Album Review: Maren Morris | Self-Titled EP

Maren MorrisSoulful country songbird Maren Morris just released her debut self-titled 5-song EP.  Morris co-wrote and co-produced every song on this release.

I fell in love with this EP from the moment I first heard it, and it has been on repeat ever since.  In two words, I would describe her music as having an “infectious groove”, and I can’t get enough of it. Morris’ soulful, gritty style is best displayed on the mid-tempo “My Church”, and my personal favorite.  You’ll feel like you’ve just been taken to church on this one! No preaching, I promise! Can I get an amen that her songwriting does not include trucks or beer? I would describe her as soulful, gritty, and edgy.  Another favorite of mine is “I Wish I Was”, another mid-tempo with a style reminiscent of music great Eric Clapton.  Loved the carefree groove of  “Company You Keep”, too.  My only complaint? This album was too short for me.  I want to hear more from Maren Morris!

You can catch her live on the road now with Charles Kelley where she shines best.  She’s one to watch for the upcoming year.
