Luke Combs BMI Party Kicks Off CMA Fest 2022

After a 2 year halt, CMA Fest kicked things off with a high energy parking lot show on Music Row at the legendary BMI Nashville headquarters, celebrating the massively successful run of number one songs from Luke Combs.

Combs wanted to kick off CMA Fest this year with a No. 1 party unlike any before — and all were invited.

The perennial hitmaker celebrated his eight consecutive chart-topping country radio hits June 8 with a one-night concert from the BMI parking lot in Nashville’s Music Rowneighborhood. The show happened a day before A-list country entertainers take up a four-night residency in downtown Nashville with the return of CMA Fest.

Combs was joined onstage by openers Hailey Whittier’s , Drew Parker and fellow songwriters Randy Montana, James McNair, Dan Isbell, Thomas Archer, Wyatt Durrette, Ray Fulcher, Shane Minor, Tyler Reeve, Jonathan Singleton and Rob Williford. The collaborators performed Combs’ seven chart-toppers from the 2019 “What You See Is What You Get” album: “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” “Even Though I’m Leaving,” “Does to Me,” “Lovin’ on You,” “Better Together,” Forever After All” and “Cold as You,” as well as “Beautiful Crazy” from the deluxe version of his debut album, “This One’s For You Too.”

Proceeds from the BMI Parking Lot Party benefited the BMI Foundation, a nonprofit that supports the creation, performance and study of music through awards, scholarships, grants and commissions.

The event was a huge success, proving that country music supporters desire to connect with one another through live performances and engagement. The future looks bright, not only for CMA Fest, but for all live music events and festivals  rebuilding and reconnecting the listeners and artists, giving hope to an industry and culture that has suffered a huge loss after a long anticipated comeback.

Miranda Lambert’s PALOMINO Primed For Release This Friday, April 29

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – As lead single “If I Was A Cowboy” climbs the Top 20 at Country radio, reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year Miranda Lambert is set to release her eighth solo album, Palomino, this Friday, April 29 via Vanner Records/RCA Records Nashville/Sony Music Nashville. Pre-order / pre-save HERE.

“The making of this record has been one of the most fun and creative experiences of my career,” reflects the Texan songstress. “Luke Dick, Natalie Hemby and I went out to my farm in Tennessee in 2020 and started writing songs… We figured, while we have time, let’s get out to the country and see what happens. The first one we wrote was ‘Tourist’ and that set us on a path to create something with a bit of a theme. Since we couldn’t travel at the time, we decided to go on a journey through songs… I hope y’all are ready to travel with us wandering spirits and meet some cool characters with great stories.”

In the May print issue on stands now, Rolling Stone declares “Country music’s most ambitious artist keeps following her freewheeling spirit” on the new album, which displays “the country star’s reputation for stylistic risks” via “a multi-hued batch of songs about movement and characters who drift from place to place – sometimes because they want to, sometimes because they have to.” Yahoo Entertainment also offered early praise for Palomino, including the project in this week’s “It List” and noting that “this trailblazer once again confounds expectations and pushes musical boundaries.”

Visiting 30+ locations and countless characters along the way, the expansive 15-song project takes listeners on a freewheeling trek from the Mojave Desert to Battambang, Cambodia and everywhere in between. Lambert serves as a co-writer on 14 of the 15 songs, with the only outside cut arriving via a rousing cover of Mick Jagger’s “Wandering Spirit.”

With all seven of her previous solo albums debuting at No. 1 and recent collaborative project The Marfa Tapes earning her a sixth GRAMMY nod for Best Country Album, both Vulture and USA Today named Palomino among the most anticipated projects this year, with the latter recognizing the 37-time ACM Award winner’s “progressive sound” and celebrating her as “always a bit of a country maverick.”

Lambert will celebrate the release of the eagerly awaited album by kicking off a spring run of shows this week, including a headlining appearance at Nashville’s FirstBank Amphitheater on the eve of the album, before launching her co-headlining The Bandwagon Tour with Little Big Town in her home state of Texas next Friday, May 6.

For more information, visit www.MirandaLambert.com and follow on social media @MirandaLambert.

About Miranda Lambert

Set for release April 29, Palomino, the eighth solo album from Vanner Records/RCA Nashville superstar Miranda Lambert, is the latest installment in a storied career that has spanned seven consecutive No. 1 solo albums, 10 No. 1 hit radio singles, more than 70 prestigious awards and countless sales certifications, earning the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year praise from NPR as “the most riveting country star of her generation.”

Following 2019’s critically acclaimed release of her GRAMMY Award-winning album, Wildcard, the Texas native ushered in her next musical era with the recent release of Palomino lead single “If I Was a Cowboy” (currently climbing the Top 20 at Country radio), while also adding her voice to Netflix’s new season of Queer Eye with inclusive anthem “Y’all Means All.” She is set to hit the road on The Bandwagon Tour with Little Big Town this spring and will kick off her Velvet Rodeo Las Vegas residency at the Zappos Theater at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in September.

