Kenny Chesney’s graced more People covers than any current Country artist. Over the years, the entertainment weekly’s followed his evolution as an artist, an activist and a man. With the success of The Big Revival deemed “The People’s Superstar” wrote an in-depth feature on his female-affirming “Wild Child,” his 27th #1.
When it was time to find a partner to debut “Save It For A Rainy Day,” People seemed a natural fit. Not only for the length of the relationship, but the message the song contains.
“I think the biggest thing that binds us all together,” Chesney says, “is the way life stacks up, things go wrong and you sorta lose your perspective. I live in a world of responsibility, I think we all do – so you can be so busy figuring out what you did wrong or why it’s your fault, you miss the beauty of the world, how great life really is! Whatever’s wrong isn’t going anywhere… don’t worry. But that great sunset? Your friend’s big accomplishment? Just getting out on the lake on a pretty day? Those things don’t last; they’re moments and they’re meant to be enjoyed. To me, the people reading People understand that, so what better place to go?”
People.com will go live with the video at 8:00 a.m ET tomorrow, July 9. They will not only have a 48-hour window of exclusivity for the clip that captures Chesney’s outlook in action, they will also feature content about the clip in this week’s magazine. Following three straight #1s from The Big Revival, it was important to Chesney his new single represent the spirit of the No Shoes Nation, as well as feel good on a hot summer day.
“I’ve been blessed with all kinds of songs,” he says. “From something as innovative as ‘American Kids,’ as the tempo of ‘‘Til It’s Gone’ to the get-people-to-listen ballad of ‘Wild Child,’ that really celebrates how women are, my fans want to go different places and experience all the moments life has to offer. This time, I figured here’s a song that reminds everybody it’s how you see things, and I loved that about ‘Save It For A Rainy Day.’”
Written by Andrew Dorff, Matt Ramsey and Brad Tursi, “Save It For A Rainy Day” corners on a chiming acoustic guitar, a loping beat and a vocal that’s intimate, yet resolved. With a chorus that proclaims, “The sun’s too bright, the sky’s too blue/ beer’s too cold to be thinking about you/ Gonna take this heartbreak, tuck it away/ Save it for a rainy day…,” the latest single – and brand new video – is a real attitude adjuster.
Playing 23 stadiums this summer as part of his Big Revival Tour, the onlyBillboard’s Top 10 Touring Acts of the Last 25 Years sold over a million tickets before the first note was even played. And the momentum has continued – Chesney broke his own attendance records at Pittsburgh and Green Bay’s stadiums. With shows at Cleveland’s The Q on July 9 and a massive play at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field July 11, the high energy entertainer The Dallas Morning News labeled, “Two parts Mick Jagger, one part Bruce Springsteen, one part Billy Graham.” is in the thick of perhaps his biggest summer ever. He will also be the first country act to headline Pasadena’s Rose Bowl July 25.
