FOCUS was invited to attend the show by Green River Ordinance at Exit/In in Nashville on September 29th. Neither Matt nor I had ever had the opportunity to see them perform live and have only recently become familiar with their music. What did we think of the show? Simply put: these guys are the real deal! What a treat to see them perform live! Honestly, one of the best shows I’ve seen all year. Excellent musicianship, great stage presence, and radio-friendly alternative rock songs with lyrics filled with depth and meaning. Not only that, these are just good, humble artists from Texas who have just recently made the move to Nashville.
What impressed me the most besides the incredible hour and a half show they gave that kept my attention the entire time? They ended the night saying that rather than leave the stage, wait for applause, and come back on for one more, they would be finishing their set with an acoustic number out in the middle of the audience. I have never seen that done and the people in the back finally had the opportunity to see them up close, too. It was a packed house and, honestly, that move was one of the classiest and coolest things I’ve seen done at a show. Then, as soon as the show was over, they were out there meeting fans.
This band is impressive and a class act. They are a tight, cohesive unit on stage. There are no “rock star” attitudes. It’s a band that truly appreciates their fans.
If you’re not already listening to Green River Ordinance, you should be! You’re missing out on true talent if you’re not.
