Jordan Davis Celebrates First #1 Song “Singles You Up” At Fat Bottom Brewery

Pictured (l-r): Songwriter Steven Dale Jones, songwriter-artist Jordan Davis and songwriter Justin Ebach. Photo: Peyton Hoge

As “Singles You Up” (written with Steven Dale Jones and Justin Ebach) currently garners 200,000,000 streams, it is the most played song by a male artist on country radio in 2018 thus far and gains such quick momentum for a debut release, Jordan Davis is proving that he is one to watch with the success of his first UMG/MCA released project “Home State”, produced by Paul DiGiovanni.

The Louisiana native moved to Nashville with the hopes of being a songwriter, not necessarily wanting to be in the spotlight as an artist. Davis paid his dues, working as a bartender while building his catalog and seeking a publishing deal, ultimately securing a recording contract with Universal Music Group in 2016.
Davis continues to tour this summer extensively into the fall with Jake Owen and Chris Janson. When asked what he has gained through the experience, his response was: “I am always learning and standing on the side of the stage watching and taking notes, looking to see how I can make my live show better”.

Focus On The 615 asked Davis who his dream collaboration would be with, especially having the leverage of a #1 song on the charts. His answer was quick and confident:

“John Prine. I respect him so much! I came to Nashville as a songwriter first. John Prine is a storyteller and his career is one that I respect to the core”.

With Jordan Davis continuing to make his mark as an artist and songwriter, his goal to work with John Prine could possibly become a reality. That balance of authenticity and catering to country radio is one that Davis seems to easily combine. A combination destined for longevity in a constantly changing music climate.

This past Wednesday, Big Machine Label Group celebrated its newest platinum artist, Brett Young, with a California themed pool party.  Big Machine president, Jimmy Harnen, welcomed songwriters, industry executives, and a few lucky journalists to his house for a night of honoring Brett Young’s four platinum songs and his platinum album.

The PLATINUM milestones follow Young’s first three singles: “Sleep Without You” (PLATINUM), “In Case You Didn’t Know” (3X PLATINUM) and “Like I Loved You” (PLATINUM).  Brett performed the compelling tunes and offered a surprise preview of the first single off his upcoming sophomore album, “Here Tonight,” for his special guests.

After being greeted with “platinum” leis, guests were led to the backyard pool area, which was decorated with silver balloons and everything platinum.  Displays of Brett Young’s four platinum singles lined a walkway to a patio-turned-stage. The gazebo was transformed into a bar where party-themed cocktails like the “Mercy Mule” and “Los Angeles Lemonade” were available.  The food was catered by The Peg Leg Porker, and included all the BBQ necessities.  Randi Events was the official party planner.  Tiers of platinum cupcakes were the perfect dessert. The party also included a photo booth where guests captured themselves having fun and being silly.

“It was surreal being back where I first signed my record deal and seeing how much has happened since then,” Young said. “It’s crazy to think just three years ago I was in the same place just getting started with my team. I wrote this album from such a vulnerable and honest place, so it means the world that these songs have connected with people the way they have. The time has flown by, and I can’t wait to share the new music with fans soon.”

As the sun started to set, Brett Young took the “stage” and performed all 4 of his platinum songs. With the help of legendary musician and producer, Dann Huff, Brett rocked out and the two shared stories about Brett’s journey as a performer.  He thanked his songwriters, and producers, and let the guests in on some of the ups and downs he experienced along the way.  Brett Young ended his session with a new, up-tempo single that is coming on his second album.  After listening to the song, it is clear that Brett Young isn’t slowing down, and his second album may be even more successful than his first!

###

Brett Young’s “soothing, approachable” (New York Times) self-titled debut album became an instant success upon its release in 2017, dominating the Top 20 on the Country Albums chart for 37 weeks, quickly reaching RIAA PLATINUM Certification. Delivering four consecutive hits, Young became one of Country music’s new class of hitmakers as each single climbed to the top of the charts. Along with the success of his songs, Young’s music videos have added steam with “In Case You Didn’t Know” surpassing 194 million views and “Mercy” spending multiple weeks atop Vevo’s Top Country chart. Drawing in a devoted fan base with his unique voice that is “a gentle and seductive combination of silk and gravel” (All Access), Young has carved out his own lane in both performance delivery and songwriting. Named as the only Country act on Billboard’s Top 10 New Artists, Young continues to impress the genre and beyond with nominations from the ACM, Billboard, Teen Choice, CMT and CMA Awards. Above the industry successes, his relationship with fans found Young selling out every single stop on his debut headlining CALIVILLE TOUR and earning new followers on the road with Thomas Rhett’s LIFE CHANGES TOUR 2018. The Warner Sound During CMA Fest: High Valley And William Michael Morgan

I had the pleasure of attending two fan club parties as part of The Warner Sound last week from Warner Music Nashville’s roster:  High Valley and William Michael Morgan.

