Chris Young Sells Out Hometown Arena Show

On Saturday, September 22nd, Chris Young along with tour mates, Kane Brown and Morgan Evans, brought their LOSING SLEEP tour to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to play a sold out show.

You could feel the energy in the air with this enthusiastic crowd as they sang along, danced, and lit up their phones in response to hit songs by all 3 of the artists, especially Chris Young who headlined the concert.

Starting out the evening was Australian artist Morgan Evans signed to Warner Music Nashville.  Evans was joined onstage by his “American band”, which consists of him, a guitar, and foot pedals to control pre-recorded loops.  The result is he sounds just like he is playing with a full band only it is just him.

Fans sang along with Evans to his recent first number one hit, “Kiss Somebody”, and roared with excitement as he welcomed Kelsea Ballerini to the stage to sing a duet with him.  The newly-weds both beamed at each other under the bright concert lights and blended their harmonies perfectly together.

Sony Nashville’s Kane Brown was the next to take the stage with his full band.  It was clear that many in the audience were there to see Brown as they cheered loudly and sang along to many of his songs.  Brown gave an energetic performance along with his high energy band.  He was urged back to the stage by fans at the conclusion of his set for an encore when he sang his 2 biggest hits to date, “What If’s” and “Heaven”.  The crowd went wild for both.

Finally, the energy in the arena built to a palpable level that you could literally feel as the stage crew prepared the huge stage for the headliner, Sony Music’s longtime artist Chris Young, to perform.  As concert goers eagerly-awaited Young to take to the stage, the arena’s video camera zoomed in randomly around the audience showing couples kissing and people dancing up & down the aisles.

The crowd reached a frenzied level as the lights went down to reveal a high tech video opener that concluded with the covers over the tops of all the musicial instruments being lifted from above the stage revealing Young and his band as he opened appropriately with “Losing Sleep”.

Young sang hit after hit from his large catalog to his hometown audience since he grew up just outside of Nashville in Murfreesboro and attended Belmont University.  He smiled and beamed the whole night as he seemingly enjoyed every minute of it up soaking it all in as the crowd cheered in delight every time he simply stepped towards his microphone before he could even utter a lyric.

For years, Chris Young has worked towards this moment making his way through the Nashville music scene as a teenager “paying his dues” playing small venues like the French Quarter in east Nashville, which now is The Crying Wolf, and El Chico’s Mexican restaurant on Murfreesboro Rd. several years before it closed down where he was asked to play cover songs performing for tips only.  He has come a long way since then and has worked tirelessly for years to get to this level in his career, which shows no signs of slowing down.

Performing in the largest venue in Nashville, next to Nissan Stadium, to a sold out crowd inside Bridgestone Arena for his own headlining tour must have felt like a dream come true for the humble artist that night.  A dream that he has worked especially hard for since he was a teenager as he honed his skills in performing and songwriting.  This was a well-deserved moment for a very deserving, hardworking artist.

Young was joined on stage by special guest, the talented Cassadee Pope, for their #1 hit, “Think Of Us”.   Later, he was joined by longtime label mate, Brad Paisley, to sing Paisley’s hit, “I’m Still A Guy”.  It was a playful moment to go along with a playful song as they had a little fun with a woman in the front row as they held on to her cellphone she eagerly handed to them.  Wondering to themselves as they took some selfies: “what a female in Nashville might have on her phone”.  They both playfully perused her phone scrolling through pictures and who she last called.  Then they decided to call back her last number dialed leaving a message on that person’s voicemail.  Finally handing the phone back to the excited audience member as they finished the song out.  Just guys being guys, only on a stage in front of nearly 14,000 adoring fans.

Young stated that he could play all night to this crowd as he performed until after 11pm for a 17 song set, posed for a fun photo of him and the sold out crowd, and smashing an acoustic guitar (stating that he had never done that before) on stage before ending the night a couple of songs later.

It was a night filled with great music and memories.  All the rain outside could not dampen anyone’s spirits that evening and Young, along with his tour mates, shined brightly like the sun that was missing from outside behind the clouds inside the arena.

It was a night of celebrations as the LOSING SLEEP tour played its 33rd sold out show and Chris Young played his first ever concert inside the Bridgestone Arena, something I am sure he only dreamed of doing several years ago as a college student in Nashville.

Album Review: Chris Young | LOSING SLEEP

Chris Young has just released his 7th studio project entitled, LOSING SLEEP, on RCA.

The 10-track project is a strong effort with thoughtful lyrics and several standout tunes that are sure to become future number one hits for the extremely-talented artist.

A first for him is Young co-wrote every song on the album this time.  He also co-produced like with his last 2 projects.  This is his third release in 3 years.  He is clearly on a roll, staying extremely busy, and fresh off his Opry induction, which is so richly-deserved for him.  He has worked very hard to get where he is over the course of many years and maintains a strong work ethic throughout, which is why he has seen such success.

As usual, Young’s voice is perfection on this release.  Basically, he could sing the phonebook and make it sound good with his distictive baritone voice.  Young exhibits such control with his voice, as always.  He can be a powerhouse vocalist when he wants to or sing a beautiful, slower ballad flawlessly.

Heartbreaking and beautiful are: “Losing Sleep”“Where I Go When I Drink”, and the album’s signature song, “Blacked Out.”  You can’t say that these are anything other than pure country.

