Shame On You, Country Radio!
I have watched and I have held my tongue long enough about this subject. WHY is country radio not playing and promoting more solo female artists? WHY do they not give these incredibly talented female solo artists, female duos, and female trios equal airplay like they give their male counterparts?
Female artists: solo, duos, and trios are being dropped from labels left and right because they aren’t selling as much as male artists. This all goes directly back to they aren’t getting equal airplay as the male artists. Airplay that means promotion that leads right back to album sales. If they are never heard or heard very little, how can they be expected to sell albums and show tickets? WHY is this??? Most female artists can sing CIRCLES around most of the male artists out there. You know this is true! I can run down a complete list right now and prove my point. Stop being a “good ole boys club”, country radio!
Why am I so frustrated about this? Because I know some of these female artists that have been dropped from labels or that are struggling to be heard on country radio, that’s why!
Now, there are some supportive radio stations and DJs out there, but for the most part, country radio is being run by these large companies and people at the actual radio stations have no say in the playlist. It gets decided for them. There are a handful of completely independent stations out there, but sadly, most of the large radio stations are owned by a large company like Clear Channel, who owns most of the radio stations out there and they are dominating the market–controlling it.
All I’m saying is give the female artists in country music EQUAL airplay and let their music be heard! Let your listening audiences decide if they like them and give them a chance to succeed. Until you do that, I will just say “shame on you, country radio” because it’s wrong and you know it!!

Definition of a GHERM:
Someone who slavishly follows and sucks up to a celebrity. A fan to excessive degree. Usually applied to one who makes people uncomfortable by their adoration.
“That guy is such a gherm. He buys every piece of merchandise related to that singer and attends every show.”A person not affiliated with the music industry but who has connections that can get them backstage concert access. They then get backstage and totally get in the way of those who are supposed to be there working. Term originated at Starwood Amphitheater in Antioch, TN during the summer of 1990.
“Wow, this load-out would be a breeze but the gherms at this Jimmy Buffet show are totally getting in the way!”
Song Review, Debut Single “Cruise” By Florida Georgia Line Released To ITunes
“Cruise” is the debut single just released to iTunes by up and coming duo Florida Georgia Line.
This was my first time to hear this new country duo and hopefully not my last! I was instantly taken in by this upbeat tune that is filled with great harmonies and a rocking country sound. It is beautifully-produced and well-crafted musicianship. You’ll be hooked after the first few bars. I was!
Perfect for driving down the road with the windows down on a cool spring day and music cranked loud from the speakers. It’s the type of infectious song that is going to appeal to a mostly young 20-something audience, but I think anyone that is a fan of good country music will like it as well!
Rated 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Check Out This Video From David St. Romain “Some Things”
Please see this video from one of my favorite people, David St. Romain!
I met David about 5 years. You might remember him from ‘Nashville Star’ as one of the frontrunners. He’s got a great new video out and I love his voice-a cross between country and blues. Probably that Louisiana influence! Anyway, hope you check it out!
Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival March 27th – March 31st
Just a reminder that a great musical event is happening all week in Nashville that you don’t want to miss if you are a music fan! It’s the 20th annual Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival happening March 27th-31st at various venues around town.
All genres included and all original songs performed by the songwriter who wrote it. Not only do you get to hear some great music live in an intimate setting, but you’ll hear some stories that will make you laugh or just touch you. At any rate, it’s a good time to be had.
Check out the site for more details and full listing of shows, times, prices, and who’s playing at: www.tinpansouth.com!
Some notable shows that I hope you’ll consider attending are:
WEDNESDAY: THE FARM, Danny Myrick, Heidi Newfield, and Bridgette Tatum starting at 6pm @ The Rutledge
FRIDAY: Jesse Lee, Johnny Bulford, Chris Roberts, and more TBA starting at 6pm @ Belcourt Taps and Tapas
ALSO, ON FRIDAY: Jennifer Zuffinetti, Julie Roberts, Danielle Peck, and Carolyn Dawn Johnson starting at 6pm @ The Bluebird Cafe
Friday’s going to be a little bit tough because of those 2 great shows going on at the same time!
I caught up with singer/songwriter, Jesse Lee, and this is what she had to say about Tin Pan South and why she supports NSAI’s songwriters festival: “I’ve been involved with NSAI since I was 15 years old. NSAI realizes that “it all begins with a song,” and they go above and beyond to protect the songwriters. Tin Pan South draws people from all over the country. It’s a unique experience which allows us songwriters to perform at our own shows, as well as see our peers perform. I love watching a songwriter sing something I’ve heard before, and then hear the inspiration, and the story behind the song.”
Get out and enjoy this great event happening all week along with some beautiful spring weather. This event helps support great music and Nashville!