For the past few years, Warner Music Nashville has presented a full schedule of activities with their artists at an off-site location near the CMA Fest and now for the last two years at their office on Music Row.

Inside the tent for High Valley’s fan club party 2018.

I thoroughly-enjoyed going out to their office for a couple of days to enjoy High Valley and William Michael Morgan’s fan club parties.  It was a welcome reprieve from the massive crowd, far away parking, and the hot, humid temperatures outside at CMA Fest during that time.

The fan club parties were set out on their patio on the second floor with a large tent cooled with air-conditioning.   The tent held a nice-sized stage, lighting, and nicely-decorated for each fan club party.

On Thursday, High Valley performed 5 songs with a full band and entertained their fans with their bluegrass-infused sound blended with contemporary country and family harmonies from the two brothers.  Their songs are infectious and always bring such great energy to the stage that was fully-appreciated by their fans.  Prior to the show, fans were treated to pulled pork barbecue or grilled chicken, tossed salad, chips, chocolate chip cookie, and assortment of soda or bottled water to drink from Texas Roadhouse.

On Sunday, William Michael Morgan performed 5 songs acoustically playing guitar himself with another person playing guitar with him and singing harmony.  Morgan demonstrated his smooth, baritone vocals on his more traditional country songs to a enthusiastic crowd and paid homage to one of his favorites singing a cover from Tim McGraw.   Fans were able to enjoy a lunch of beef skewers, tossed salad, chocolate chip cookie, and assortment of soda or bottled water to drink from Texas Roadhouse.

After each performance, they held a meet and greet to meet with their fans who attended and take photos.

As an added treat inside the Warner Music Nashville office during the 4 days of CMA Fest, there was a special pop-up Waffle House in the lobby complete with booths preparing waffles and hashbrowns for free to guests.  Fans could also enjoy a cocktail from George Dickel Whisky outside on a deck there, I especially liked the frozen rose and frozen lemonade whisky cocktail they served, and Crown Royal hosted a lounge where they served some specialty drinks like a Coke and Vanilla Crown Royal cocktail.

All were there as sponsors of The Warner Sound and really created a nice, relaxing atmosphere that I could have easily stuck around to enjoy all day.

Thanks for allowing me to enjoy The Warner sound! Always a treat and highly-recommend buying tickets for next year to get up close and personal with many of Warner Music Nashville’s artists.  It’s such an enjoyable escape from the crowds and heat downtown.  They change it up each year, so you never know exactly what it will be, but it will always be nice no matter what.

This past Saturday, Big Machine Label Group and Florida Georgia Line held the DIG YOUR ROOTS Party celebrating three #1 hits in a row off their DIG YOUR ROOTS album, plus #1 hit, history-making collaboration with Bebe Rexha, “Meant To Be”, at the beautiful, trendy FGL House in downtown Nashville.  Inviting along the songwriters, collaborators, family, industry friends, and media to celebrate along with them.

Party-goers enjoyed a mimosa upon arrival, specialty drinks made with Big Machine Vodka, and an assortment of delicious brunch bites like scones, assorted muffins, fresh fruit on skewers, chicken & waffles, and much more.

Plaque presentations were made for #1 hits: “H.O.L.Y.”, “God, Your Mama and Me” (collaboration with the Backstreet Boys), “May We All” ,  and “Meant To Be”.

In attendance for the celebration were Florida Georgia Line, Backstreet Boys, Bebe Rexha, the songwriters, and Big Machine Label Group CEO Scott Borchetta.

Bebe Rexha joked that she thought she was writing with Little Big Town before she arrived at the songwriting session that her manager set up.  Upon arrival asking “where the other women were” to which everyone laughed and responded that “we’re it”.

The Backstreet Boys enjoyed celebrating along for their first #1 country hit and collaboration with Florida Georgia Line, who were also their tourmates last year.  Personally, I’d love to see a full-length collaboration album from them.  Such great musical chemistry!
