Grand Ole Opry Launches #UNBROKEN Charitable Campaign To Benefit MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (April 4, 2020) –Opry member Terri Clark wasjoined by UMG Nashville’s ACM-award winner Lauren Alaina and Warner Music Nashville’s CMA New Artist winner and Grammy-nominated Ashley McBrydetonight for the Grand Ole Opry’s 4,918th consecutive Saturday night broadcast. The show, broadcast live on Circle,  was dedicated to Opry member Joe Diffie, who passed away earlier this week.

Clark, the host of tonight’s Opry, began by saying “It’s an unprecedented time in the world right now” before adding “…as tradition follows, we are going to keep going with the Opry and we are going to keep playing. We know these are tough times and have never seen anything like this in our lifetime. We are all so thrilled to be here.”

“Because we are honoring CDC rules we haven’t rehearsed a lot of this, so we were out in the parking lot 12 feet apart sitting on tailgates before we went on the air tonight,” laughed Clark before introducing Alaina. “Now that’s country. That’s the Opry.”

The three women kicked off the show with some of their own solo favorites before performing a medley of classic country female hits including “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels,” (Kitty Wells); “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” (Loretta Lynn); and “Walking After Midnight” (Patsy Cline). The three also joined forces on one of Diffie’s many hits, “John Deere Green.”

“Thank you all so much for being here with us tonight,” concluded Clark. “We love you. We’re going to get through this together. Stay strong. Stay mighty.” 

Additionally, the Opry launched #UNBROKEN, a charitable campaign to raise money for the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund. The fund will benefit artists and musicians struggling through the pandemic– some of the very people who write, make and create the music that has kept the music alive on the Opry stage for almost 95 years. Opry fans are invited to contribute to the fund by texting UNBROKEN to 41444.

The Grand Ole Opry was broadcast live on Circle, and on Gray TV stations, DISH Studio Channel 102, Sling TV and other TV affiliates in addition to a companion live stream on Circle’s Facebook and YouTube. TV and radio personality Bobby Bones hosted the Circle telecast, while Opry announcer Charlie Mattos joined the Opry’s radio audience at the announcer podium. Embracing today’s technology, the Opry was broadcast and streamed with a very small production team. The shows artists continue to perform acoustically at the recommended social distance across the Opry stage. 

Fans around the world tuned in to the broadcast on the Opry’s flagship radio home, 650 AM-WSM and several other outlets. 

With Nashvillians at home under Nashville Mayor John Cooper’s “STAY at Home” order and live shows paused at the Grand Ole Opry to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, this Saturday’s performance continued without a live audience. Grand Ole Opry management has worked closely with the Nashville’s Director of Health to bring the show live to millions around the world while following strict safety protocols under the guidance of local health professionals.

Millions of fans in dozens of countries around the world have tuned in live over the past four weeks to video stream or listen as the circle remained unbroken. Opry members Bill Anderson, Jeannie Seely and Connie Smith as well as Mandy Barnett, Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper and Sam Williams took to the stage on March 14 as the Opry show went on the air without a live ticketed audience. On March 21 Opry members Vince Gill, Brad Paisley and Marty Stuart performed acoustically from the Opry House stage. Last Saturday March 28, Gill returned to the stage to perform acoustically with members of his family: wife Amy Grant and daughters Jenny Gill and Corrina Grant Gill.

Our top priority this last month has been rebuilding our hometown of Nashville following the tornado and ensuring the safety of our fans, employees, artists and partners during the COVID-19 crisis. CMA Fest Cancelled For 2020

After careful deliberation, and in following the latest guidance from national, state and local authorities, we are sad to announce that CMA Fest will not take place in 2020.

Whether you planned to attend CMA Fest for the first time, or you have attended many times throughout the last 48 years, we know how special this festival is for Country Music fans around the globe and that many will be disappointed by this decision. As the world is still greatly affected by the spread of COVID-19, we cannot in good conscience risk the health and wellbeing of our fans, artists, staff and Country Music community. 

We will honor four-day passes purchased for this year’s event for CMA Fest 2021. However, if you prefer a full refund, we will provide one upon request if your passes were purchased through Ticketmaster or the CMA Fest Box Office. Those who purchased passes through non-official channels should contact the seller directly. Within the next 24-48 hours, all four-day pass purchasers will receive an email with further instructions.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience, as our actions are always in the best interest of our Country Music community. In the coming weeks and months, we will continue to bring Country fans and artists together to celebrate the unique spirit and sense of unity that is at the heart of what CMA Fest stands for. Grand Ole Opry Member Jan Howard Dies At 91

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (March 28, 2020) – Grand Ole Opry member Jan Howard passed away peacefully today in Gallatin, Tennessee at the age of 91. She had been a member of the Opry for 49 years, inducted on March 27, 1971. Graveside services will be private with a Celebration of Life Service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Overwatch Alliance Veterans Foundation, 1000 North Chase Drive, Goodlettsville, TN, 37072.   

