My First Professional Soccer Game Experience With Captain Morgan And Nashville SC

This past Saturday night I was invited by sponsor Captain Morgan to enjoy the season opening of Nashville SC vs. Atlanta United FC with them. It was also their first game held at Nissan Stadium.

First, let me be completely honest, I am not a big sports fan. I’ve attended many sporting events in my lifetime, but I end up socializing with whomever I am with more than watching the actual game. This goes back to my high school days spent in the marching band when I was required to be at every football game, yet rarely knew who even won. What can I say, I’m a little ADD and easily distracted! ha

Despite it being cold out, it was a nice, clear evening. I thoroughly enjoyed the fun tailgate party prior to the game with the folks at Captain Morgan. They really did it up right with their area that included photo ops in a fun swing area, games, an actual pirate posing for pictures, and serving some tasty rum. Your choice since left it up to the customer to add their mixer to the rum or not, plus a choice of fruit slices to add. I went full on pineapple with my rum along with a pineapple slice.

The fun did not end there, as the night was just beginning as we made our way to their suite on the top floor of the stadium. Not only did I enjoy the best, most comfortable seat in the house, in my opinion, to watch the game, but we were treated to a nice spread of tasty food that included sandwiches, hot dogs, hot wings, and sausage with sauerkraut. Plenty of vegetables and snacks to much on throughout the game, too. They were also so kind to send me an official Nashville SC t-shirt and my own bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum to enjoy anytime I want that arrived at my doorstep a few hours before the game. What a treat!

Nashville SC is partnering with Captain Morgan for the 2020 Major League Soccer season including Inter Miami CF, Los Angeles FC, Minnesota United joining existing partners D.C. United, New York City FC, Philadelphia Union and Seattle Sounders FC as partners of the official spiced rum of MLS.

“We couldn’t be more pleased about being in partnership with such a globally recognized drinks brand as Captain Morgan,” said Nashville SC CEO Ian Ayre. “Their activations in MLS to date mirror the energy, tribalism and fun elements, that we aim to create around our games and our club. We have talked a lot about creating a uniquely Nashville culture, and about our games being a festival of soccer. Having a brand like Captain Morgan in the heart of all of that is a fantastic win for both of us.”

Later in the season, limited-edition Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum bottles featuring the club’s colors and crest will be available for purchase, so look for those to come soon.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game with the nice folks at Captain Morgan and hope to get the opportunity to attend again. I think I am becoming a bit of a soccer fan now. I love that Nashville has another professional sports franchise to enjoy. The city seems to really be embracing the new soccer team since despite cold temperatures, the stadium was close to being full. I think as temperatures warm up, they’ll be even more fans. There were definitely a lot of diehards with their drums and chants. I loved the energy! I highly-recommend buying a ticket, which are reasonably-priced, and checking out a game very soon.

Thank you so much for inviting me, Captain Morgan! I had a great time, plus love my t-shirt and your always tasty rum.

If You Are A Fan Of 90’s Country & Dierks Bentley, You Will love Hot Country Knights

Brilliant! If you’re like me and miss the 90’s country sound, you’re going to love what Dierks Bentley and friends are up to now.

With their debut single featuring country icon Travis Tritt, “Pick Her Up”, Hot Country Knights is bringing back the popular 90’s country sound with a tongue in cheek approach by infusing a comedic element into it.

Obviously, if you are going to bring back some 90’s country, you need some mullets and line dancing, too. You get all that and so much more. This first single is upbeat, fun, and takes you straight back to the 90’s with a special appearance by Travis Tritt. I am hoping they keep bringing more country stars back who were popular in the 90’s to continue with a fun revival.

“The sound behind ‘Pick Her Up’ is Hot Country Knights 101…it’s so hot that I have advised the radio promotion department at UMG to wear oven mitts when delivering it to Country radio,” said lead singer Doug Douglason (aka Dierks Bentley). “Travis is an old buddy of ours…we go way back and everybody knows when you need a hit…you call Tritt. We appreciate his support and all our friends in the biz that are coming together right now to help us finally get our shot.”

