Ashley Monroe joined by Miranda Lambert on stage.

On Wednesday, July 22nd, I had the pleasure of attending Ashley Monroe’s album preview show at The Basement East, an intimate venue in East Nashville.

As soon as I stepped into the room, I noticed it was filled with a who’s who of the music industry, everyone from booking agents, publishers, media to many artists out to hear Ashley Monroe perform her new material.  Everyone anxiously awaited Monroe to take the stage.

Ashley looked fabulous as she took the stage adorned in a cream lace dress with crystal platform heels backed by her band in black suits with ties. Very classy! I loved the whole feel of the stage and presentation; kind of a throwback with even an upright bass rather than electric.

Many friends joined Ashley on stage to sing that night, including her producer, Vince Gill, Striking Matches and Jessi Alexander.   However, the most notable and the one who got the most attention was Miranda Lambert, who appeared at the very end and was a surprise to Ashley herself.  Since the divorce announcement from Blake Shelton, this was the first time that Miranda has appeared in public.  Looking beautiful herself in a short black dress that she joked was “from Target” with cowboy boots, she came out to support her close friend.  I’m sure it couldn’t have been easy for her, but it was a really sweet moment as she clearly made a big effort to support her friend.

I loved every minute of this show from the first song to the encore when Miranda joined her.  Upon leaving, we were given a copy of the new album just released this past Friday entitled ‘The Blade’.

As far as the album goes, I think this is one that will appeal especially to fans of a more traditional country sound.  Monroe’s vocals are flawless on this release.  The lyrics are thoughtful and poignant.  Quality production with a sound that is reminiscent of Vince Gill’s earlier work.  There is much to love about this album.  I found it refreshing and authentic.  It actually hasn’t left my car’s CD player since I got it.  My favorite off the album is “On To Something Good”, the mid-tempo feel good song of the album about moving on from a bad relationship towards a better life.

Definitely a must-have for all country music lovers.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars.
