Keith Urban treated Music City to the ultimate lunch break on Monday afternoon, when he performed a free outdoor concert at the Bridgestone Arena Plaza in downtown Nashville.
The concert, part of promotion efforts surrounding his new album “RipCord”, drew thousands to the corner of 5th and Broadway, with many fans watching from rooftop bars, restaurant balconies and even from office buildings across the street.
Excited fans lined up on the street below well before the noon start time, with one woman near the front claiming she had been camping out since Sunday night. The Australian rocker applauded the crowd’s enthusiasm, asking at one point “Who here is skipping school right now? Your parents are concerned, but I love you!”
Urban performed multiple songs from his new album throughout the hour-long concert and quipped with the crowd during breaks. At one point, he brought a Clarksville girl onstage to mark her 20th birthday, posing for a quick selfie before starting the next song.
“RipCord” is the musician’s ninth studio record and features songs like “Wasted Time”, “Break on Me” and “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16”, which was the album’s first single.
Urban, who resides in Nashville with wife Nicole Kidman, will kick off a world tour in support of the album on June 2 in Kansas City. He’ll return to Nashville on November 11 to play Bridgestone Arena with fellow artists Brett Eldredge and Maren Morris. Tickets are still available at www.ticketmaster.com/
