About Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge:
Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge has operated across the alley from the Ryman almost continuously since 1960. Its proprietor from 1960 to 1978, Hattie Louise “Tootsie” Bess, bought the lounge called “Mom’s” and named it for herself. According to tradition, a painter mistakenly painted the exterior orchid purple. The color was never changed and became Tootsie’s signature color. Over the years, she served such famous customers as Kris Kristofferson, Faron Young and Willie Nelson when they were still up-and-coming artists, and Tootsie was well-known for her generosity toward struggling musicians. The photo and memorabilia-lined walls are called “Tootsie’s Wall of Fame.”

Today, Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge is a must-see Music City destination for tourists and is frequented by locals, including some of the biggest names in country music, who often drop in and surprise patrons with impromptu performances. Kenny Chesney with classic rock icon Steve Miller, Keith Urban, Kix Brooks, Montgomery Gentry, Kid Rock, Steven Tyler, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Dierks Bentley and Hank Williams, Jr. are among the artists who have recently performed there. Cochran, the first female artist in the history of country music to write, produce, and play multiple instruments including lead guitar on her debut release, was at the top of her game and a big touring force across the United States when her world came to an abrupt halt when she was diagnosed and told she had triple positive breast cancer in August of 2017. Cochran, alwaysa strong and giving woman in every aspect of her life, stood tall and began the fight of her life. She turned to her songwriting for strength and solace and the result is her latest single, “Fight Like A Girl.” The song has gone on to not only give herself courage and determination but has been a source of courage and inspiration to many women all over the world who have been facing the same challenge as well as others.
MORE ABOUT “FIGHT LIKE A GIRL”:

“Fight Like A Girl” can also be seen on Anita’s official YouTube channel now on GAC.

Cochran produced and created the visually stunning and inspiring video for Fight Like A Girl” which recently won “Best Music Video” at the Creation International Film Festival.

Because I’m a fighter, I’m a survivor, you ain’t gonna change my world,”
Cochran sings in the powerful anthem. The words are inspiring not just to those battling cancer, but also to men and women alike who are facing their own personal trials.

My story is about my battle with breast cancer,” Cochran says, but there are so many people out there who are trying to push past barriers and that’s what this song is about. Everyone is battling something. It’s for all of us. I hope it can help give strength and encouragement.”

Cochran told her very emotional and personal journey to the Tennessean. Read it HERE.

Cochran’s battle has inspired her to get involved in the fight against breast cancer by bringing awareness to the disease and educating others.  Giving back has always been of paramount importance to Cochran from the very beginning, so she knew she wanted to share her story.

Cochran documented her experiences throughout diagnosis and treatment in her blog, titled Journey to Healing. She gives candid insight about her treatments and provides support and educational information for people experiencing a similar challenge.

MUSIC FOR MIKE Concert Sells Out Raising $100,000

It could only be called an epic night of music for one of the noblest reasons. Country music icons BlackHawk, Brooks & Dunn’s Kix Brooks, Diamond Rio, Foster & Lloyd, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Lee Roy Parnell, Pam Tillis, Phil Vassar and Steve Wariner, all backed by the band Sixwire, met up for a one-night-only event, donating their time, to raise money for the family of one of their former champions—Arista/Nashville and Seagayle Music’s Mike Owens. The organizers of the event, friends and family of Mike Owens wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in making the concert a success bringing in more than $100,000.00 for the Mike Owens Family Trust.

Emceed by Arista/Nashville’s original label president, Tim DuBois, the event offered country music fans live performances of some of their favorite classic country hits from Diamond Rio’s “Meet In the Middle,” to Phil Vassar’s “Just Another Day in Paradise,” to an all-star collaboration of Merle Haggard’s “Working Man Blues.” Several of the artists also played songs specifically for Owen’s family, including Alan’s “Song for the Life” and Wariner’s “Sails.”

But in addition to the music, the audience was given insight into the Arista/Nashville label family and the man they had come together to honor. During their sets, each act remembered him and commented on how Owens touched their lives and helped shape their careers.

Afterward, DuBois said, “It was an incredible night of talent supported by a loving record label family. Mike was celebrated and remembered in the best way we knew how—with the music he loved and believed in.” The last words spoken during the evening came from Owen’s wife who expressed her deepest appreciation to everyone in the room.

The September 25th show at War Memorial Auditorium was created to raise funds to help defray the costs of the medical treatments incurred while Mike, who had been diagnosed with renal disease, was awaiting a kidney transplant. Sadly, his fight ended when he passed away on September 2.  Donations are still being accepted for The Mike Owens Family Trust through his Go Fund Me page HERE.

SEVEN DEADLY SINS Returns To Haunt This Halloween

Nashville Ballet’s popular contemporary collaboration with singer-songwriter collective Ten Out of Tenn returns to TPAC’s Polk Theater October 18-20, 2018 to usher in the Halloween season. An original score is played live while the ballet’s company artists perform a captivating narrative alongside them.

An instant hit after premiering in 2017, Nashville Ballet Resident Choreographer Christopher Stuart’s beguiling production returns to take viewers on a chilling journey through purgatory. As the protagonist encounters each of the cardinal sins, a live performance by the highly acclaimed artists of Ten Out of Tenn – Butterfly Boucher, Trent Dabbs, Gabe Dixon, Katie Herzig, Jeremy Lister, Erin McCarley and k.s. Rhoads – transports the audience to a realm where only the most sinister survive. Will the protagonist find a way to defeat his inner demons or will the temptations he encounters lead to depravity?