In addition to Wildcard, the celebrated singer/songwriter’s lauded discography includes The Weight of These Wings (2016), Platinum (2014), Four The Record (2011), Revolution (2009), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2007) and Kerosene (2005). She has also released three albums with her trio, the Pistol Annies, as well as 2021’s The Marfa Tapes, a critically acclaimed and GRAMMY-nominated, raw and intimate recording with collaborators Jack Ingram and Jon Randall.

The most decorated artist in the history of the Academy of Country Music, Lambert has earned 37 ACM Awards (including the current ACM Entertainer of the Year title and a record-setting nine consecutive Female Artist of the Year Awards), 14 CMA Awards, three GRAMMY Awards, the Nashville Symphony Harmony Award, ACM Gene Weed Milestone Award and ACM Song of the Decade Award, plus was named 2019’s RIAA Artist of the Year. She is the youngest artist ever to serve as the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum’s Artist in Residence, joining a legendary list of predecessors including Kris Kristofferson, Guy Clark, Tom T. Hall, Jerry Douglas and more.

Her clothing and cowboy boot collection, Idyllwind, is a private-label brand sold at all Boot Barn stores nationwide. For more information, visit www.idyllwind.com.

Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit has raised over $6 million since its inception in 2009. The Foundation’s mission is to promote the adoption of rescue pets, support animal shelters across the country, advance spay & neuter and assist with the transport of animals during times of natural disaster. NASHVILLE, TN (April 26, 2022) – With a passion for music and animals, TYLER RICH brings energy and empathic spirit to both. Last night (4/26) the California-raised, Nashville-rooted singer/songwriter led a round called WRITERS FOR RHINOS alongside ANDY ALBERT (Blake Shelton’s “She’s Got A Way With Words” + Dustin Lynch’s No. 1 “Good Girl”); CJ SOLAR (chart-toppers Morgan Wallen “Up Down” featuring Florida Georgia Line + Jameson Rodgers “Some Girls”); AIMP Nashville Songwriter Series class of 2019 EMILY FALVEY (Canadian No. 1 MacKenzie Porter’s “Seeing Other People” + upcoming cuts for Pitbull, Walker Hayes, Carly Pearce) and TRENT TOMLINSON (“Drunker Than Me,” “One Wing in the Fire,” “Just Might Have Her Radio On” + Brett Young’s No. 1 “In Case You Didn’t Know”). The esteemed tunesmiths sold out the annual event at The Listening Room in Nashville, which supports rhino conservation in partnership with the Nashville Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers, Rich Rescues and Nashville Zoo Roar Corps. Donate here.

“Now in our third year, we could not be more thrilled to have such a talented group of musicians lend their voices to help save an endangered species. WRITERS FOR RHINOS is such an important fundraising event for our mission to protect Rhinos for generations to come, and we want to express our sincere gratitude to Tyler, Andy, CJ, Emily, Trent and all who joined for this special event,” said ASHLEY COLLIER-MEDLEY, WRITERS FOR RHINOS Founder.

Tyler has commanded the charts with three No. 1 hits on SiriusXM’s The Highway and has amassed over 365 million global streams with his GOLD-certified single “The Difference,” TikTok earwarm “Better Than You’re Used To” and The Cadillac Three’s Jaren Johnston-produced “A Little Bit of You.” His music embodies the feelings all people have in common – the need for acceptance, devotion and a place to call their own. That compassionate outlook extends to animals too with an initiative he began while on tour to raise awareness for pet adoption called with Rich Rescues.

“I’ve never tried to save a Rhino, but I’m happy to be a part of it. They are kind of like Pitbull unicorns,” said Tyler jovially addressing the capacity room. “In all seriousness, the need to protect animals whether it be at your local shelter or more exotic species across the globe is real and a big reason I started Rich Rescues to advocate out on tour. Any time I can support this cause, I’m all in.”

A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS Live On Stage At TPAC Through December 22nd

Cast of A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS Live On Stage playing at TPAC.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS Live On Stage that is currently running through December 22nd in downtown Nashville at TPAC.  I thought might be a little too geared for the kids for me to really enjoy and would probably be completely surrounded by kids, too.

Well, I was wrong and I’m so happy that theatrical productions are back after the start of the pandemic.  You will have to wear a mask and provide proof of vaccine or negative COVID-19 test to attend, but these are minor inconveniences done for the safety of all involved and the audience so we can still enjoy these types of live events.

