Dolly Parton Helps Distribute Final My People Fund Checks And Surprises Families With $5,000 Checks

Dolly Parton with foundation recipients.

The Dollywood Foundation administered the final distribution from the My People Fund on Thursday with recipients noticing an extra surprise when they received the check.

Thanks to fundraising efforts, Dollywood Foundation officials were able to provide a $5,000 check to each family as they work to recover from the Smoky Mountain wildfires which occurred last November. Beginning last December, the My People Fund provided $1,000 each month to Sevier County families whose primary residences were completely destroyed due to the fires.

In total, recipients received $10,000 as a hand-up to help start their rebuilding efforts following the fire. The fund, which was established by Dolly Parton, The Dollywood Company, Parton’s dinner theaters and The Dollywood Foundation, was supported by contributions from across the country, as well as donations made through the Smoky Mountains Rise telethon which took place in early December.

“The My People Fund has been a great success,” said Parton. “I want to thank my team, the Dollywood Foundation, my friends in the music business and the thousands of people from all over the country who opened both their pocketbooks and their hearts to help us.

“Over the last five months, we’ve given nearly 900 families $5,000 to help them recover. Yesterday, we had our last distribution and I went over to The LeConte Center to say thanks to all the volunteers and to help give out a few checks myself. We matched what they’ve received already with another $5,000 check. I know $10,000 can’t solve everything, but I do hope the money will help them to dream again.”

In addition to providing initial monetary support to displaced families through the monthly check distribution, the remaining funds from the My People Fund will continue to help the people of Sevier County. At least $3 million will be contributed to the Mountain Tough Recovery Team which will serve the continuing needs of residents during the critical rebuilding period ahead. This program will begin helping families on June 1.

“We’re still receiving money, so we aren’t finished yet,” Parton added. “Recovery will take some time, so a new organization—called Mountain Tough—has been created to help our people get back on their feet for the next three years. We’re giving at least $3 million to help this new organization begin the next chapter of our journey.”

Mountain Tough assists individuals and families recovering from the wildfires by providing resources for the unmet needs of low-income families and individuals in Gatlinburg and the surrounding Sevier County area. The team seeks to restore the quality of life and provide for the long-term needs of those affected.

“Mountain Tough will help pick up where the My People Fund left off,” Dollywood Foundation President David Dotson said. “They will be staffed with case managers who will work to identify the immediate needs of residents and our funds will be used to address those needs. For example, it may help with transportation so someone can continue to be employed, or it may help with medicine for conditions caused by the fire. The case managers will coordinate with county agencies to ensure needed assistance is not duplicated and achieves its maximum impact.”

Anyone who wants to help the Mountain Tough Recovery Team with their efforts should visit www.mountaintough.org for information on how to donate, how to volunteer and much more. The website is the official source for all information regarding the recovery effort.

Chris Stapleton’s New Album, “From A Room: Volume 1”, Available Now

★★★★ “From A Room is strikingly focused, sonically and thematically.”
—Rolling Stone

Chris Stapleton’s highly anticipated new album, From A Room: Volume 1, is out now on Mercury Records Nashville (available here).

Released to widespread acclaim, The New York Times recently profiled Stapleton and his wife and collaborator, Morgane Stapleton (read the full story here). Of the couple, The Times’ Jon Caramanica praises, “The dynamic between the two is one of country’s great treats, a vivid display of affection that elevates their music.” He goes on to assert, “Like Traveller, From A Room is earthen, rich with tradition, has a tactile intensity and is carefully measured.”

In celebration of the release, Stapleton will debut new music on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” this coming Monday, May 8 and will be a guest on Sirius/XM’s  “Howard Stern Show” on Tuesday, May 9. Stapleton also recently sat down with Beats 1 for an in-depth interview filmed at RCA Studio A. Watch the full interview here.

Additionally, “Chris Stapleton’s All-American Road Show” tour kicks off tonight with back-to-back sold out shows in Alpharetta, GA and will span throughout 2017 with ten additional shows announcing today. The new dates include performances in Houston, Dallas, Tampa and Omaha as well as a very special hometown show at Nashville, TN’s Bridgestone Arena on October 13. Exclusive Stapleton Fan Club pre-sales will begin next Tuesday, May 9 at 10:00am local time. For more information visit www.stapletonfanclub.com. Public tickets for the newly announced concerts begin Friday, May 12 at 10:00am local time. Live Nation is the national tour promoter for the “All-American Road Show.”

