Nashville Film Festival Celebrates A Record Breaking 45th Year

Nashville Film FestivalNashville Film Festival (NaFF) celebrated its 45th Anniversary this week with an incredible week of film in two locations. For the first time ever, the festival presented more than 250 films from over 50 countries, further cementing its record-breaking year.

“This has truly been a spectacular year for the Nashville Film Festival presented by Nissan. It was our first year with 10 days of film at Regal Cinemas Green Hills and 9 days of events at our outdoor NaFF Cinema at Walk of Fame Park in Downtown Nashville”, shared Ted Crockett, Executive Director of the Nashville Film Festival.

With over 42,000 in attendance between both locations, the festival has exceeded last year’s total festival attendance by over 40%. The free NaFF Cinema at Walk of Fame in Downtown Nashville presented films for 9 days throughout the festival on its brand new 30′ outdoor screen. “We are already planning new and exciting ways to feature films to the public in outdoor settings in the months and years to come,” said Crockett.Nashville Film Festival

Film submissions also broke records this year, with over 3100 entries from 125 countries. NaFF Artistic Director, Brian Owens, had the thrill of working with some of the world’s leading directors and production houses, to bring over 15 World and North American Premieres, along with 17 Southeast Premieres to NaFF this year.

Of the more than 250 competition films, Owens said, “There were so many great films in our competition this year, that the juries had a difficult time picking the Grand Jury Prizes in each division.”

Major award winners included, the beautiful and moving documentary, Glen Campbell…I’ll Be Me, by award winning Director, James Keach and The Ballad of Shovels and Rope by Jace Freeman and Sean Clark of Nashville-based production house, The Moving Picture Boys. The Freedom to Choose Southwest Airlines Audience Award for Best U.S. Narrative went to The Identical by first-time Director, Dustin Marcinello starring Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd and newcomer Blake Rayne. Nashville Film Festival

The NaFF Red Carpet was an active scene nearly every night of the festival with stars of film, television, and music. Throughout the festival, appearances were made by Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd, Seth Green, Sharon Lawrence, Beth Grant, Béla Fleck, Naomi Judd and the family of Country music legend, Glen Campbell, among other notables.

Academy Award winning Director, Daniel Junge, notable independent film director Megan Griffiths, award winning director James Keach, and provocative filmmaker Dito Montiel also made appearances in support of their films screening at NaFF.

Nashville Film FestivalIn addition to the competition films and the many special presentations, the first annual Screenwriters Competition garnered more than 1500 entrants. “Our First Annual Screenwriters Competition was such an incredible success and we look forward seeing some of these incredible artists’ works on the big screen soon,” shared Crockett.

After more than 300 different screenings over the past 10 days and record attendance, the 45th Anniversary festival marked a pivotal year of success that will continue to allow the festival to bring films to the big screen that celebrate the visions and voices of the human spirit. Plans for the 2015 Nashville Film Festival are already underway, with dates scheduled to be announced in June 2014.

Eric Church Puts Scalpers On Notice In Minneapolis

Eric ChurchTickets are selling quickly for all shows on the first leg of Eric Church’s recently announced and highly anticipated “The Outsiders World Tour” with special guest Dwight Yoakam, and fans are encouraged to make their purchases now in order to guarantee a seat for what will undoubtedly be one of the hottest concert tours of 2014.

Eric ChurchOver 14,000 tickets have been sold since Friday at Target Center in Minneapolis making it one of the hottest stops on the first set of announced dates. In fact, currently only a small number of seats directly behind the stage—unofficially coined “The Choir Loft”—in the upper bowl remain for Minneapolis fans who want to purchase seats for Church’s Sept. 16 show. However, that will change momentarily this afternoon (Apr. 25) at 5:00 PM/CDT, as 902 tickets have been identified as being purchased by scalpers that were in violation of the sales limits of the show. Those ticket orders have been cancelled, and the 902 tickets will be put back into the system for sale at that time.

“A lot of acts just want to sell as many tickets as they can and they don’t care who they sell them to,” said Church, a long-time foe of ticket scalping. “I want my fans to be the ones who buy tickets to my shows, and I want scalpers to back off. I can’t stop ticket scalpers completely, but I can definitely make it harder for them.”

All ticket orders for Church’s “The Outsiders World Tour” will be scrutinized to combat scalping as much as possible so that the fans can have the best opportunity to see the concert for the originally intended price.

Opening the tour on different dates throughout the first leg will be rising country music duo Brothers Osborne, critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Brandy Clark, or the hard rocking band Halestorm.  For ticket dates and information, visit www.ericchurch.com.

Carrie Underwood Named To The TIME 100

TIME has named six-time Grammy winner Carrie Underwood to the TIME 100, its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.  The full list and related tributes appear in the May 5 issue of TIME, available on newsstands and tablets on Friday, April 25, and now at www.time.com/time100.
Carrie will also headline a performance as part of the TIME 100 Gala to be held on April 29 at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.  The black-tie dinner will include present and past recipients of most influential list.  Previous guests have included Pres. Bill Clinton, Justin Timberlake, Oprah Winfrey, Carlos Slim, Amy Poehler, Gabrielle Giffords, Steven Spielberg and many more.
The TIME 100 features pairings of the influentials and the guest contributors TIME selects to write about them.  Carrie’s longtime friend Brad Paisley serves as the guest writer for her profile in this year’s issue.  He shares, “Not only has she earned her place [in country music], she’s raised the bar: a prolific songwriter, a trend-setter, and an Opry member.  But it’s her decency as a person that is so impressive.”
The list, now in its 11th year, recognizes the activism, innovation and achievement of the world’s most influential individuals.  As TIME has described the list in the past, “The TIME 100 is not a list of the most powerful people in the world, it’s not a list of the smartest people in the world, it’s a list of the most influential people in the world. They’re scientists, they’re thinkers, they’re philosophers, they’re leaders, they’re icons, they’re artists, they’re visionaries.  People who are using their ideas, their visions, their actions to transform the world and have an effect on a multitude of people.”
Follow @TIME for updates about the list on Twitter and at Facebook.com/TIME.