Jan’s music career launched in 1960 with her first major country hit “The One You Slip Around With.” That led to more than 20 Top 40 solo singles including “Evil on Your Mind,” “Bad Seed,” and “Count Your Blessings, Woman.” Her single “My Son” began as a letter to her son Jimmy in Vietnam, who was killed in action in 1968. Many years later, her work with the armed forces, mental health, the Veterans Administration, Vietnam veterans, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial earned her the Tennessee Adjutant General’s Distinguished Patriot Medal, its highest civilian honor. In 2005, the Commander in Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars presented her with the Medal of Merit, which is awarded for “exceptional service rendered to country, community and mankind.” 


Jan also enjoyed success as a songwriter writing big hits for others like Kitty Wells (“It’s All Over But the Crying”), Connie Smith (“I Never Once Stopped Loving You”) and Bill Anderson’s (“Love Is a Sometimes Thing”). Jan joined Anderson’s syndicated TV show and tour, and the two topped the charts with the smash “For Loving You.” 

She chronicled her life and career in her acclaimed autobiography Sunshine and Shadow: My Story. 

“Jan Howard was a force of nature in country music, at the Opry, and in life,” said Grand Ole Opry Vice President and Executive Producer Dan Rogers. “We were all so lucky so many nights to hear her voice on stage and to catch up with her backstage. We’re all better for having had her in our lives.” 

She is survived by one of her three sons, Carter A. Howard and his wife Pamela, two grandchildren, Mitsi H. Lindsay (Keith), Anita H. Simpson (Travis), and three great-grandchildren, Cole, Alli and Charlie.

NASHVILLE, TN (Friday, March 27, 2020) – BIG MACHINE DISTILLERY is producing more than its namesake platinum-filtered premium vodka as neighbors fight to stay healthy. Beginning today, hand sanitizer crafted at the distillery’s Lynnville and Berry Hill locations will be donated to local first responders – police officers, EMT, and firefighters – in a time when vital supplies are low. Using the World Health Organization’s formula to ensure compliance with industry safety and efficacy standards, the sanitizer is 80% alcohol and manufactured in various sizes (50 ml, 100 ml, 375 ml and 55 gallon drums).   This morning, first responders from the Berry Hill Police Department, Hendersonville Fire Department, Ashland City Police Department, Belle Meade Police Department, Gallatin Police Department, Nashville Fire Department, Franklin Fire Department, Dickson County Sheriff’s Department and Brentwood Police Department visited the Big Machine Distillery & Tavern where they were gifted dozens of 50 ml bottles of the hand sanitizer to distribute among their teams and communities.

“It’s amazing to see a company like Big Machine and its employees and owners set profits and publicity aside for the better good of the community,” said Berry Hill Police Chief Tim Coleman in regards to the lack of hand sanitizer available.

Grand Ole Opry Continues On For 4,917th Saturday Night Broadcast

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (March 28, 2020) The Grand Ole Opry continued its nearly 100-year history of consecutive Saturday Night broadcasts tonight, playing its 4,917th Saturday night show to an empty Opry House as Opry member Vince Gill took the stage alongside wife Amy Grant and daughters Jenny Gill and Corrina Grant Gill. 

Throughout the show, the family members took turns in the spotlight and backing each other, including on a round of cover songs featuring Rodney Crowell’s “Til I Gain Control Again,” (Vince); Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi,” (Amy); John Mayer’s “The Heart of Life,” (Jenny); and Harry Nilsson’s “Without You,” (Corrina). To conclude the evening, the four joined their voices on the gospel standard “How Great Thou Art” and “You Are My Sunshine,” which Vince dedicated to Opry member Jan Howard, who passed away earlier today at age 91. 

The show was broadcast live on Circle, on Gray TV stations and other TV affiliates in addition to a companion live stream via Circle’s Facebook and YouTube. TV and radio personality Bobby Bones hosted the Circle telecast, while Opry announcer Mike Terry joined as the Opry’s radio audience at the on-stage announcer podium. 15-Time ACM Award® Winner Keith Urban to Host for the First Time

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 23, 2020) – The Academy of Country Music® and dick clark productions announced today that the 55TH ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS™ has set a new air date, Wednesday, Sept. 16 (live 8:00-11:00 PM ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network, and will stream live and on demand on CBS All Access. As previously announced, the 55th ACM Awards® that honors the biggest names and emerging talent in the Country Music industry, will be hosted by reigning ACM® Entertainer of the Year and 15-time ACM Award® winner Keith Urban for the first time.

As announced last week, the new special ACM PRESENTS: OUR COUNTRY will be broadcast Sunday, April 5 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, the time period originally slated for the 55TH ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS. The new special will feature at-home acoustic performances with top Country artists along with clips of their favorite ACM Awards moments. It will be a night filled with entertainment, hope and reflection, bringing the healing power of music to Americans at a time when they need it most.
