For three days only, Les Paul’s Big Sound Experience exhibit will be staged outside the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum. It will allow visitors to step into 1,000 square feet of entertaining and interactive experiences, focusing on Les Paul and his many contributions to musical innovation. You will explore sound, music, and technology inventions; discover Les Paul’s personal story; and marvel at the performing techniques that made him a legendary pop music icon.

Les Paul, who would have turned 100 years old this past June, is known as the father of the solid body electric guitar as well as modern music. Les was born in 1915 in Waukesha, WI and was always extremely interested in how music was made. He taught himself how to play the guitar and harmonica when he was young, and his first gig was playing guitar with The Scalawags for a radio station in St. Louis, MO.
In 1941, Les created his first solid-body electric guitar, and continued to make refinements over the next decade. It’s likely that rock and roll music would not exist the way we know it today without this invention. He also experimented with sound recording which helped to develop overdubbing, tape delay, phasing effects, and multitrack recording.
