In recognition of the undeniable influence and impact of female artists in country music, CMT today announced that for the first-time ever the annual “CMT Artists of the Year” special is dedicated to the women of country music—past, present and future. This year’s all-female “Artists of the Year” celebration will honor CarrieUnderwood, Miranda LambertKelsea BalleriniMaren Morris, Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman, and Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott. The 90-minute special will premiere on Wednesday, October 17 at 8:00 PM, ET/PT only on CMT.

“This year, we’re evolving the special to reflect what’s happening right now in culture and in the lives of our fans,” said Leslie Fram, Senior Vice President of Music & Talent, CMT.“In this monumental year for women, dedicating one of the biggest nights in the genre to applaud female country artists not only solidifies our commitment, but we hope will spark a much-needed change in the industry.”

As in past years, the event will feature surprise musical pairings and guests that will be announced at a later date. In addition, CMT will further its commitment to female artists through a day-long “Women of Country Music” takeover across all CMT platforms where music lives including music hours on CMT, the 24/7 digital channel CMT Music and CMT Radio’s widely-syndicated shows “CMT Radio LIVE” and “CMT After Midnite” to encourage and inspire increased female airplay on October 17.

Dynamic Entertainer Ginny Owens Celebrates First Week Success Of Single “Stand With Me”

Dynamic entertainer and multiple award-winning artist Ginny Owens became a household name when she was named the Gospel Music Association’s “New Artist of the Year” in 2000. In a meaningful career that now encompasses nearly two decades of music – including 10 full-length recordings, three EPs, a popular Christmas album, number one radio singles, and numerous film and television placements – the critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter is now celebrating the recent release of her single“Stand With Me” feat. Resound. With a total playlisting reach of over 4.5 million impressions on Spotify & Pandora, “Stand With Me” received first week adds to premiere playlists including New Music Friday (2.8 million impressions) and Top Christian (982,000 impressions).

Owens reacts to the first week success: “’Stand With Me’ is one of those songs you have the honor of writing. My co-writers and I knew it was special even as we crafted it, and I’m thankful to know so many listeners think so too. I hope this means we’ll all be working to break down the barriers between us and learn to stand together.”

Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, a degenerative eye condition left Ginny completely blind by the tender age of three. As her vision diminished, her love of music and the piano expanded, and Ginny discovered songwriting as a window into her unseen world. The unique perspectives inspired by her vision impairment have resulted in inspirational lyrics paired with her diverse musicianship to afford her a space on an even more diverse set of stages, including the Sundance Film Festival, Lilith Fair and the White House, and recordings that transcend genre expectations.

About Ginny Owens: A 3-time Dove Award winner, Ginny’s songs have also been recorded by popular artists like Michael W. Smith, JJ Heller and Rachael Lampa, and the sought-after songstress was commissioned to write the song, “Fly Away,” for the 2017 film, Trafficked– a song that found itself among the song selections considered for the Academy Awards ballot for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture earlier this year. Ginny is also an author, co-authoring Transcending Mysteries, published by Harper Collins in 2015, and the multi-faceted performer also hosts a popular video blog entitled, “How I See It,” in which Owens helps viewers understand the ins-and-outs of living day-to-day life as a blind person. Salon@615: Special Edition presents An Evening with Sally Field at Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s Polk Theater on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018. The two-time Academy Award winning and three-time Emmy Award-winning star of Gidget,” “Norma Rae,” “Places in the Heart,” “Steel Magnolias,” and more will discuss her new memoir, “In Pieces.”

Tickets for An Evening with Sally Field are on sale now at TPAC.org, by phone at 615-782-4040, and the TPAC Box Office, 505 Deaderick St., in downtown Nashville.

Each ticket will include a signed copy of Field’s book, “In Pieces,” an intimate and haunting literary memoir in which the American icon writes about a challenging and lonely childhood, the craft that helped her find her voice, and a powerful emotional legacy that shaped her journey as a daughter and a mother.

One of the most celebrated, beloved and enduring actors of our time, Field has portrayed dozens of iconic roles on both the large and small screens. Yet, there is one character who always remained hidden: the shy and anxious little girl within. With all the humility and authenticity her fans have come to expect, Field brings readers behind the scenes for not only the highs and lows of her star-studded early career in Hollywood, but deep into the truth of her lifelong relationships – including her complicated love for her own mother.

Powerful and unforgettable, “In Pieces” is an inspiring and important account of life as a woman in the second half of the twentieth century.

Field’s infectious charm has captivated the nation for more than five decades, beginning with her first TV role at the age of 17. From the sweet-faced “girl next door” on “Gidget” to the dazzling complexity of “Sybil” to the Academy Award-worthy ferocity and depth of “Norma Rae” and Mary Todd Lincoln, Field has stunned audiences time and time again with her artistic range and emotional acuity.

