MADE SOUTH: Holiday Market And Chef Tastings Event Returns To The Factory In Franklin
MADE SOUTH returns to The Factory at Franklin this year for its third holiday event on Friday, November 17, and Saturday, November 18. Shoppers can find artisan gifts of all kinds at the two-day event that will feature goods from more than 150 artisans and craftsmen from all over the South. Bites and drinks will also be provided by top local chefs and restaurants.
General admission tickets are available for purchase on the MADE SOUTH Eventbrite page for $15, or $20 at the door. VIP tickets are available for $39, offering guests a special sneak peek shopping experience complete with cocktails, local beers and special chef tastings on Friday night.
A portion of all ticket proceeds will benefit New Hope Academy, an elementary school located in Franklin, Tennessee, serving low-income families.
Pilgrimage Festival 2017: Wrap Up
On a normal Saturday in Franklin, Tennessee, you will see people checking out local produce at the Farmers Market. The Factory in Franklin will have a small crowd of people walking around and picking up unique gifts and maybe even making one at Third Coast Clay. This is not your normal Saturday in Franklin, that’s for sure.
An estimated 25,000 people from all over have swarmed in on this quiet town to attend The Pilgrimage Music and Cultural Festival. The now widely-known festival all started as a simple idea from festival co-creator and front man of the pop/rock band Better Than Ezra, Kevin Griffin. Griffin who is also a Franklin resident was on a jog just a few years ago when he passed by The Park at Harlinsdale, a century-old horse farm that sits on 230 acres of land. He envisioned not just a music festival, but an experience that would highlight the diverse musical artists, food, beer, wine, and art that is rooted in Middle Tennessee.
Going into the festival’s third year, they knew they had to make it bigger and that is exactly what happened when co-producer and newly-transplanted icon, Justin Timberlake, asked if he could perform. In what is one of Timberlake’s only musical appearances of 2017, he doubled the attendance of the previous year and he showed up ready to play for his new hometown!
Closing out the first night of the two-day festival which featured incredible performances I caught by The Avett Brothers, The Shadowboxers, Ruby Amanfu with Steelism, and many more, Timberlake walked out to 25,000 people on their feet and applauding before he sang his first note. Proving that he is a class act, Timberlake forewent a big show opener and instead covered Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come”, a prayer of sorts for the state that our country is currently in. With a bow of his head, Timberlake changed gears and ripped through hit after hit. From “Drink You Away” and “Suit & Tie” to his closing numbers, the monster hits “Can’t Stop This Feeling!”, “Sexy Back”, and “Mirrors”, Timberlake had even the coolest East Nashville hipsters singing every word; making it a point to tell the crowd several times how much he loves his home state of Tennessee and that his new hometown is Franklin. It was clear, however, that no matter how much he loves Tennessee, Tennessee loves him even more!
The evening was highlighted when he reunited with Chris and Morgan Stapleton for the first time since their CMA Awards show duet. Exchanging verses and taking turns doing each other’s background vocals on three of Stapleton’s songs. The trio’s harmonies were so flawless that Timberlake’s band, “The Tennessee Kids”, couldn’t stop shaking their heads and neither could the audience.
As the night drew to a close and Timberlake took his final bow, it was clear that The Pilgrimage Festival delivered exactly what they said they would, a unique family-friendly experience that was for everyone! As the crowd filtered out onto Franklin Pike, you could already hear people making plans to come back next year.
Tupelo Honey: Serving The Best Brunch In Franklin
This past weekend, I had the pleasure of eating a tasty brunch at Tupelo Honey in Franklin, just outside of Nashville. It serves a wide selection southern favorites with a delicious, unique twist.
The interior of Tupelo Honey is spacious, comfortable, and clean with modern decor. Outside there is also a nice-sized porch to enjoy dining on, as well.
Our service was excellent, both attentive and friendly. She was also kind enough to offer suggestions since it was my first time there.
First off, started the dining experience with homemade, fresh from the oven biscuits with homemade blueberry jam. The biscuits were fluffy, mouth-watering, and delectable. The jam was sweet, succulent, and the perfect pairing.
With such a tempting selection of unique drinks from the bar, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to endulge in one of their special drinks called cherry bomb frosé, an icy and refreshing blend of rosé, mint, lemon, maraschino liqueur, and bourbon cherry juice. This frozen drink was slightly tart and a terrific concoction. It was also so pretty, frozen, and pink with a small, artful swirl of darker pink on top, which was maraschino liqueur, served elegantly in a stemmed glass. Yes, it’s probably what you would call a “girly drink”, just as pretty as it was tasty, and one that I could easily sip on outside on their sizeable porch all day long enjoying the nice, quiet surroundings of the upscale area it is nestled in.
For the main course, I ordered the Tupelo shrimp and grits. My companion had the Creekstone Farms steak and eggs. We also shared some of their Shoo Mercy sweet potato pancakes.
The Tupelo shrimp and grits were perfectly seasoned. Served with an extra side of the flavorful, slightly hot Creole sauce to pour on top to season to taste for more spice. The shrimp were fresh, nicely-seasoned, and a good size. The grits, infused with adluh goat cheese, were flavorful and perfectly cooked. There was also a delicious mixture of chorizo and peperonata in the center. It was skillfully presented and this savory dish was positively scrumptious from the first bite to the last.
My companion had the Creekstone Farms steak & eggs. The steak was cooked to perfection, so tender you could cut it easily with just a butter knife. Served with sides of potato cracklins and maple bourbon bacon jam. It was tasty, perfectly paired, and mouthwatering.
The Shoo Mercy sweet potato pancakes were hot off the griddle, fluffy, and delightfully-tasty with just the right blend of sweet seasonings.
The menu is priced in the medium range up to low $20s for main dishes. Not cheap, but not overpriced, either. Serving portions were generous and all served piping-hot fresh from the kitchen very quickly with attentive, friendly service.
Tupelo Honey is a chain of restaurants across the country serving food all made in a scratch kitchen with a menu that changes with each season and is unique to that location. This location was opened only 2 years ago. Located near Cool Springs Mall in Franklin at 2000 Meridian Blvd. on the corner nestled within a new, modern strip mall area. Brunch is served only on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm. Operating hours are Monday to Thursday: 11a – 9p. Friday: 11a – 10p. Saturday: 9a – 10p . Sunday: 9a – 8p. It was named as best new restaurant in Franklin by Franklin Lifestyle Magazine in 2016.
Menus overseen by Chef Eric Gabrynowicz. He is a four-time James Beard Award semifinalist, Top Newcomer from Zagat was voted Food and Wine Magazine’s “Peoples Best New Chef- New York.” He brings Tupelo Honey Southern inspired dishes that are simply crafted and made from scratch with responsibly sourced ingredients that bring the best of every season.
Tyler Alford is the chief mixologist. He was born and raised in North Carolina and attended college in Mississippi, where his love of craft cocktails and mixology blossomed. Tyler honed his knowledge and skill while working at the award-winning Commander’s Palace Restaurant in New Orleans before bringing his passion to Tupelo Honey. He quickly introduced a beverage program focused on local, sustainable and quality products with classic techniques that has continued to earn Tupelo Honey multiple local and national awards for its cocktails rooted in the South.
This restaurant is defintely a new favorite of mine that I thoroughly enjoyed, and one that I will frequent as often as I can when in the Franklin area. I’m already craving their delicious brunch again after just a couple of days. It offers the best brunch in town in my opinion between the creative selection of tasty food, drinks, friendly staff, and welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend this dining establishment. Get ready to be pleasantly surprised by such a flavorful, creative menu of southern fare all made from scratch kitchen served fresh and fast.