My personal favorite off the album that I can’t seem to get enough of playing over and over is the uptempo & lighter, “She’s Got A Way”.

Buy this album now.  Just released October 20th.  It will appeal to all country fans whether you are into a more traditional sound or contemporary, there is something for everyone on this.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars.

Track list for LOSING SLEEP:

1. “Losing Sleep” (Chris Young, Chris DeStefano, Josh Hoge)
2. “Hangin’ On” (Chris Young, Corey Crowder, Josh Hoge)
3. “Holiday” (Chris Young, Cary Barlowe, Johnny Bulford, Corey Crowder)
4. “Radio and the Rain” (Chris Young, Corey Crowder, Josh Hoge)
5. “Where I Go When I Drink” (Chris Young, Tyler Reeve, Trent Tomlinson)
6. “She’s Got a Way” (Chris Young, Cary Barlowe, Corey Crowder)
7. “Leave Me Wanting More” (Chris Young, Corey Crowder, John Pierce)
8. “Trouble Looking” (Chris Young, Corey Crowder, Liz Rose)

Congratulations To Chris Young For Being Invited To Join The Grand Ole Opry

Grammy nominated vocalist Chris Young was surprised during his Grand Ole Opry performance this evening by Country Music Hall of Fame and Opry member Vince Gill with an invitation to become an official Opry member. The invite came just prior to Young’s performance of their chart-topping duet “Sober Saturday Night.” Growing up in nearby Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Young dreamt of one day taking the stage at the Opry, making his debut on June 15, 2006. Another dream came true for the 32-year-old singer with tonight’s Opry invitation. Young’s formal induction will take place Tuesday, October 17, just days before the release of his 7th album, Losing Sleep.

Joining Young on stage, Gill laughed that he’d never been paid for his work on the “Sober Saturday Night” session. “I’ll make you a deal,” Gill said. “I’ll forgive the session fees if you’ll be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.”

Accepting the invitation to a standing ovation, Young answered Gill, saying, “You’re getting triple scale at this point!” Noting his surprise, he added, “Dang, you got me good! I love you guys. I love everybody here. I love this place.”

“As a friend and someone that’s been out here for 30 years, you will not believe the friendships, the relationships, and the heart that you will gain from being out here for the rest of your life,” Gill added. “It’s going to be really powerful to you, so congratulations.”

“Since making his Opry debut more than a decade ago, Chris Young has won legions of fans around the world and has earned the honest respect of his industry peers,” said Opry General Manager Sally Williams. “Both are evident every time Chris plays the Opry, as our audiences light up and his fellow artists watch from the wings. Chris has an incredible passion and love for the Opry; he lauds its past and is excited about its future. He continues to make significant contributions to country music and to his community, and we could not be more excited to officially welcome Chris to his musical home with his Opry induction in October.”

Earlier in the evening, BMI songwriters Young, Gill, Brad and Brett Warren, were surrounded by music industry friends and supporters inside Studio A at the Grand Ole Opry House to celebrate the chart-topping success of “Sober Saturday Night” from Young’s ACM Album of the Year nominated 5th record, I’m Comin’ Over. Written by Young with The Warren Brothers, “Sober Saturday Night” marks the ninth #1 for Young as an artist. RCA Records Nashville also presented Young with an award for R.I.A.A. Platinum certification of his acclaimed album Neon and plaques for R.I.A.A. certified singles “Think Of You” (Platinum) and “Sober Saturday Night” (Gold), bringing his total tally to 16 Gold and Platinum certifications.

Chris Young Delivers New Single, “Losing Sleep”

After earning multiple ACM, BBMA, CMA, Grammy and RDMA nominations and scoring three consecutive chart-topping singles – including his ninth No. 1 “Sober Saturday Night” with Vince Gill – from his “excellent” (New York Times) album I’m Comin’ Over, CHRIS YOUNG has set the bar even higher with the release of his brand new single, “Losing Sleep.”  Delivered overnight to country radio and retailers, the song shot immediately to the No. 2 spot on the iTunes Country chart within hours of release.

“I continue to be blown away by the response to my last record and it makes me push myself even harder in the studio and onstage,” said Chris. “With every new album I think I want to try and write something easier and not so high in my register, but of course, on ‘Losing Sleep’ we push the boundaries even further and layer in some fun, new grooves too.”

With bare, flawless vocals that lead into a bold, explosive chorus, “Losing Sleep” is the lead single from the RCA Records Nashville artist’s hotly anticipated seventh album due later this year. The song is written by Young with Josh Hoge and Chris DeStefano and marks the Grammy-nominated singer’s third time co-producing with Corey Crowder. Named “one of his era’s finest traditionalists” by the Associated Press, Young’s upcoming record will be his third project in less than two years, including 2015’s critically acclaimed I’m Comin’ Over and 2016’s It Must Be Christmas.

With a hit-packed set that highlights his nine chart-toppers — including “Gettin’ You Home,” “Voices,” “Tomorrow,” “I’m Comin’ Over” and “Think Of You,” — and fifteen Gold/Platinum certified projects, Chris has joined reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year Jason Aldean as special guest on his They Don’t Know Tour through October before resuming his own headlining dates later this year.