This is just what country needs right now, and I’m here for it! Loving the music and the humor. Can’t wait to hear the full album!

About Hot Country Knights

Famous for never giving up on the dream of the ‘90s, the Hot Country Knights are comprised of band leader Douglas (“Doug”) Douglason, lead bass player Trevor Travis, lead guitarist Marty Ray (“Rayro”) Roburn, keytar/fiddle player Terotej (“Terry”) Dvoraczekynski, steel guitarist Barry Van Ricky and percussionist Monte Montgomery. With tongue firmly in cheek, The Hot Country Knights revive a comedic element which has long been integral to the Country genre, but has rarely been seen since the days of Grand Ole Opry stars like String Bean Akeman, Minnie Pearl and others. As dedicated road warriors, they’ve basically lived out of a van their entire existence. For more information on The Hot Country Knights visit www.hotcountryknights.com.

From The Stage To The Hospital And A Courageous Return To The Stage With Purpose: The Story Of Charity Bomb And Strange 90s Nashville

Back in 2010, Matthew Leone, the bassist for rock band Madina Lake, could have never imagined the turn his life would take. Leone was in Chicago at the time when he heard a woman screaming for help and spotted her being attacked by a man with blood clearly visible. He knew that he had to do something to help in this dire situation.

Matthew Leone was able to subdue the attacker, but while he was calling the police, the man managed to free himself and brutally attacked the unsuspecting bassist leaving him with a fractured skull, broken nose, and fractured jaw. He ended up in the hospital in a coma for several days after that where doctors removed one-third of his skull to deal with the swelling he incurred from the beating. It took him several months to recover from his injuries.

Turns out, it was a domestic situation between a husband and wife after he accused her of cheating. Surprisingly, he was found not guilty in court. Something that could very easily turn anyone negative considering everything that that Leone went through and how his life had been effected.

After recovering from his injuries and dealing with this life-changing event, Leone had a new-found appreciation for life and a desire to make a difference by focusing on doing something positive. It was from this that Leone co-founded Charity Bomb with his twin brother, Nathan (lead singer of Madina Lake) and a lifelong friend in 2018.

Charity Bomb is an unconventional, disruptive charitable organization that marries passion, innovation and hard work to fundraise and produce custom benefit events for a variety of causes and charities.

From Charity Bomb, Strange 80s was launched in Los Angeles last year. Now, they are set to launch Strange 90s in Nashville tomorrow night.

Strange 90s Nashville—a benefit concert presented by Charity Bomb and AEG Presents.  Strange 90s Nashville will feature a confluence of musicians, songwriters, country artists and rock stars collaborating to perform the anthems of this golden decade in a real-life recreation of the era. Confirmed performers include Jeffrey Steele, Ira Dean (Trick Pony), Matt Warren, James Otto and Dez Dickerson (The Revolution), Leigh Nash (Sixpence None the Richer), Jennie Vee (Eagles of Death Metal), Nick Wheeler (The All American Rejects), A.Jay & Jeremy Popoff (Lit) and more.

In addition to once in a lifetime performances, the evening will feature amazing opportunities for concert-goers to time warp back to the 90s complete with Tony Hawk Pro-Skater 360 Virtual Reality Experiences, Saved By the Bell pop-up Diner, Vans Skate ramps, iconic 90’s accessories and costume giveaways, live graffiti walls and more.

Doors open at 630pm, show begins at 8pm on Saturday, November 23rd at Marathon Music Works near downtown Nashville. For tickets, go to https://www.strange90s.com/ where currently offering 2 for 1 tickets.

All proceeds will go to Nashville organization The Beat of Life, providing therapeutic songwriting and music programs with the most talented musicians teaching children and inmates how to write and perform music as a preventive and coping mechanism.

