On the anniversary of the Big Machine Label Group’s first press conference in 2005 introducing inaugural artists such as Taylor Swift, President/CEO Scott Borchetta highlights the importance of music. BMLG celebrated 10 years strong as a part of the Nashville music community today by making a $100,000 donation to Music Makes Us, one of the music industry and Mayor Karl Dean’s top initiatives to “strengthen traditional school music while adding a contemporary curriculum.”
“It hit me like a ton of bricks about five years ago as we really started to become an industry leader,“ said Borchetta. “We were doing good but we needed to do better. I have no problem putting up the assets and the belief from Big Machine if there is real a return on our investment. Mayor Karl Dean’s visions continue to show a return, making sure that music stays in the schools.”

Students from the downtown Hume-Fogg school were invited to the SiriusXM Theater to personally experience how their hometown supports music education. Also in attendance were Chris Henson (Interim Director of Schools), Dr. Jay Steele (Chief Academic Officer), Dr. Nola Jones (Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts), Nancy Shapiro (The Recording Academy Senior VP | Music Makes Us Advisory Council Member). Fletcher Foster (Iconic Entertainment CEO | Music Makes Us Advisory Council Chair), Anna Shepherd (Board of Education | Music Makes Us Advisory Council Member), Dr. Aimee Wyatt Dr. Antoinette Williams (Executive Officer, Middle Schools), Dr. Vanessa Garcia Dr. Kelly Henderson (Executive Director of Instruction) and several BMLG staff members.
Nashville natives The Cadillac Three frontman Jaren Johnston spoke about their full circle moment having attended Metro Schools saying, “We grew up here. Kelby and I went to your school and Neil was down the road at Hillsboro so we know what’s it’s like to have a passion for music.” The Grammy-nominated hitmaker continued, “Keep on doing what you’re doing, it’ll pay off in one way or another.”
Winner of The Voice Danielle Bradbery, who signed to the Big Machine Records imprint in 2013 and landed in the Top 5 with her self-titled debut album, treated students to an acoustic performance. The petite powerhouse will earn her first spin of her brand new single during the exclusive radio world premiere on Buzz’s show. “Friend Zone” is available now on iTunes and fans are quickly pushing the Top 20 tune up the charts.
SiriusXM The Highway host Buzz Brainard invites Borchetta, Reba, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, The Band Perry, Thomas Rhett, Justin Moore, Eli Young Band, Cassadee Pope, RaeLynn, Bradbery, The Cadillac Three and Waterloo Revival on-air today from 4:00 – 7:00P ET to share memories and songs. They will go back into the vault, playing back portions from the first Big Machine interview in 2005 featuring the flagship roster, and discussing the future of the industry and why #MusicHasValue.
