Nashville Ballet Presents Lizzie Borden And The Raven For Halloween

Nashville Ballet Explores Lizzie Borden’s Infamous Murder Case this Halloween
Lizzie Borden Paired with World Premiere of The Raven

Nashville Ballet will present a haunting double feature of original works just in time for Halloween—the long-awaited return of Lizzie Borden based on the infamous double murder and the world premiere of The Raven inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s poem—October 26-28, 2017, at TPAC’s Polk Theater.

Nashville Ballet Artistic Director & CEO Paul Vasterling’s Lizzie Borden examines the real-life double murder case of 1892 in Fall River, Massachusetts. Lizzie Borden was famously accused, tried and acquitted for the brutal ax murders of her father and stepmother in a case that remains one of the most controversial and sensationalized in American history.

“Because Lizzie Borden was acquitted and no one was ever charged for the murders, endless speculation still surrounds the case that makes it as fascinating as ever,” Vasterling said. “I have my own theories about what may have happened in the Borden household on the day of the murders, and leading up to it. This ballet explores the dark backstory and delves into the mind of Lizzie Borden—taking place in her memories—to show that there may be more to the story than meets the eye.”

Lizzie Borden has remained a fixture in American culture for more than a century as the subject of popular books, movies, television shows and even a well-known children’s rhyme (“Lizzie Borden took an ax…”). Nashville Ballet’s version was originally presented in 2006, and this time around will feature a newly commissioned score by English composer Philip Feeney along with updates to the choreography. Unique to this version, Vasterling explores the phenomenon of “shadow people,” ghostlike figures often attributed to the presence of the supernatural, who influence Lizzie Borden throughout the ballet.

Lizzie Borden will be complemented by the world premiere of Nashville Ballet company dancer Christopher Stuart’s The Raven. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s famous poem, the ballet follows a mysterious raven that ultimately drives a heartbroken lover into madness. The brand-new work will feature a classical score by Hungarian composer Franz Liszt.

Lizzie Borden with The Raven is presented by STF Events & Catering and Lightning 100. Tickets start at $35 and can be purchased in person at the TPAC box office in downtown Nashville, by phone at (615) 782-4040 or at NashvilleBallet.com. A complete performance schedule and more information can be found at NashvilleBallet.com/Lizzie-Borden. Viewer discretion is advised; this production contains mature content.

10-DVD Collection CMA Awards Live: Greatest Moments 1968-2015 Available For The First Time Ever

Time Life in conjunction with the Country Music Association is proud to announce the upcoming release of CMA Awards Live: Greatest Moments 1968-2015, an extensive 10-DVD set of many of Country’s musical moments that have made history over the years. Time Life will begin taking pre-orders Wednesday, Oct. 11, with a 30-minute infomercial promoting the package airing throughout the fourth quarter of 2017. CMA Awards Live will be officially released to retail early next year.

Since 1968, millions of Country Music fans tune in each year to the CMA Awards to see which of their favorites walk away with the most coveted awards in the industry. In addition to the presentation of the yearly accolades to the biggest stars in the Country format, the yearly telecast is famous for historic performances and collaborations – many of which are the first time legendary songs were featured on television. Outside of their original airings, these performances have never been commercially available.

The set includes 127 performances from five decades of the nationally-televised ceremony, with performances from many of the premiere artists in the genre – Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Barbara Mandrell, Buck Owens and Kenny Rogers – all of which helped define the sound that brought popular appeal to Country Music.

CMA Awards Live: Greatest Moments 1968-2015 features unforgettable moments from the artists who have nurtured the sound over the past decade and taken the music to new heights, like Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Keith Urban.

Besides the performances, the set also includes bonus features and interviews with artists who have performed – and won – on the telecast over the years, including Naomi Judd and Charley Pride, as well as the last interview with the longest-serving CMA Executive Director, Jo Walker Meador, and CMA’s current Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern. Other moments include:

• Merle Haggard’s performance of the iconic “Okie From Muskogee,” the Single of the Year from 1970 – the same night that he was named CMA Entertainer of the Year.

• Dolly Parton and Kenny Roger’s riveting performance of “Islands In The Stream,” which opened up the 1983 telecast – the same year that the song topped the Country and Pop charts throughout the world.

• Alan Jackson’s 2001 world premiere performance of “Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)” which captivated America following the tragic 9/11 attacks.

• CMA Entertainer of the Year winners Brooks and Dunn (1996) and Reba McEntire (1986) performing a passionate version of “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” in 2008.

• Alan Jackson and George Strait’s tender tribute to George Jones following his passing in 2013 with a soaring version of “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” a CMA Single and Song of the Year winner from 1980.

And, speaking of collaborations, there are plenty in the collection, like once-in-a-lifetime pairings of artists Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette, from 1993 performing “Silver Threads and Golden Needles,” and an incredible performance from Miranda Lambert, Loretta Lynn, and Sheryl Crow of Lynn’s signature “Coal Miners’ Daughter” from 2010.

CMA Awards Live: Greatest Moments 1968-2015 also features many performances from some of music’s biggest stars from outside of the format, including Jimmy Buffett, Rita Coolidge and Lionel Richie. Also included with the collection is a 44-page collectible booklet featuring Award winners and the history of the CMA Awards shows.

Brown’s Deluxe Edition of
Self-Titled Debut is Available Everywhere Now

Country star Kane Brown’s Platinum-certified “What Ifs” featuring Lauren Alaina takes the #1 slot this week on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and puts an end to Sam Hunt’s hold on the #1 position after 34 consecutive weeks. #2 on Billboard’s country airplay, on demand audio streams and digital country song charts, Brown’s hit single has momentum yet to crest.

Released officially October 6th, Kane Brown’s Deluxe Edition of his self-titled debut album is available everywhere now. Country’s best-selling new-artist debut of the past two years, the album now includes four additional songs on the deluxe version and is trending #1 on the iTunes country chart, as has every album, EP, single and instant grat track Brown has ever released.

About Kane Brown

Even before signing his record deal in early 2016, rising star Kane Brown had already established a passionate online following in the millions.  Almost immediately, the RCA Nashville/Zone 4 singer/songwriter was making chart history with the release of Chapter 1, which became the highest-debuting country EP of the Nielsen SoundScan era and featured the RIAA Gold-certified “Used to Love You Sober.”  His Kane Brown full-length released in December 2016, debuting at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums and Top 10 on the Billboard 200 all-genre chart. Kane Brown also claimed the #4 spot as the best-selling new-artist album debut of 2016, in any  genre. The October 6, 2017 release of the 15-song Kane Brown Deluxe Edition builds on that success with four new tracks including “Setting the Night on Fire—a duet with Brown’s hero and RCA labelmate Chris Young—and “Found You,” a track that entered Billboard ’s Country Digital Song Sales chart at #1.  Earlier this year, Brown impressively earned his first ACM award nomination as New Male Vocalist of the Year, as well as a CMT Music Awards Breakthrough Video of the Year nod for “Used to Love You Sober.”  In addition to headlining his own series of sold-out tour dates, Brown was tapped for Florida Georgia Line’s 2016 summer tour and is currently a special guest on Jason Aldean’s They Don’t Know Tour.  Beyond his flourishing music career—and inspired by his personal experiences and a desire to lend his voice as a platform—Brown recently partnered with Make Room, the nation’s leading organization addressing the rental housing crisis in the U.S.   www.kanebrownmusic.com
