Music City Food + Wine Festival 2017: The Weekend In Review

I have been fortunate enough to experience the Music City Food + Wine Festival for 3 years in a row.  It is one of my favorite events that I look forward to all year long.

This year did not disappoint.  The festival stays true to its roots of remaining relatively small, upscale, catering to a crowd that enjoys tasting innovative gourmet food prepared by some of the most reknowned chefs in the country, and uniquely southern with a charm that is very Nashville.  Our city is absolutely booming with new restaurants popping up seemingly every week.  It’s no surprise that most chefs present were based right here in Nashville like from ‘Chopped’ fame, Chef Maneet Chauhun, who also owns one of our city’s best restaurants Chauhan Ale & Masala House.

Chef Chris Anderson was on hand in the grand tasting area to give festival goers a chance to taste some of what his new signature restaurant (name yet to be unveiled) inside the Hutton Hotel will have to offer once it opens in November.

Always a treat, brand ambassador for Hendrick’s Gin, Fred Parent, was present to teach festival goers how to make 3 delicious drinks using Hendrick’s Gin at a cocktail mixing class.  Afterwords, he was available at the fun 3-story Hendrick’s Gin bar on the festival grounds offering patrons a sambling of 2 tasty drinks and a beautiful fan to keep cool with.

The festival, held at both Bicentennial Park and Music City Walk of Fame Park, consisted of 3 days worth of fun-filled activities running from September 15th-17th that included food sampling, wine tasting, cooking demonstrations, cocktail mixing classes, and music.

Saturday night was Harvest Night held at the Music City Walk of Fame Park.  Guests were treated to more samplings of food, wine, and cocktails, followed by a high-energy, entertaining performance by The Family Stone.  Many attendees gathered to the front of the stage to dance the night away to this legendary group under the beautiful lights and enjoying the cool breeze on this wonderful fall night.

Sunday brought the Gospel Brunch featuring music by reknowned gospel singer, Gayle Mayes, with a choir singing some uplifting songs of praise.  Guests dined on many different brunch selections from several different chefs.  My favorite was from Chef Tim Love, which was a doughnut filled with chocolate, drizzled with caramel and pistachios on top.  I probably could have eaten a dozen of these, but my wasteline would have suffered even more!

One of my favorite things was getting to experience the 21c Museum Hotel, which is a beautiful, new boutique hotel in downtown Nashville opened this past spring.  The property includes the trendy Gray & Dudley restaurant and a museum of modern artwork throughout the property.  On Saturday and Sunday morning prior to the festival, I was invited to join some other members of the press with a light brunch catered by Gray & Dudley on the rooftop suite of the hotel.  The weather was absolutely beautiful, so it was a treat to relax prior to the festival starting, taking in the view of downtown Nashville from the rooftop patio, and nibbling on some tasty brunch foods while sipping on mimosas & bloody mary’s.

The whole weekend was perfection, and I’m already counting the days until next year’s festival to see what they have in store.  This festival, now in its 5th year, just keeps getting better and better with each passing year.
