Lee Greenwood: American Patriot

Lee Greenwood

On the 29th anniversary of “God Bless the USA” being released to radio, it is only fitting that today would be the day the Lee Greenwood: American Patriot exhibit be revealed at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The spotlight exhibit incorporates numerous artifacts and memorabilia spanning the artist’s 50 years in the business.

“Everything in here signifies a special moment of my career,” said Greenwood. “I could tell you a story behind each and every one of them… but this is just a small portion.”

And a story for each is no stretch of the imagination if you’ve ever spoken to Lee Greenwood. The man has a million stories, a photographic memory, and loves to talk. When asked about which artifact in the expansive display stood out to him the most, he brought me over to his 1994 award for winning Wheel of Fortune Music Stars Week, and proceeded to tell me the entire fascinating story.

Pineapple Farm: Ziplining with The FARM at Fontanel

@TheFarmMusic: “Hey Matt … you up for ziplining w/ us tomorrow at Fontanel?

@mattwilliams615: “Absolutely.”

That was about it… a quick Twitter message had gotten me into a last-minute adventure with The Farm. I love those guys and had never been ziplining, so how could I say no? I had no idea what to expect, but it sure sounded fun!

It started with me, the band, and a bunch of strangers who quickly became friends. We were to be the first civilians on the newly installed lines, which will be open to the public tomorrow (5/3). And as we were being informed of this, a guy called Lunchbox walked up with a cast on his leg… awesome. (The cast was unrelated to ziplining, Lunchbox just happened to have impeccable timing.)

“All The Light In The Sky” Movie Review | Nashville Film Festival

All The Light In The Sky

All The Light In The Sky is a perfect hybrid of documentary and narrative. Don’t let me mislead you, the story was written out, the locations scouted, the actors cast… yet everything from the delivery of the lines, to the camera shots, to the plot itself was authentic to the point of being uncomfortable.

Jane Adams (who also co-wrote the film) stars as an aging actress living on the beach in California. There is a telling scene in which Adams’ character Marie is speaking with her agent, finding it more and more difficult to land roles. Just as you’re wondering how autobiographical this film actually is for Adams, she asks her agent about the possibility of an independent movie that pays next to nothing. I don’t suppose I have to spell out the ironic parallels…

“Mud” Movie Review | Nashville Film Festival

Mud

A twisted love story set against the tapestry of rural Mississippi, Mud centers around a young boy, Ellis (Tye Sheridan, Tree of Life) who finds a man hidden out on an island. The man (played by Matthew McConaughey) identifies himself as Mud. We never hear Mud’s real name or any last name, but we do discover Mud is on the run, waiting for the love of his life, Juniper (played by Reese Witherspoon). Mud has a turbulent past, and with the arrival of his long-lost love comes inevitable trouble.

Despite McConaughey’s name (and pecs) being attached to the indie film and playing the title role, Sheridan takes on the heavier acting load, appearing in nearly every frame. Witherspoon, on the other hand, was in the film for a grand total of 12 minutes.
