Mayor Karl Dean Gives Sneak Peek Of Massive Music City Center

Music City Center

The massive hallway featuring the custom “sound wave” carpet

Perhaps you’ve noticed there has been some construction going on in downtown Nashville… That will all come to fruition next week as the extravagant Music City Center opens its doors. Upon touring this massive, yet beautifully artistic Nashville centerpiece, one can’t help but frequently gaze around in awe.

Mayor Karl Dean gave a sneak peek of the new convention center to the media on Wednesday, noticeably proud of the biggest municipal project in Tennessee history. From the 6,000-person Grand Ballroom modeled after the inside of a guitar to the $2 million art budget, the Music City Center is sure to impress and deliver grand results for the city.

A point emphasized on Mayor Dean’s tour was that this building has not been built with an “if you build it, they will come” frame of mind. To the contrary, this was a necessary step, because they’re already coming.

Lee Greenwood: American Patriot

Lee Greenwood

On the 29th anniversary of “God Bless the USA” being released to radio, it is only fitting that today would be the day the Lee Greenwood: American Patriot exhibit be revealed at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The spotlight exhibit incorporates numerous artifacts and memorabilia spanning the artist’s 50 years in the business.

“Everything in here signifies a special moment of my career,” said Greenwood. “I could tell you a story behind each and every one of them… but this is just a small portion.”

And a story for each is no stretch of the imagination if you’ve ever spoken to Lee Greenwood. The man has a million stories, a photographic memory, and loves to talk. When asked about which artifact in the expansive display stood out to him the most, he brought me over to his 1994 award for winning Wheel of Fortune Music Stars Week, and proceeded to tell me the entire fascinating story.

A Vintage Affair

 A Vintage Affair

I recently attended A Vintage Affair at The Factory in Franklin on Friday, April 19th sponsored by First Tennessee Bank.  What a great event and turnout! Hundreds of items to bid on in the silent and live auction, great food from area restaurants and great wine to taste.   It was a wonderful and elegant event! Be sure to be on the lookout for this event next year.  You don’t want to miss it, and it’s all for a good cause!

A Vintage Affair is a non profit 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to raising money for Williamson County charities benefiting women and children in need. In order to fulfill the goal of helping out neighbors in need, AVA hosts various events throughout the year which include: wine, spirit & food tastings, A Fashion Affair – our fashion show, and The Grape Stomp at Animalia. Since its inception in 2001, AVA has contributed over one million dollars to local non profit organizations. Each year AVA chooses several deserving beneficiaries from the community to receive the proceeds for that fiscal year.