I really enjoyed this musical based on the beloved Christmas classic cartoon that has aired on TV since 1965.  Yes, there were a lot of kids as expected, but it was mostly adults in the theater.   It’s meant for all to enjoy.

The whole show was well done.  Maybe not eye catching and dazzling costumes, but a talented cast performing this family-friendly Christmas treasure.  I really liked the unexpected intro/opening segment.  The scene with Lucy fantasizing about being the Christmas Pagent Queen was fun and the Christmas pagent itself was a really nice treat.  My favorite part of the show was watching all the antics of Snoopy.  He’s always the best part of the cartoon and steals this live show, as well.

Don’t miss this endearing live stage production this holiday season that gets to the heart of what Christmas is really all about.  There is only one day left to see it, so you better act fast by getting your tickets at: www.tpac.org!

2020 CMT Music Awards Recap

Morgan Wallen performs inside a cave near Nashville for CMT Music Awards.

This year has been so different in every way, including the 2020 CMT Music Awards held last night in Nashville and surrounding areas, not only for the audience, but for the artists, as well.  Hosted by Sarah Hyland, Kane Brown, and Ashley McBryde, what sets it apart from the ACM Awards and CMA Awards is it is the only country music awards show that is fully fan voted.

Usually, the CMT Music Awards are held one day prior to the start of CMA Music Festival in June at Bridgestone Arena in front of a full audience with most of the country music industry in attendance.  This year, there was no red carpet, no live audience, and no press at any of the various on-site locations.

There was a Ram Trucks sponsored fan viewing party with several emerging artists (Mickey Guyton, Travis Denning, Ingrid Andress, Caylee Hammack, Riley Green, and HARDY) that a few lucky fans got to attend outside in downtown Nashville near the Cumberland River.  Production staff was very careful to make sure all wore masks, socially distanced, no large crowd, and held outside.  It looked like a fun time for those in attendance for some great performances from the Ram Trucks stage.  You can view full performances from each of the artists HERE.

Opening the night was a fun collaboration with Luke Combs and Brooks & Dunn singing “1, 2 Many” live together for the first time.

Just so many standout moments from the night like Breakthrough Video of the Year winner, Gabby Barrett, with her #1 hit, “I Hope”.   Ashley McBryde always brings something special to every performance.   live from Switzerland.  Jennifer Nettles being honored with the first CMT Equal Play award as an advocate for the women of country music who have been struggling for the last several years to be heard on country radio.

Carrie Underwood ended up, unsurprisingly, being the biggest winner of the night winning both Female Video of the Year and Video of the Year.

Little Big Town wrapped up the night with their newest release, “Wine, Beer, Whiskey”.  There were so many standout performances, but this was my favorite of the night.  I love their fine-tuned harmonies, their energy, and this song is a jam that I want to keep on repeat.  A clip of their performance is below, but for the full performance, go HERE.

The CMT Music Awards is always one of my favorite events of the year.  Even though 2020 with the pandemic changed many things, it was still a night to remember.  Great production and performances.

New To Nashville: Lucky Bastard Saloon And Nashville Hot Chicken Shack

Hot chicken at Nashville Hot Chicken Shack on rooftop of Lucky Bastard Saloon. Photo credit: Isaac Lord

It has been a tumultuous time this summer for businesses on Nashville’s Broadway strip, causing a questionable future for most of downtown’s restaurants and bars.

Located in the former Bailey’s Sports Grille building at 408 Broadway, Lucky Bastard Saloon continues to breathe some encouraging new life downtown with exceptional live music and food!

Upon arriving, we were impressed with the spaciousness and table distancing measures taken into account.  Nashville Hot Chicken Shack (located on the rooftop) was what we came to experience, but the energy of the live music was a refreshing reminder of what this city is all about.

Hot chicken is not meant to be fancy or complicated and that is exactly what the menu reflects.  We started with the Nashville Beer Queso and some fried pickle spears, with full intent of collaborating the two.  The pickles were packed with crisp, crunchy freshness and the queso was incredible, spiked with roasted green chiles, tomatoes, chipotle peppers and beer. Topped with habanero hot sauce and fresh cilantro, served with a side of tortilla chips. The ultimate test though, dipping the pickles in the queso….You have to try it!!

We decided to try the mildest and the hottest of the tenders.  With an array of sides to choose from, we ordered the black-eyed-pea salad, fries and the hot mac-n-cheese.  The chicken was not miserably hot, but definitely packs its own punch.  Both the mild and hot tenders were moist, delicious and breaded to perfection.

With a diverse enough menu that includes building your own burger, catfish and one entree called the Nashville Hangover (a waffle topped with Nashville Hot Chicken tenders, and two fried eggs sunny side up. Served with a side of pecan honey butter and syrup) even if you are not a fan of hot chicken, there are still quite a few options to choose from.