YouTube Originals Premiering “The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash” Documentary For Free Monday, November 11th at 11am Central

I am going to admit it, I am a sucker for a good documentary and just had the opportunity to watch an advance screening of the new YouTube Originals documentary “The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash”.

This well-done documentary builds around the FOLSOM PRISON album that was recorded live with Johnny Cash performing in front of prisoners housed at prison. Viewers are treated to first hand stories and interviews with family and celebrated collaborators throughout.

I especially enjoyed learning about his humble beginnings in a small town living on a farm in Arkansas. Johnny Cash resonates with me a lot because my dad loved to listen to his music and their upbringings were very similar. My dad also grew up in a small town in Arkansas called Star City on a farm pretty much at the same time Johnny Cash did in a large family of 12 children. He used to also tell me that he loved to listen to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio as a kid. So, I see both Johnny Cash and my dad when watching this, including when both left their small town roots and joined the Air Force. Lots of similarities! Sadly, both of them have been gone for several years now.

I think you will enjoy this very much as a country music fan, Johnny Cash fan, or just a fan of documentaries. You can watch it for free starting on Monday, November 11th at 11AM Central / 12PM Eastern on YouTube. It was created with the full cooperation of the Cash estate and it is filled with recently discovered archival materials giving you a real glance into who Johnny Cash was aside from being a country music legend. More so than you got even from the award-winning bio pic several years ago, “Walk The Line”. It is a deeper dive into his life from the people who knew him best.

The 90-minute documentary from Emmy Award-winning director Thom Zimny (Elvis Presley: The Searcher, Springsteen on Broadway) explores the artistic victories, the personal tragedies, the struggles with addiction, and the spiritual pursuits that colored Johnny Cash’s life. The documentary was nominated for a 2019 IDA Documentary Award.

In celebration of the YouTube Originals documentary, The Johnny Cash Trust and The Best Fest, in partnership with YouTube, are also bringing fans the first-ever “Cash Fest,” an unprecedented charity concert for MusiCares in Nashville at the War Memorial Auditorium on November 10th honoring the music of the legendary Johnny Cash. More information on “Cash Fest” and tickets can be found here.

Tune-In to “The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash” beginning Monday, November 11 at 11AM CT / 12PM ET and continuously run available for free on YouTube

ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY:

“The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash” is directed by Thom Zimny and produced by Thom Zimny, Glen Zipper, Sean Stuart and Jillian Apfelbaum. Frank Marshall, Ryan Suffern, Jeff Pollack, John Carter Cash, Josh Matas, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Ryan Friedkin and Jasmine Daghighian serve as executive producers. The documentary is an Imperative Entertainment and Kennedy/Marshall production in association with Sutter Road Picture Company and The John R Cash Trust. The original composition for this project was composed and performed by Mike McCready. The documentary originally made its debut in March at the SXSW Film Festival and also screened recently at the 50th Annual Nashville Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival as part of the event’s Backlot Series. The Gift: The Journey Of Johnny Cash: Original Score Music From A Film By Thom Zimny, will be released in November by Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment.

“The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash” joins a robust slate of music-focused YouTube Originals including recent hits like “How to Be: Mark Ronson,” “Taylor Swift – Lover’s Lounge (Live),” “MALUMA: Lo Que Era, Lo Que Soy, Lo Que Seré,” “Ariana Grande: Dangerous Woman Diaries” and “Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated,” and forthcoming projects including “Coldplay: Everyday Life – Live in Jordan,” which premieres on YouTube on November 22.

“Icy” is her latest single and newest video off her 12-track summer release, CLARITY. With the infectious beats and ethereal sound, it instantly grabbed my attention as a new listener and made me a fan of her music. It’s a song about Kim breaking the confines of a toxic relationship to become a stronger, independent version of herself whose vulnerabilities have frozen over.

