to original music that she penned with other well-respected songwriters in Nashville that is a nod to classic rock of the 70’s with a fresh twist of a contemporary sound. Concert-goers loved hearing and watching this rising star in the States who has already made quite a name for herself in the U.K. and amassed a large following across the pond.
Past Porch Sessions performances have included: Ashley McBryde, Chase Bryant, Paul Cauthen & The Texas Gentlemen, Pardi, Frankie Ballard, LOCASH, Maddie and Tae, and more. It always makes for a fun day out and well worth the price of the ticket.
We can not wait to see what they do next. Thank you for including us!
