Christmas Traditions From Some Of Our Favorite Artists

We thought we’d ask some of our favorite artists to share some of their Christmas traditions and here’s what they had to say! Enjoy!

Tiffany Lee (Plumb):

One of our Christmas traditions is that every year, on the day after Thanksgiving, we get our tree. A real tree. One that has to be cut down and you have to water regularly and clean up after and enjoy the pine smell of all season long…its all so festive to me, I love it.  We listen to Christmas music, johnny Mathis more specifically, almost exclusively the whole advent season.

We  spend Christmas morning waking to first read the christmas story before a single gift is unwrapped. That day, after the birth story is read we light a candle…a candle our children affectionately refer to as Jesus’ birthday candle and spend time in prayer thanking god for his most perfect gift…his son.”

Lisa Matassa:

“I remember the November after 9/11, my husband and I sat down and talked about how precious and unpredictable life was. We decided at that moment to have a celebration at our home every December and invite all the people who mean so much to us. That year was the start of our annual Matassa Holiday Party. I absolutely LOVE putting together this party and we have the most amazing time with all of our family, friends and colleagues. I always enjoy coming up with a signature holiday cocktail to serve that evening as well as finding little holiday gifts for each of our guests to take home. We sing karaoke, play live music and dance the night away into the early morning. Every year I try to find a small way to top the previous party!

We will be staying close to home this holiday season as I’ve been on the road the majority of this year. It will be nice to catch up with my family and friends and ring in the New Year with them!”

Rose Falcon:

“My grandma makes these cookies we lovingly refer to as “blandanas”, because they have no taste, kinda like a mouthful of sand ! They come in all shapes and sizes and Christmas wouldn’t be the same without them.”

The Delta Saints’ lead singer, Ben Ringel:
“The holidays are about family, so we each head out and spend a week or so with ours. A couple of us stay in town, while the rest of us make our way to Kansas for our respective gatherings. Our holiday traditions are pretty much centered around family and food…and booze. What great holiday is complete with out a little bit of grandpa’s ol’cough medicine?”

Drew Holcomb:
“My favorite is we have an ornament that is a journal and every year we write the highs and lows of the year in the book, and read the ones from years past. the 1st book is almost full after 6 years of marriage:)
For the Christmas tour I go dress shopping with Ellie for the nashville show every year.
Duck Hunting with my dad and my brother is a big one for me, been going after christmas since I was 8 years old.
When we do Christmas with my family, instead of Shopping on Christmas Eve, we do a double header matinee at the movies, then come home and eat Vegetable soup.
With Ellies siblings (and their spouses) we do Secret Santa on Christmas Eve, and there is even a Secret Santa song we wrote.

Jamey Ice of Green River Ordinance:

“My favorite tradition on Christmas Eve is we always go to an evening Christmas Eve service. Then we come back to the house drink eggnog and every one gets to open up one present. It’s always a special time and when we are through with that my dad reads from Luke the story of Jesus being born. Its my favorite part of the Christmas season.”

Geoff Ice from Green River Ordinance:
“In my house Christmas music starts immediately after Thanksgiving, over the years my wife Abbi and I have collected dozens of Christmas records from thrift stores. Our house is constantly jamming the likes of Elvis to Dean Martin singing about Christmas in the most nostalgic way possible. We have also started the tradition of crafting decorations each year and as result with have many different holiday themed wreaths hanging around our house. Most of these crafts consist of creative uses for Christmas tree ornaments  We usually have a very small tree, because of our small house, and we are left with an abundant amount of ornaments that we hide around the house in a similar fashion to an easter egg hunt. Mostly though we spend Christmas with our family’s, and this year we driving from Tennessee to see Abbi’s family.”

The Roys:
“Our holiday tradition is getting together with family.  We only open our presents on Christmas morning.  We then get our Christmas dinner ready with turkey and all the trimmings and just spend time catching up with family after being on the road and away all year long.”