“I wanted the visual to feel fresh and signify becoming a stronger version of myself,” says Kim on the video. “The video starts with me feeling trapped and watched in a glass box, but as it progresses, I escape and evolve into a bionic version of myself through the pain of heartbreak.”

Album Review: Miranda Lambert | WILDCARD

Pull up your bar stool and get ready, folks! Miranda Lambert just released her seventh solo album, WILDCARD, today. It features 14 tracks full of grit, sass, and depth as only Miranda can deliver. Available for purchase on her website and all online retailers.

I was lucky enough to be able to attend an advance live preview of this album despite being way under the weather that day, but it was Miranda, so I showed up. I have been excited about it ever since, and could not wait for her fans to hear it. In short, the album is stellar, and pure Miranda Lambert.

I have always loved her sass, spunk, and honesty. What you see is what you get with Miranda. She continues to release great music reminiscent of country greats like Loretta Lynn with a Texas twist and that fire mixed with playfulness that is pure Miranda Lambert that appeals to both traditionalists and new country fans alike.

Favorites off the album are: “Mess With My Head”, “Holy Water”, “It All Comes Out In The Wash”, “Tequila Does”, the poignant “Bluebird”, and the fun “Way Too Pretty For Prison” with Maren Morris. To be honest, I could probably just go straight down the list and tell you what I love about each and every track. It is THAT good.

With the women of country music struggling to get radio airplay and the days of artists stopping by retailers like Wal-Mart gone since they are not really carrying physical cds anymore due to the shift towards digital music and streaming, Lambert worries how she will get her music heard and out to the masses. As with artists of all genres, not just country, the way now to get the music out there and to be able to continue making it is through persistent touring since they can not rely on album sales anymore.

I hope as long as she can, that she continues making music and her fans continue to support her. Buy the album and see her perform live in a town near you.

Also, catch her on some of these upcoming TV appearances:

Friday (11/1), she’ll hit NBC’s “TODAY” and ABC’s “The View” and Sunday (11/3) she’ll chat with “Sunday TODAY” host Willie Geist for the Sunday Sitdown.

Later Friday night, Lambert will perform an intimate Wildcard set and chat with iHeartRadio’s Brooke Taylor during the “iHeartCountry Album Release Party with Miranda Lambert” at the iHeartRadio Theater in New York City. Fans can tune into a radio broadcast on iHeartMedia’s Mainstream Country radio stations and a 30-minute video stream on iHeartRadio.com/MirandaLambert on Nov. 6 at 7:00

Rated: 5 out of 5 stars

Monument Records’ Teddy Robb Impresses At The High Watt

You may not recognize his name (yet) but if you listen to country music radio, you know his voice. It’s the thick, sultry, and slightly raspy voice of Teddy Robb begging you not to “Lead Me On.” The newcomer recently performed at the High Watt.

Teddy Robb

The High Watt is an intimate, industrial-style venue located in Nashville’s Historic Cannery building. Bartenders greeted concert-goers with the signature drink called the “Gin and Platonic” which is a nod to lyrics in the song, “Really Shouldn’t Drink Around You.” By the start of the show, the venue was near capacity as fans squeezed in for a better look at the Monument Records artist.

The Akron, Ohio native first picked up a guitar 10 years ago, and has since sang his way from hometown open mic nights to the Broadway bar scene. His voice was quickly noticed by Nashville talent scouts and soon he was performing for larger audiences, writing with Grammy Award-winning songwriters (Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne wrote “Really Shouldn’t Drink Around You”), and opening for Pat Green, Carly Pearce, and Russell Dickerson. Not to mention his debut song “Lead Me On” is playing on country music radio stations across the country. Robb performed the two previously mentioned hits as well as a new song titled “Tell Me How.”

Robb’s journey is one that many musicians take; dropping everything to move the Nashville for a shot at becoming a star. Few are as successful, and as talented, as Robb. If the energy at the concert is any indication of Robb’s popularity, then the future is looking good for this up and coming artist.
