(August 25, 2012-Nashville, TN)—The Fourth Annual Music City Festival & BBQ Championship, held at downtown Nashville’s Riverfront Park and Lawn at Riverfront on Friday and Saturday (Aug. 24-25), was a huge success. Despite an unpredicted thunderstorm that sat over downtown for several hours on Saturday afternoon, thousands of fun-loving fans turned out over the two days for great entertainment by The Fabulous Thunderbirds featuring Kim Wilson, country star David Ball and The Pioneer Playboys and Grand Funk Railroad, a kids zone, old-fashioned beer garden and car show..
On the other side of the festival, the historic battle of BBQ pitmasters raged on as throngs of curious onlookers watched teams artfully prepare their presentations for judgment.
“BBQ armies to the north, south, east and west amassed on the banks of the Cumberland River and downtown Nashville, TN. While history records no real fighting, it does reveal that participants from the many camps devoured scores of swine, chicken and bovine during this tasty engagement. After several days, these armies broke camp and disappeared into the smoke with plans for returning the following year for more food and fun.” –Fatback’s Head Storyteller, Doug Watson.

This year’s Music City Festival & BBQ Championship benefited the Wounded Warrior Project as well as the Shriners Hospitals for Children, with high-ranking Shriner officials Tim Mason and Randy Slaypak from the Board of Governors of Cincinnati, David Wantland and Chris Johnson from the Board of Governors of Lexington, and Jim Cain, Shriners International Board of Directors, in attendance.
