It was an unlikely path that led big-voiced singer/songwriter Katie Ohh into the studio with Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus. At a young age, the Ohio native fell in love with singing and by her teens had logged numerous appearances at clubs, fairs, festivals, and the granddaddy of outdoor country music festivals, Jamboree In the Hills. After graduating from nursing school at age 19, Katie moved to Los Angeles to develop her songwriting, sing demos, and play the occasional local show.
One of her YouTube clips caught the attention of a producer of “The Winner Is,” an NBC TV summer replacement singing competition series hosted by Nick Lachey, and it led to an invitation to audition for theshow. Katie won “The Winner Is” competition (which was also the highest debuting new show that summer) and the $1 million prize in late ’13, shortly after moving to Nashville where she worked as an ER nurse by day while devoting her off-time to performing and songwriting.
Katie has signed with John Birdwell and Charles Dorris at Red Couch Entertainment, with Barrett Sellers at WME, and she’s currently in the studio with Jay DeMarcus producing.
