Nashville’s Silver Dollar Saloon (110 Second Avenue North, Nashville) will host a very special celebration on Wednesday, September 11. Though an unlikely paring, some of Nashville’s greatest “Outlaws” will come together in honor of our military heroes and first responders with an evening of great music, specials for active military and veterans and public servants (police, firefighters, etc.), and lots of surprises.

The event will feature a special tribute show to Billy Don Burns. Burns’ 45+year career has yielded cuts with such notables as Willie Nelson, Connie Smith, Mel Tillis, Johnny Paycheck and Sammy Kershaw, just to name a few. With a large cult following, Burns is best-known as one of the few surviving unsung members of Country Music’s original “Outlaw Movement.” Diehard fans (and those discovering the “Outlaws” for the first time through its recent resurgence) rank Billy Don Burns as one of the most overlooked artists of his generation. For more information on Billy Don Burns, click HERE.

Roots rocker Shooter Jennings will be among the notable “friends” that are stopping by to join in the celebration. The event is FREE and open to the public to come shake the hand of a hero and enjoy a spectacular Americana/Country show. What’s more American than that?! Doors open at 6 p.m. For more information on The Silver Dollar Saloon, please visit www.silverdollarsaloon.com.

“September 11 is a watershed date in American (and world) history,” says RKW Global Entertainment Group’s Robert Wolf, organizer of the event. “We wanted to take this day to thank the heroes who continue to answer when our nation calls—no politics, no sorrow…just a big show of appreciation, Nashville-style!”

Billy Don Burns

A decorated veteran, Billy Don Burns fulfilled his duty in Vietnam as a paratrooper before winning a military talent contest that would launch his career into Country Music. After brushing elbows with the Bakersfield crowd, Burns’ early Nashville career would lead him to Opryland where he portrayed Hank Williams in a show. Working his way through the ranks, he opened for acts such as Boots Randolph and Ronnie Prophet, and formed relationships with such notables as Cowboy Jack Clement, Waylon Jennings, Harlan Howard, Hank Cochran, Earl Clark, Billy Joe Shaver, Kris Kristofferson and others. As an artist and songwriter, he experienced modest success on the charts. As manager/producer of Johnny Paycheck during “the worst of times” and was with him when he turned himself over to authorities for shooting a man in Ohio (later Burns and Merle Haggard would later visit Paycheck in prison and produce a Gospel album). Burns was also once engaged to Lorrie Morgan.

Throughout it all, Burns remained relatively unscathed, enduring a music journey that continues to this day. Burns has opened a number of tour shows for Shooter Jennings, who also asked him to perform as his guest on the Grand Ole Opry®. Recently dubbed “Songwriter of the Tear” by “Mater” Robinson Blog of No Depression, Burns was awarded “2012 Song of the Year” on SavingCountryMusic.com for his song “Stranger” (listen HERE),

“Every now and then… in this day of cookie cutter auto-tuned singers… every now and then I get to hear a voice singing songs that remind me of why I fell in love with music… Billy Don Burns with Nights When I’m Sober – A Portrait of a Honky Tonk Singer did that for me this morning… It’s late afternoon now and I’m still being reminded… Thank you Billy Don.” – Chuck Cannon
Shooter Jennings is the gifted son of Waylon and Jessie Colter. His music is a mixture of many different influences. Like his father, Shooter is a non-conformist who lets his music speak for itself. Make no mistake about it, Shooter Jennings has never been one to allow expectations, boundaries, genre or ideals dictate the direction of his art. From the moment he burst onto the scene, it was clear that he had a style and a vision all his own that would separate him from the leagues of cookie-cutter artists out there.

During the recording sessions for Shooter’s previous release, Family Man, as in life, things began to shift and change and The Other Life began to take form. Over the duration of 2012, Shooter and The Triple Crown finished work on The Other Life, and Shooter and long-time video-collaborator Blake Judd began planning an expansive film counterpart to the album. Shot across Tennessee, Kentucky, Nevada and California, The Other Life film paints a story of isolation, temptation and rebirth through visual storytelling. As an album, The Other Life sees Shooter using all the colors of the pallets of previous recordings, and bringing them together to make his most diverse and interesting album to date.

In 2012, Shooter also began work producing records for other artists, including Lexington, KY’s dirt rock band Fifth on the Floor’s Ashes & Angels, Jason Boland’s Dark and Dirty Mile will follow, as well as a yet-unnamed record with Reno’s Hellbound Glory.

Watch Shooter’s “A Hard Lesson to Learn” video HERE. Shooter Jennings’ Electric Rodeo airs every Saturday night at 6PM EST and re-airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EST and Thursdays at 12 a.m. EST only on Sirius XM radio, only in Outlaw Country.