Citi® is the official credit card of the “All-American Road Show” tour. Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets through Citi’s Private Pass Program® beginning Tuesday, May 9 at 10:00am local. For complete presale details visit www.citiprivatepass.com.

Special guests for the extensive tour include Brothers Osborne, Lucie Silvas, Anderson East, Brent Cobb, Margo Price and Marty Stuart. Of a recent performance, the Seattle Times declares, “…Stapleton dazzled the sold-out crowd with a barrage of songs that defy easy categorization while receiving the kind of deafening cheers reserved for superstars.”

From A Room: Volume 1 is the first new music from Stapleton since 2015’s breakthrough double Platinum solo debut Traveller and will be followed by From A Room: Volume 2—coming later this year.

The album takes its name from Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A, where it was recorded during the winter of 2016-17. Once again produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb, Volume 1 features eight original songs as well as “Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning,” which was written by Gary P. Nunn and Donna Sioux Farar and made famous by Willie Nelson. Additional highlights on the album include the album’s first radio single, “Either Way.”

In addition to Stapleton on vocals and guitar and Cobb on acoustic guitar, the album features Morgane Stapleton on harmony vocals as well as longtime band-members J.T. Cure on bass and Derek Mixon on drums and musicians Mickey Raphael on harmonica, Robby Turner on pedal steel and Mike Webb on keys.

The May 5 release of Volume 1 comes exactly two years to the day since the release of Traveller. Released to immediate widespread critical acclaim, the album had one of the best-selling first weeks by a debut country artist in 2015. Following a historic turn on the 49th Annual CMA Awards—where Stapleton became the first artist to win Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year at the same awards – Traveller became the first album to re-enter the Billboard 200 all-genre album chart at No. 1, where it stayed for two straight weeks. The critically acclaimed album went on to win multiple Grammy and ACM Awards and was the #1 selling Country album of 2016 and the fourth-highest selling album of 2016 across all genres. Additionally, in the past two years, Stapleton has performed on multiple national TV shows including “Saturday Night Live,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and was profiled on “CBS News Sunday Morning.”

Before Lady Antebellum launches their YOU LOOK GOOD WORLD TOUR presented by NABISCO, the multi-PLATINUM trio will share weekly exclusive content with Rolling Stone Country leading into its kickoff in Bakersfield, CA on May 26th. Beginning May 1st, the multi-PLATINUM trio will prepare for 65 shows across six different countries with behind the scenes moments from tour rehearsals, a candid group interview and more alongside openers Kelsea Ballerini and Brett Young.

The series begins with an off-the-wall video installment as Lady Antebellum puts Ballerini and Young through the ringer in their mock-up boot camp. To watch, visit Rolling Stone here: http://www.rollingstone.com/country/news/see-lady-antebellum-train-for-upcoming-tour-in-goofy-video-w479709
As “Lady Antebellum has taken the music industry by storm for the last decade…they continue to dominate” (Albuquerque News Journal) even after taking time to pursue solo projects last year. The trio’s “renewed energy” (People) will be heightened on the road during their YOU LOOK GOOD WORLD TOUR, as “Lady Antebellum has a new spring in their step” (The Augusta Chronicle). They will also propel their universal appeal when they trek to South Africa for the first time, along with monumental stops in Europe.
With a new sense of history and possibilities, Lady Antebellum’s sixth studio album HEART BREAK (Capitol Records Nashville), out June 9th, had Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott on a new mission — setting aside time to put themselves in new surroundings, and concentrate on writing and exploring musical endeavors with no distractions. Alongside producer busbee, their desire to shake things was made evident by the record’s debut lead track and current single, “You Look Good,” as the “soul-infused single makes good use of horns,” (Washington Post). Additionally, the trio had a hand in writing eleven songs on HEART BREAK, resulting in their most intimate and heartfelt work to date. The new music follows more than 18 million units, nine No. One hits, ACM and CMA “Vocal Group of the Year” trophies three years in a row, and countless other honors including Billboard Music Awards, People’s Choice Awards and Teen Choice Awards. Maggie Rose To Release Anthemic New EP ‘Dreams > Dollars’ (May 19)

“Body On Fire” debuted via Spotify’s New Music Friday: spoti.fi/2p4hbpL

Check out a teaser here: bit.ly/2pesnMc

Praised as “what’s next in Nashville” by NPR, Maggie Rose will release her new EP ‘Dreams > Dollars’ on May 19. Fueled by love and loss and her own personal experiences with the two, Maggie penned and co-produced the five-song EP, showcasing her evolution into “one of country’s rising storytellers” (Washington Post).