“This collaboration is a snapshot of what is happening now in the local arts scene,” Rhoads said. “Ours is a city that celebrates and thrives on creativity, and this show is such a beautiful culmination of that. There will be dance, theatre, songwriting, musicianship and storytelling all in one. That’s really what Ten Out of Tenn was striving for when it began 12 years ago – to highlight the magic that is happening in this little town in the middle of Tennessee.”

Originating in 2005, Ten Out of Tenn is a collective of musicians ranging from Americana to folk to rock to pop that was created to highlight Nashville’s diverse music scene beyond the country genre for which it’s traditionally known. The musicians (each with their own successful solo careers and fan bases) team up to produce compilation albums and tour as one band, taking turns both in the spotlight and collaborating all together on stage to display the breadth of musical talent Nashville has to offer in one evening.

During this unique Ten Out of Tenn show, the artists will perform original music inspired by Stuart’s concept. Rhoads grouped the artists together to each create a song inspired by one of the seven vices explored in the ballet. Ten Out of Tenn musicians will perform the music along with a string quartet. The Seven Deadly Sins set list features:

• Pride (Can’t Bury My Weakness) by Butterfly Boucher
• Greed (This Isn’t What I Got Into It For) by Trent Dabbs and k.s. Rhoads
• Envy (If Every Wish Came True) by Katie Herzig, Amy Stroup and k.s. Rhoads
• Sloth (I Feel It Too Much) by Erin McCarley and k.s. Rhoads
• Gluttony (I Can’t Get Enough of Everything) by Jeremy Lister, Gabe Dixon and k.s. Rhoads
• Lust (All That I Want) by Matthew Perryman Jones and k.s. Rhoads
• Wrath (Like Thunder) by k.s. Rhoads

Choreographer Jennifer Archibald’s Superstitions opens the provocative evening. Born out of Nashville Ballet’s experimental series Emergence in 2017, and expanded upon since, Archibald’s work blends the precision, technicality and athleticism of tradition with contemporary dance styles in a look at the harrowing legends of the supernatural that have captivated countless generations. Superstitions continues to illuminate the vast wealth of talent in Music City with an innovative score by Nashvillebased composer Cristina Spinei.

Nashville Ballet is kicking off this fascinating production with Infernal Indulgence held October 10 from 6-10 p.m. at Bar Sovereign, 514 5th Ave. S, Nashville, TN 37203. For one night only, Bar Sovereign guests can enjoy a storied menu developed by Josh Whitfield. Just as the ballet’s protagonist encounters each sin, seven carefully crafted cocktails give patrons a taste of each vice before they come to life on stage at TPAC. The event is first come, first served with no cover charge. Cocktails may also be purchased in halfservings giving customers the opportunity to imbibe all the lascivious libations. Guests will also have the opportunity to interact with the musicians, dancers and choreographer behind this extraordinary work.

Purchase tickets for Seven Deadly Sins with Superstitions in person at the TPAC box office in downtown Nashville, by phone at (615) 782-4040 or at www.nashvilleballet.com. The presenting sponsor for this production is Climb Nashville. A complete performance schedule and more information can be found at www.nashvilleballet.com/seven-deadly-sins.

“The high-energy five-piece band” (Rolling Stone) has rapidly created a loyal fanbase over the past five years with more than 400 shows as the featured act with sold-out club runs in major markets such as New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles. After finishing up the 2018 MOUNTAIN HIGH TOUR with superstar Dierks Bentley, the band will close out 2018 during the first leg of the HALLELUJAH NIGHTS TOUR launching in Columbia, MO at The Blue Note on Oct. 24 with Travis Denning.

The “arena-rock leaning band” (Entertainment Weekly) is “at the top of their game” (Pitchfork) as they continue “dominating Country radio” (Billboard) by revealing another piece of their story with their Top 20 single “Born To Love You.”  Their 2X Platinum, multi-week No. 1 hit “Greatest Love Story” paved the course for acclaim with lead singer Brandon Lancaster becoming the first artist in 10 years to have a No. 1 on the chart solely written by that artist. LANCO earned recognition as the first Country group to debut on the Billboard Country albums chart in a decade with their coming-of-age album HALLELUJAH NIGHTS . As the record now boasts over 423 million streams it proves why this year’s two-time ACM and CMT nominated group is the only Country band to achieve a Platinum single prior to a debut album release. Superstar vocal group RASCAL FLATTS are releasing a powerhouse new single, “Back To Life” (Big Machine Records), available at Country radio today: https://rascalflatts.lnk.to/BackToLife.  The trio produced the stirring track, which erupts throughout the chorus. Songwriters Cary Barlowe, Niko Moon, Shay Mooney and Fred Wilhelm penned vivid lyrics as Rascal Flatts’ harmonies shine. Billboard exclusively premiered the lyric video for “Back To Life,” available to watch here.

“The first moment we heard this song, we knew it was meant for us,” said Gary LeVox. “There are so many little things that add up to making someone so uniquely special to you, and this song captures that love and conveys all the good feelings that come along with it.  We’re at an exciting point in our careers, and we’re fortunate to be able to just focus on making and releasing music that speaks to us and hopefully resonates with the fans.”

One band. Ten albums. Seventeen No. One hits. Over 27 million records and 10 million tickets sold. Time and success have only put Rascal Flatts closer to their core with expert musicianship, razor-sharp vocals and songs that have shaped lives, loves and the genre of country music itself.  The trio most recently celebrated back-to-back chart-topping singles “Yours If You Want It” and “I Like The Sound Of That.”  The group has also earned over 40 trophies from the ACA, ACM, AMA, CMA, People’s Choice and more, making them the most awarded Country group of the past decade. Rascal Flatts recently wrapped their stacked and highly praised headlining BACK TO US TOUR and will play select dates this fall.
