I had the opportunity to attend Plumb’s show on August 21st at 12th & Porter in Nashville. 12th & Porter is one of the best live venues in town to see music because of the lighting, stage, and sound. That would be exactly why many artists chose it as a place to shoot live video performances at. Plumb was no exception.
Alternative rock/Christian artist, Plumb, had a showcase featuring all-new music from her upcoming album Faster Than A Bullet that is tentatively set for a November release and it was being videoed for a live footage release. If you haven’t heard Plumb before, her music has been featured in shows like The Vampire Diaries.
The first time I ever saw or heard Plumb was back a couple of years ago at Tin Pan South in Nashville. I remember she was the last to perform in the round. The other 3 songwriters were good, as anyone knows that has attended Tin Pan South you have to be great to be in this songwriters’ festival, but Plumb was exceptional. I remember the looks on people’s faces around me when she started playing. Heard a lot of “wows” all around. Even one of the artists on stage with her was in awe as his jaw dropped as she was singing. Seriously, her music is pretty mesmerizing. She made me an instant fan then and seeing her at 12th & Porter recently was only the 2nd show that I have been able to attend since doesn’t perform around town that often.
This was a full band show, but unlike any full band show I had ever seen thus far. Plumb had two band members with her: one on keyboard and the other playing guitar & cello with a small set-up of drums (not a full set) in the middle for Plumb to add some percussion. There were a lot of electronic adds to the show. The result was a full, rich sound. The cello that was included added especially to that “richness”. Add in Plumb’s crisp, strong, emotive vocals with songs that are innovative and filled with emotional depth. Well, you have the makings of a great show and fans were treated to an exceptional show that night! (It was a packed house, by the way.) Also, I enjoyed the screen on the back of the stage displaying different images to add to the overall show on stage–made it very colorful and more visual.
Now, I did feel like there was something slightly missing on the stage. I think it was just because so few band members and not a full drum set. It was just missing that certain energy that you only get from having a full band on stage and the interaction with the other band members. So, it felt slightly disconnected only for those reasons. I just would’ve liked to have more of that energy and see more interaction with band members. Aside from that slight nagging feeling of something missing, this was still a great show.
