Last Saturday, August 20th, I had the chance to see Julie Roberts perform a full band show to a packed house just outside of Nashville in Hampshire, TN. She performed at the new venue, Natchez Hills Vineyard with hit songwriter, Jason Matthews, opening for her on acoustic guitar.
Now, I THOUGHT that I lived out in the country before I attended this show, but THAT was out in the country! You know you are out in the country when you completely lose cell service and you hope & pray that your GPS doesn’t go out so that you find your way back home after the show! Ok, it wasn’t bad and it’s quite pretty out there, but I would’ve never found my way there or my way back home without GPS. Plus, walking out late at night surrounded by grapes in the pitch dark, felt a little too eerily like I was in a horror movie. Children of the Grapes, perhaps? I thought someone might just come along and snatch me from behind those grapes! haha
Ok, enough of my talk about being a little too far out in the country, the pitch dark, and the quiet. I’m a city girl, I guess! Just not used to these things! However, It’s a beautiful venue in a very serene setting with a very welcoming staff. So, I highly recommend attending a show there, if you get the chance and take a flashlight to find your way back to your car.
Only disappointment was no wine just yet, but they will have it soon. I was planning on sipping on a little wine while I was there. Oh, well! Takes a while for those grapes to ripen on their vines. Just enjoy another beverage and some tasty barbeque while you are out there, instead.
Jason Matthews started the evening out perfectly with just him and his guitar on stage. For those of you who don’t know, Jason is the writer of “Break Down Here“, Julie’s biggest hit, plus several other songs like Billy Currington‘s “Must Be Doing Something Right” and Luke Bryan‘s “Country Man“.
Then, Julie Roberts took the stage with a full band with scaled back percussion to give a little more intimate feel to her show. She performed for nearly 2 hours, I believe. Julie was personable and humorous, between songs and keeping the audience entertained all evening with her beautiful vocals. She’s a pro and a class act in every way. You can tell that she feels most at home and alive when she’s on the stage. It’s what she’s meant to do and she shines when she does!
My favorite songs of the evening were “Break Down Here“, “Lord I Hope This Day is Good“, and it’s just plain fun to hear one of her new ones –“Nascar Party“.
She was very gracious to her fans. Julie stayed nearly 2 hours after the show to meet and take pictures with everyone that attended.
Be sure to catch one of Julie’s shows when she comes near your area! You won’t regret it.