Kings Bowl Cool Springs Featuring New Songwriters’ Night Every Tuesday
Kings Bowl is coming up on its 1 year anniversary in May, and we’re so happy it opened its doors just outside of Nashville. Starting this Tuesday, one of our favorite hang outs, is featuring their new “Top Songwriters Series” beginning at 7pm-10pm in their Whiskey Room every Tuesday night.

Admission is free and will be happening every Tuesday night starting at 7pm.
Plan to come out a little early or stay late, aside from the great music, you can also dine on their incredible food.
This is not normal bowling alley food. You can of course dine on a hamburger or pizza if you want, but everything is made from scratch in their kitchen and definitely worth a try in the Draft Room. You can dine on fresh salmon, steak, and scallops. Casual food or fancy, it’s your choice! Come hungry!

The family friendly festival also announced that the Little Pilgrim’s Family Stage will feature performances by Ralph’s World, The Happy Racers, Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers, Mr. Steve, Jazzy Ash & The Leaping Lizards, Casey Campbell and more. The Little Pilgrim’s area will not only feature performances by these top children musical acts but will also have interactive activities that will include: a painting wall; drum circles; a hip hop rhyming workshop; breakdancing demonstrations and workshop; a musical petting zoo featuring musicians from the bands demonstrating their instruments and special cameos by main stage acts! Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival is a two-day event transforming The Park At Harlinsdale Farm into an oasis of music, food, and culture set against the natural amphitheaters and vistas of this former walking horse farm located in Franklin, TN. Renowned musical acts, many performing acoustically, will be presented on wood-clad stages reflecting the area’s historic aesthetic including The Frye Company Harpeth River Stage. In addition to artists performing their own sets, Pilgrimage will feature Pilgri-mashupswhere one-of-a-kind pairings of musicians collaborate with one another on stage as well as the Kimbro’s Pickin’ Parlor stage featuring local artists. The region’s best food and drink will be on display as well as numerous local artists and artisans creating an all-encompassing festival experience.
The festival debuted last year with a star studded lineup featuring artists such as Willie Nelson, Wilco, Weezer, Sheryl Crow, Cage the Elephant, Band of Horses, Steven Tyler and more with 10,000 fans descending upon the Park at Harlinsdale Farm in Franklin each day.
