TPAC has an exciting year ahead as they say goodbye to their beloved Kathleen O’Brien in July and welcome new President and Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Turner in May. But the shift in the organization didn’t lend to skipping any beats with this year’s lineup.
“Dear Evan Hansen” opens up the year with its 6 Tony winning story line of a high-schooler who tries to fit in by telling a few fibs. We are all Evan Hansen. “Once on this Island” is a super-dreamy, Tony winning for “best revival” musical about a girl who risks everything for freedom and love. #girlpower. Nickelodeon sweeps in with what the New York Times calls “Brilliant” theatrical innovation of “Spongebob the Musical”. “Cats” and “My Fair Lady” both have gotten total overhauls with new music and set design! The Blue Man Group is a nice addition of constant sensory stimulation. And this year marks the 50th Anniversary of “Jesus Christ SuperStar”. “The Color Purple” , a tony winner for Best Revival has been hailed as “a direct hit to the heart” by the Hollywood Reporter and will no doubt be on the top of my list.
TPAC and Jimmy Buffett want you to set your mind to Island time in what USA Today calls “a little slice of paradise”. Then, Boom! Donna Summer drops the “Donna Summer Musical” on Nashville with more than 20 classic hits. “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is a new musical that has a couple of sweet surprises, as the classic candy man mixes it up with new visuals. Finally, the piece de resistance’ is the story of a West Indies immigrant who became the right hand man of George Washington in the revolutionary war to become a father of our Nation in “Hamilton”.
TPAC also provides intimate and nonmusical alternatives by the impressive and acclaimed Nashville Repertory Theater to satisfy all (mostly) family friendly, performing art needs.