In 2012, she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and in 2015 she was honored by President Barack Obama with the National Medal of Arts. She has served on the Board of Directors of Vital Voices since 2002 and served on the Board of The Sundance Institute from 1994 to 2010. She has three sons and five grandchildren.

Runaway June’s Debut EP Available Now

Photo Credit: Kristin Barlowe / Design Credit: Glenn Sweitzer

Wheelhouse Records trio RUNAWAY JUNE, “a band that’s well on its way to Country music superstardom” (People.com), has a lot to celebrate today as its self-titled debut EP is available now at all digital retailers and streaming services. Produced by Dann Huff (Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett, Brett Young), and anchored by lead single “Buy My Own Drinks,” which Music Row Magazine praises as a “runaway hit,” the project has been eagerly-anticipated by critics and fans alike.

With their debut EP effort, critics have been propelled to declare, “it’s a rarity an act impresses so fully with their first rodeo, but Wayne, Cooke and Mulholland have already proven they defy the norm. They’re here to conquer,” (B-Sides and Badlands), while others note the ascending trio “is about to blow up…” (Whiskey Riff). Listen to the EP here.
“Buy My Own Drinks” was co-written by Runaway June’s Naomi Cooke, Hannah Mulholland and Jennifer Wayne along with Hillary Lindsey and Josh Kear. In addition to the ACM nominated group’s latest single, the EP also contains their previous Top 40 hit ”Wild West” and a fan favorite from their live show, Dwight Yoakam’s “Fast As You.”
“This is a group of songs that really expresses us as a band,” said Cooke. “We have been working on this project for two years and so many life changes have happened to us as people, and now more than ever we have songs that tell the stories of those moments.”
“The EP is a really fun and diverse look into our sound as a band. It incorporates the fun of the live show, but also shows some soft moments that fans can relate to,” added Mulholland.
Jennifer Wayne also noted of production, “Dann Huff has changed our lives. He’s completely zoned in our sound. He’s so collaborative and he’s such a joy to work with.”
“Buy My Own Drinks” officially impacted Country radio on 8/20. Creating an intoxicating buzz, the song exploded onto airwaves as the second most added song of the week.
Adding to the excitement, Runaway June continues to take Country music by storm as they prepare to support seven-time Grammy winner and Pollstar’s three-time top female country touring artist Carrie Underwood as she launches a new arena tour, The Cry Pretty Tour 360, in Spring 2019.  Sponsored by CALIA, the new tour will kick off on May 1 in Greensboro, NC, and will play 55 arenas across the U.S. and Canada and be promoted by AEG Presents.

Nashville Ballet Opens Season With Tchaikovsky Classic

Opening the organization’s 20th season under Paul Vasterling’s artistic direction, Nashville Ballet will present what’s commonly considered one of the greatest classical ballets of all time, Swan Lake, with three performances September 21-23, 2018 at TPAC’s Jackson Hall.

Drawing upon Russian folklore, Swan Lake transports audiences to a realm of lush romance to tell the tale of the beautiful, but cursed, maiden Odette. Forced to spend her days as a swan upon a desolate lake, Odette may only take her true form as a human in the darkest hours of the night. Without a vow of true love to break the wicked curse, Odette will never be free. This fan favorite features the challenging and highly coveted, dual role of Odette and Odile, the evil temptress crucial in determining the heroine’s fate.

Christopher Stuart and Kayla Rowser in Swan Lake in 2014 photo by Karyn Photography

His first ballet composed, Tchaikovsky began arranging Swan Lake in 1875 and premiered it in 1877. Twenty years after its inception, choreographers Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa’s 1895 revival staged the version that serves as the foundation for the quintessential ballet.

Last presented by Nashville Ballet in 2014, Swan Lake features choreographic updates from Artistic Director Paul Vasterling and Tchaikovsky’s iconic score performed live by the Nashville Symphony. With striking new costumes for Odette and the illustrious swan corps, Nashville Ballet offers a dazzling fresh take on this timeless masterpiece.

“The beauty, power and technical complexity of Swan Lake make it one of the most important ballets, both for dancers and the audience to experience,” Vasterling said. “Petipa and Ivanov’s choreography set a standard for grace and athleticism still inherent to ballet today; the new tutus for this production will highlight that standard and the strength of our Nashville Ballet artists on stage.”

Get swept away by the magic of Swan Lake by purchasing tickets in person at the TPAC box office in downtown Nashville, by phone at (615) 782-4040 or at www.nashvilleballet.com. The presenting sponsor for Swan Lake is Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund; supporting sponsors are Benefits, Inc. and Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance. A complete performance schedule and more information can be found at www.nashvilleballet.com/swan-lake.
