Song Review: Sarah Darling | “Little Umbrellas”

Sarah DarlingSarah Darling’s new single “Little Umbrellas” is a catchy, uptempo summer anthem showing the fun and flirty side of Darling.   It’s managed to stay on repeat in my cd player for the last 2 days.  I can’t seem to get enough of it, because it’s just that catchy that you’ll want to hear it over and over again.

Think Sarah Darling meets Jimmy Buffett, and there you have what this song is like.  Darling sings about escaping from a recent breakup to enjoy a little summer sun, fun and drinking a few of those drinks that are adorned with “little umbrellas”.

Check it out in the video below and I dare you NOT to hit repeat!

Song Review: Joe Nichols “Sunny And 75”

Joe Nichols never disappoints and with this new single “Sunny And 75”, I’m sure there are plenty of new fans that he’ll make because of it.

“Sunny And 75” is an instant hit in my book. It’s upbeat, catchy, well-written, and with the undeniably strong voice of Nichols, fans are sure to love this one.  It has a sound that both traditional and contemporary country fans alike will enjoy.

Rated 4 out of 5 stars.

Album Review: JJ Lawhorn ‘Original Good Ol’ Boy’

JJ LawhornAverage Joe’s country artist JJ Lawhorn has just released his new 13-track album entitled ‘Original Good Ol’ Boy’ produced by Jeremy Stover and executive producer, Shannon “Fat Shan” Houchins.

To be honest, there was only one track on the entire album that I enjoyed.  It was a surprisingly touching song at moments, but with a little too much cheesiness for my taste called “Good Ol’ Boys Like Us”.  I liked the melody of this one, but even it made me cringe a little because of the lyrics with all of the references of good ol’ boys, pickup trucks, and slinging mud as it talked about what Heaven would be like for good ol’ boys aka rednecks.  Continue Reading →

Song Review: “Any Day Is A Good Day” By Amber Hayes

Amber Hayes“Any Day Is A Good Day” sung by Amber Hayes and written by Amber Hayes, Bill DiLuigi and JP Williams is a soft, traditional country ballad.  Hayes’ strong, controlled vocals combined with the thoughtful lyrics and the scaled-back production create a very pleasing song to the listener.  I especially enjoyed the infusion of the steel guitar throughout the song–sadly you don’t hear it quite enough for my taste in many country songs any more.  Continue Reading →

Song Review: “I Love You That Much” By Lizzie Sider

“I Love You That Much” is the new song by up and coming country artist Lizzie Sider.  I like the overall musical composition of this power ballad, and feel that it has rich production qualities.  Lizzie has a pleasant voice, as well.  I wasn’t completely blown away by this song, but I feel that it is a good song, just something about it didn’t completely grab me as a listener.  I did not feel that it had a strong enough hook to hold my attention.

Rated 3 out of 5 stars.

Album Review: Trace Adkins’ ‘Love Will…’

Trace AdkinsFans of that smooth, deep baritone voice that can only belong to Trace Adkins won’t be disappointed in the newest release to hit stores entitled ‘Love Will…’.

This 11-track album has an overall theme that shows a little softer side of the country hitmaker, and still leans towards a more traditional country sound that you’ve come to expect from Trace.

My favorite off the album is the poignant ballad featuring Colbie Caillat called “Watch The World End”; a song about two lovers lamenting over what they would do if the world was coming to an end.  I, also, thoroughly enjoyed “Come See Me”; another ballad that will have all the ladies swooning as Trace sings “just let me be your everything.  Come see me.  I want to love you.” Continue Reading →

Album Review: Rose Falcon’s ’19th Avenue The EP Volume 2′

Rose_19aveEP2.1

New country artist Rose Falcon just released her 5-song EP entitled ’19th Avenue The EP Volume 2′ with Show Dog Universal Music.   Overall, it’s a decent effort.  Rose’s voice is slightly airy with a stronger than usual nasally tone combined with a bit of grittiness–the best I can describe it.  Very similar to artists like Lucinda Williams, so to me her voice is a little more folk/Americana rather than country.  She doesn’t necessarily sound like every artist out there, which is a good thing when you are trying to stand out.  I’m kind of on the fence about this one.  I don’t absolutely love it, but I don’t hate it, either.  Just middle of the road for me.

Lyrically, I feel the songs are well-written and there is strong composition/structure musically.  However, none of the songs really wowed me, but I enjoyed “Carry Me Home”–a mid-tempo song with more of a traditional country feel to it with lots of fiddle added in.   I, also, enjoyed “If Love Had A Heart”, which is mid-tempo, heartfelt ballad.  I really liked this one, which I felt was the most radio-friendly of all the songs, and thought it was a good fit for her voice.

Song Review: “I Just Want You To Know” By Amy Rose

Independent country artist Amy Rose has a hit on her hands with her newest single “I Just Want You To Know”.   The song is a mid-tempo power ballad propelled by the powerful vocals of Amy Rose that are reminiscent of such artists as Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood.  This song is radio-friendly with well-written lyrics and displays her powerful voice all the way through.  Most impressive is the 11 second note that she was able to sustain near the end of the song demonstrating her remarkable vocal prowess.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars.

Album Review: ‘Faster Than A Bullet’ By Plumb

Plumb

What can I say except that from the moment I first heard Plumb I found her music mesmerizing.  Beautiful, strong, almost otherworldly voice matched with songs that touch you deep inside and move you.  You’ll hear lots of string instruments mixed with her signature keyboard-driven music.  Sometimes dark, slightly-edgy, poetic, and melodic songs that are a mix of radio-friendly pop & alternative rock.   Her music always moves me.  I think Plumb is one of the most talented artists out there and highly-underated.  She should be winning GRAMMY’s for her music.
