While most people will recognize Sarah Davidson from TNT’s ‘Private Lives Of Nashville Wives’ and/or as being the ex-wife of hit songwriter Dallas Davidson, she is also a very talented singer/songwriter in her own right.
With the release of her 5 track self-titled country EP on on March 25th, Sarah gives a glimpse into who she is as an artist. Who she IS an as artist is someone who is authentic, empowering, and talented. Now, I could go on and write more about her here, but you will just have to wait for the full interview that I will be posting in the next couple of days when I had a chance to sit down with her to discuss music and learn more about who she is. Check back for that! Right now, I will just discuss this new EP.
It’s interesting because even though it’s only 5 songs, I can really see the journey that she has made through her music she shared on this EP. These are songs that everyone will relate to if you have been in love, lost love, and then seek to find yourself again afterwards. The album begins with the exuberant, carefree mid-tempo track “Drink You Up” as the excitement of new love, which can be pretty intoxicating and is a great play on words for the title, is blossoming before our eyes with lyrics like “I want to drink you up. Feel your fire on my lips every time we kiss.” I enjoyed this song because it’s a feelgood song and very easy to listen to, but where she truly shines on this album and where you witness her depth is “Get Out”. As the piano intro starts with a darker feel to this mid-tempo tune, you quickly realize that this song is different from the rest. I enjoyed the entire EP, but THIS song is the standout of the entire album and where she tapped into her emotions. It’s this song where Sarah defines herself as an artist. The song is raw emotion, authentic, and powerful as you feel the emotional depth from it as what was once an intoxicating love has gone sour. Now, what is left is only heartbreak and shattered love. The emotion behind this song is palpable. You can practically reach out and touch it because of the lyrics and musical arrangement of the tune. If there is one thing that we can take from pain and loss, it’s that we find out who we are in those moments. I believe that Sarah truly tapped into all the emotions that she was feeling at the time and just poured them out finding who she is as an artist as she shared what she was going through at the time. It probably was quite healing for her just to get them all out and create something beautiful. The end result is a song that gave me chills. I could listen to that powerful song over and over again. Her voice sores with emotion and strength throughout. It alone is worth the entire cost of the album.
Available to purchase on Tuesday from iTunes and Wal-Mart, I would encourage you to buy this album and support this artist. She’s not just another reality show celebrity and more than simply the ex-wife of a hit songwriter. She is a true artist and skilled songwriter standing on her own two feet finding her own path in this world. You can’t help but root for her and hope she continues to find her way!
Rated 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