In “Body On Fire” (available now via Spotify pre-order), the provocative lead-off single, Maggie’s sultry vocals set free the yearning urgency of requited love. A tender guitar intro builds to the lust-filled crescendo, “you don’t even need to try, you just set my body on fire!” It hits right in the solar plexus and you wait for it to happen again and again. Her explosive range empowers listeners to embrace their bodies and sexuality. Listen via Spotify here: spoti.fi/2p4hbpL

The remaining tracks on ‘Dreams > Dollars’ play as an exuberant, anthemic collection that delivers poignant clarity through her relatable stories of love, success and struggle. The EP’s first track, “Too Many Love Songs,” creates a not-so-picturesque image of the aftermath of a relationship. With references to Bob Dylan and Patsy Cline, the song is an anthem to the brokenhearted and quickly becomes a safe haven from unavoidable love songs. Title track “More Dreams Than Dollars” “exudes both confidence and vulnerability… [weaving the] tale of hope” (Rolling Stone Country) familiar to all struggling dreamers, while “I Won’t” sketches a voyeuristic take on love, pinpointing the dysfunction that arises from passion. The EP caps with “We’ll Grow Out Of It,” where Maggie capitalizes on a universally relatable theme post-2016 — trying to find your place in the world while watching it seemingly fall off the hinges.

“This project was simply the most natural, relevant next step for me. I’m so inspired by what I am most passionate about: the music I made and the people I love,” says Maggie. “I’ve never been more comfortable in my own skin than I am now, and I think this EP showcases that.”

Maggie is off to an amazing start in 2017. In addition to her 13-date run on Martina McBride’s CMT Next Women of Country Tour, she has landed her biggest direct-support dates yet. She’ll be heading out on the road with Hunter Hayes this Spring and will cap her Summer as direct-support on Tim McGraw & Faith Hill’s Soul2Soul tour. Maggie joins CMA Vocal Duo of the Year Brothers Osborne, GRAMMY-winning songwriter Lori McKenna, Margo Price and more as support.

Farewell Angelina To Perform At Kentucky Derby Event

Before the Mint Juleps flow and the call to post sounds at the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, Farewell Angelina will hit the stage to entertain guests at the Sixth Annual Unbridled Eve Derby Gala on Friday evening. Billed as a night of Southern grace, glamour, charm and hospitality at its finest, the black tie-optional event draws Louisville lovers, athletes, celebrities and racing enthusiasts to the historic Galt House Hotel from across the globe.
After sound check and a quick wardrobe change, the Farewell Angelina ladies will head to Churchill Downs to take in the Longines Kentucky Oaks, America’s premier and most lucrative race for 3-year old fillies – female horses – held each year on the day before the Kentucky Derby.
“Playing a Kentucky Derby event has been on our bucket list since we formed Farewell Angelina,” said the band collectively. “We can’t wait to spend the day at Churchill Downs and then play the Unbridled Eve Derby Gala.”
All of this fun helps a number of charitable causes, including the 2016 primary beneficiary, Blessings in a Backpack, an organization that fights childhood hunger by providing needy elementary school students a backpack of food on the weekends.
Following Derby weekend, Farewell Angelina will head east for dates in Asheville, Batesville-Leesburg SC, Birmingham, Charlotte, Toccoa GA and Isle of Palms SC before returning to Nashville for a date at the City Winery.
About Farewell Angelina: Farewell Angelina is an all-female country group featuring four powerhouse vocalists, dynamic songwriters and badass multi-instrumentalists. Together their magic blend of a multitude of stringed instruments, two blazing violins, and unique harmonies have taken Nashville by storm, and that enthusiasm is now spreading via word-of-mouth, social media, and live shows that bring down the house. They were recently named as one of Taste of Country’s RISERS, which spotlights the top new artists of 2017, and Rolling Stone listed them as one of their “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know.”

ACM Awards Male Vocalist of the Year THOMAS RHETT is giving fans a glimpse of a different side of himself with the official music video for “Craving You” featuring Maren Morris, out now. Shot in the style of an action-packed movie trailer over the course of two days in Nashville, Thomas Rhett and Morris take fans on a wild ride with a twist ending that director TK McKamy describes as “Jason Bourne meets Oceans 11 meets Snatch.”

“There are a lot of crazy action scenes – a lot of firsts for me in general in this video,” said Thomas Rhett. “I’ve always wanted to get to do a fight sequence and play a tough guy, but I think Maren definitely shows me up! TK really pushed us both since we’d never really acted before.”
